  1. That doesn't make any sense. You hate wasted possessions, but like John Salmons? Yes. Salmons doesn't have the same problem Gordon does. Gordon gets the ball, and then decides he's going to shoot it no matter what. Even if he's triple-teamed, he'll still throw up a terrible shot, totally off balance. Every once in awhile he makes them, and then it looks like he's good, but he's just not playing smart. Nothing about Salmons' game jumps out at me the way it does with Gordon's. Couldn't agree more. He can pour it in, but he's very one dimensional. It was often infuriating to watch him get fixated on shooting like Soriano gets fixated on swinging. He can't create his own shot off the dribble to save his life, and still can't play D. If he could train himself to play like Reggie Miller and shoot off screens, he might be more valuable, but I don't think that's BG. And for this reason, he was not great with Rose. He kept trying to create off the dribble, which negated much or Rose's strength which is driving to the basket and creating. After hearing what the Bulls publicly said about Gordon, I was worried they might overpay for him, so this is somewhat of a relief. I don't think the Bulls could be a championship team with Gordon as a go-to guy, and with his game, he can't really be a role player. I'd much rather they keep Hinrich than Gordon, although I wouldn't be against trading Hinrich if a good deal came along.
  2. They actally won? Well, that's what happens when you score 2 runs/game.
  3. LA County: 10M Orange County: 3M San Bernardino County: 2M Riverside County: 2M Ventura County: .8M that's around 18M in the LA Metro area NY Metro has around 18.7M Maybe everything is a small market compared to NY. But having lived in NY, Chicago and California, Chicago is the biggest sports town. The Cubs have a huge fan base, arguably the most popular franchise in the city. It's true that the Cubs have been mismanaged in the past and that led to bad teams. But the fact is that the Tribune has been bad for the team. As Cub fans, we have all been putting money in the pockets of the Tribune for years. It's really telling how the sale has been hung up by this. In the past 2-3 years, the Cubs have actually started spending money. And even that's with the bad TV and radio deals. The Yankees own their own media outlet and have money to burn. The Cubs have been owned by one. Enough said. The Tribune has been essentially money laundering for all these years. If we had decent owners in the past 20 years, we might have a WS by now. Personally, I definitely feel ripped off.
  4. The TV and radio revenue seems to be a key sticking point. What a surprise. Proof that it'll be good for the Cubs to be rid of the Tribune company. What is a surprise- even with the disclosure of financials, this only surfaces now? That the Cubs were not getting fair market value from WGN? All those years the Tribune claimed that the Chicago was a small market compared to NY and Boston. No, I don't think so. NY and Boston teams just weren't getting fleeced in their TV and radio deals. Screw the Trib. Good riddance. The sooner the better.
  5. Just call the game! If the Pirates somehow come back and win, the Cubs aren't winning again this year.
  6. This is just a few years after she reportedly almost died in child birth, right? I'm just wondering who will be the first blogger to joke about Phil being the one with breast cancer. I think (hope) they'll at least wait until she's ok. Very sad news. Hits home for me because my wife and I are around the same age as Phil and Amy. Hopefully, things work out for them.
  7. It seems to me like Best Ball makes more sense on a Par 3 course than Scramble. I guess a lot of people won't get to hole out with best ball, but most every will hit at least 2-3 shots per hole. To me, a best ball tournament makes more sense on a par 3 in terms of scoring. The field would be more separated. Birdies would be more rare, most of the scores should be around par on a given hole. In a scramble, even 4 decent players should birdie most holes, especially on easy greens. 1/4 will put it within 10 feet a good percentage of the time, and then 1/4 will drain a 10 footer especially if they know the line and speed after putt #1. When I've played in scrambles, it often becomes a test of who doesn't screw up and not par. On an easy par 3 course, its amplified even more because many average to poor golfers tend to be more competitive on short holes than longer ones (my wife, a relative beginner, pars more par 3s than 4s or 5s). That's why I don't like the scramble idea. edit- oh, tourney happened. I guess if 11 under was the winning score, then there were more pars than I would have predicted.
  8. The problem for me on 12 wasn't that he went for the center of the green, it was club selection. He went with a 9 iron that he had to smash to get it there. He should have gone with less power on more club. The start of that round is what it was. But the tournament is won and lost at the end of the round on Sunday. And nobody went after it. I just would like to see the Champion be someone that played great golf at the end. I don't think any of them played great golf at the end. Phil didn't have to crush that 9 iron. He just needed to hit it clean. Phil's 9 iron goes as far as most other people's 8 iron. If he hits an 8 iron there, he's off the back side of the green and in an impossible position to try to get it close to the pin. Phil was only a couple of feet from landing where everyone else in the tournament landed. Phil didn't choke. However, he did play his typical golf. He'll wow you with one shot, and then make you scratch your head on the next one. It's worked for him over the years, because he has a lot of tour victories on his resume, including majors. Agreed. Phil is no Tiger, but that doesn't mean he choked. Nobody on tour makes every 5 footer than matters, except Tiger. Phil kept hitting insane shots and shot a 30 on the front nine, kept sticking it close on the back. The single biggest thing Tiger has on everybody else on tour is his putting. He is the best putter of all time, particularly under pressure. He also has a lot of other great traits, especially his mental strength, but his putting sets him apart. A ton of great ballstrikers out there. If Phil, Vijay, Sergio, Perry putt like Tiger, they'd be nearly as good as him.
  9. I can say that I've never gotten a speeding ticket in all truth. It doesn't mean that I never exceed the speed limit. If you want, you can think that this is the only time he's used in 5 seasons. I'm more inclined to believe that he's been using for a while. If he's going to use now, with all the testing and media on a witch hunt for steroid users, then I can only imagine how much he was juicing in the 90's and early 2000's. Manny had everything to lose- his career is tainted forever, he's out $6 million and screwed over his team- and he still did it, damn well knowing that he would be tested. He must've thought he could get away with it, and probably did for a long time.
  10. Amazing. Possibly the play of the series.
  11. Someone needs to make a shot.
  12. I'll say it one last time. Derrick Rose.
  13. Vinny's strategy seems to be get it to your hottest player and let him create his shot.
  14. Have Rose going to the basket.
  15. Rose has to drive. Get to the basket.
  16. that wasn't a foul on Gordon?
  17. If the NBA had any balls they'd suspend him.
  18. He should've been booted. What a dirty player. Ridiculous.
  19. He's a dirty piece of s@#$. A good player though.
