I gotta think having a guy like Rickey Henderson on first base disrupts the pitcher. Sorry I don't have a stat to pull out that proves it. I know a pitcher is going to the throw a hitter more fastballs with a burner on first. [/i]
The major papers haven't reported the Cubs interest in Gonzo so it wouldn't suprize me if there's interest in Hidalgo that has flown under the radar as well.
How are Hidalgo's numbers the past two years when compared with Gonzalez'? Don't know. I don't advocate signing either one. Why do you want the Cubs to sign Hidalgo? Because there's little left to choose from and our outfield is terrible? And Hidalgo makes it better? Why not wait and see who will be available near the end of spring training? because these guys will cost us nothing right now , we have spring training to figure out if they can help the club or not.
If the Cubs can grab Craig Wilson from the Pirates for a package of Welly and Brownlie then I'm all for it but I could see the Pirates wanting Williams.
when has he shown up his teammates? :? there was one over-publicized incident against the Astros in June 2004: Z threw a tantrum on the mound when Todd Walker missed a play on the field. Walker called him out on it in the press after the game, which was a mistake: Dusty should have been settled that in the clubhouse, and besides that the Cubs won the game. Z apologized the next day and everyone put on a nice public face after that. The mistake was Z not apologizing to Walker at the end of the inning or after the game.

They value both of them highly but were willing to consider giving one of them up because Hendry believes Tejada ranks behind only two other players, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez. You can argue you never should trade young pitchers who can dominate, but Tejada forced Hendry to consider making an exception.
