  1. Any reports out of the Cub Convention how Williamson is feeling ? He got to air it out a little bit last year and get some innings under his belt. Any word on health or velocity?
  2. If a catcher gets a long term injury in the WBC his vaule will go up. I would replace Molina with Barrett in heartbeat of we could package him with others. Barrett, Hill,Wuertz, Welly for Abreu
  3. I love this signing . I think Williamson will be healthy this year and could turn out to be a steal 2 million.Hopefully he can be brought along slow with are solid pen this year. If Miller is healthy the Cubs will find a spot for him.
  4. Manny and Abreu are out there for the right price.
  5. Deal just got bigger http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/01/23/source_sox_agree_to_crisp_deal/ Andy Marte, Kelly Shoppach, Mota Crisp, Riske, Bard
  6. I don't think Welly or Nova is a good place to start. Welly really doesn't have any trade vaule he hasn't mad much sucess in the majors in any role. Nova looks like he could be a set up man closer somewhere down the road but it's hit or miss. The Phillies are looking at getting Rhodes who even at 36 is a solid left handed set up man and according to most reports another reliver in the package for the price of Micheals.
  7. Weaver better hurry up pitchers and catchers report soon. Prior Zambrano Wood Weaver Maddux
  8. If there aren't any bats out there to had , which there doesn't seem to be I have no problem offering Weaver a one year deal . He'll get you a ton of innings. He's still young enough where he might put it all together and turn the corner and give us 17 win season with his stuff. Prior Zambrano Weaver Maddux Rusch/Williams fighting it out in spring training for the final spot. Ohman Eyre Williamson Howry Wuertz/Nova Dempster I think Nova could start the year in Iowa this season or in the majors if Williamson doesn't look like the pitcher of old but like the guy we saw last year. Rusch/ Williams could be the long man because Im pretty sure the Cubs are going to carry 7 pitchers. They won't have to rush Wood back at all and give Guzman and Hill more time in the Minors. You can never have enough arms.
  9. rumors had this being part of a deal for the mets to get Zito.
  10. interesting that weaver might take a one year deal. If I where Hendry I would have to make a run at him. You can never have enough pitching. Weaver seems to remain healthy over his career and could finally put it together working with Rothschild and being at best a number 3 on this staff. If the Cubs are tanking around July he'll bring in some nice prospects at the deadline.
  11. I want one where are these going?
  12. Rotoworld is saying that Arroyo went against his agents wishes and gave boston a discount. They speculated that Boston gave him a gentlemans agreement not to be traded this year.
  13. Bostondirtdogs has a reports from WEEI with a scoop that the Red Sox have talked to the Reds about Griffey for a deal involing Arroyo.
  14. I have read reports that Sweeney was promised a lot of playing time at first base along with Lance Niekro almost on a platoon basis. I don't think he would have seen those same at-bats here with Derek Lee at first base. I think Hidalgo is a guy that thought he was going to get get better offers but now its getting closer to the dance and he still has no dates expect from the cross eyed chick.
  15. listened to espn radio the last in the car hadn't heard it reported.
  16. Gload was a Marlins Prospect , Jackson can't stay healthy, Kelton tanked at third might have been a fringe major leaguer had he stayed there or moved to second base. Kieschnick turned out to be a better pitched. Hinkse had brief sucess. Choi still might be was overated by many.
  17. That's really not an argument in favor of Hendry. Hill and Choi were tagged as utility and platoon players, respectively. Also, please factor in that the players that those 2 were benched for weren;t exactly all star producers. Yeah but they played well enough to get us to the playoffs. We spun Choi and Hill for the teams offensive cornerstones. Didn't Depo platoon Choi last year?
  18. What postion player have the Cubs had that didn't get a good enough shot that ended up producing for another club?
  19. I'm so wary of all of Hendry's potential moves at this point that I'd be happy if he just stood pat. CF-Pierre LF-Murton 1B-Lee 3B-Ramirez RF-Jones C-Barrett 2B-Walker SS-Cedeno P-Z P-Prior P-Williams P-Maddux P-Rusch/Wood RP-Howry RP-Eyre RP-Ohman RP-Novoa RP-Wuertz CL-Dempster B-Hairston B-Perez B-Blanco B-Mabry B-Patterson At this point, fine by me, even though we don't have a 5th hitter. Better that than deal Prior, or absolutely gut the farm system, though. If somehow Baltimore wants to deal Tejada for prospects, fine. Ditto with Dunn or Abreu, although I doubt it happens. Really, though, I just don't see any deal where we get another everyday player coming down the line, so I'd just as soon Hendry lose his cell phone for a couple months. Although, I do see Walker, Patterson and Wellemeyer being dealt. Probably just for prospects or a bench guy or two, though. are u betting against Williamson reboudning and making the club out of spring training? I had him pegged as one of top set up man behind Howry and Eyre. I think Nova or Wuertz gets dealt along Welly,Corey, and sadly Walker.
  20. Ronnie's bat did come out of nowhere last year everyone was bashing Hendry for putting him on the 40 man roster because slick fielding shortstops are a dime dozen while not protecting some of the arms.
  21. I think Lee could put up just as good a season next year with guys in front of him getting on-base and even more likely if Ramirez stays healthy behind him and the cubs are able to swing a deal for Floyd or Miggy.
  22. When you have injuries and control problems your stuff doesn't all come together he's a project just like Corey. Sometimes a pitchers "stuff" doesn't show up in numbers thats why teams use Scouts and not just use computers and charts.
  23. It might just be me, but "great clubhouse guys" don't demand a trade and publically knock the team they play for. Rolen wanted out of Philly I would call him a good clubhouse guy Schilling wanted out of Philly good clubhouse guy a few off the top of my head.
  24. Many scouts feel Meche has some of the best stuff in the American League, and all that he lacked was confidence. He seems to have regained his edge late in 2004 after returning from the minors. Some feel Meche has a chance to win 15-20 games and become the dominant arm on the Mariners' staff. He'll get that chance in 2005.
