  1. The one reason I will never buy another word Levine has to say even before this one was his report a couple years back that Hendry had a lunch scheduled with Vlad. Levine said it was just a token vist much like the one Thome had a few years back. When I pressed Levine on it weeks later after no one else reported this meeting he told me he never said it even though others on this board including myself heard his intial report.
  2. I don't understand blaming Rothschild Wood was getting hurt before him and will be after him. Did Rothschild teach Wood his mechanics? Do we know Rothschild hasn't spoken to Wood about changing them? I choose to blame Wood or just blame it on luck.
  3. Leadoff and CF was not the only problem. RF was as big a hole as CF last year. Pierre is a mediocre CF, Furcal is a 2nd tier SS, Giles is an outstanding RF. I don't want to hear about the "doesn't want to play here" BS. Players will play where they are offered money. You don't know if Giles wants to come here unless you try and convince him to come here. And if you're turned down early, don't just give up. That can't be your excuse not to go for the best. Furcal is a young playoff tested switch hitter, with speed, power, great range, a cannon arm and he's a second tier shortstop? Miggy Arod (3b) Micheal Young I mean I understand Furcal might be overpriced but 2nd tier? Goony we also don't know that Giles will sign with anyone anytime soon considering all the teams in the bidding.
  4. I wonder if the Cubs can expand this deal to include Matt Stairs who can back up lee and be the left hand bat off the bench.
  5. here's to hoping this means we keep Nomar at short and go after a big bat in right field and go grab AJ Burnett and Bob Howry if the rumored Todd Walker for Mcdougal is true get some bench help and call it an offseason.
  6. I work at Ohare aiport and asked him who he thinks the Cubs will have at shortstop next season. "hoping for Furcal his range and arm are a huge plus for are pitching staff" I asked what he thought of Nomar returning "Nomars injuries has really hurt his range and ability to play shortstop". Asked if he had to bet who would be playing right field . " I hope we can get a guy like Jacques Jones he runs really well, and can catch the ball " These are rough qoutes he was sort of in a hurry but I hope he's wrong about Jones.
  7. Looks like Furcal wants 50 million over 5 or 6 years according to his agent and he will play anywhere including center field. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2221393
  8. I am hoping the Cubs can get Lofton signed for 2 million . Could Patterson and Walker net us Livan Hernandez? Would we have enough money for Dotel or would we have to settle for a guy like Seanz.
  9. i hope hendry raps up this Furcal signing by the end of the weekend and can turn his attention to a big bat for the outfield, a new center fielder, getting AJ Burnett , and signing Dotel and Sanez.
  10. As vance stated Pierre and Furcal seems like a bit much. Others have stated what we really need is Bradley. He's a much better defender than Pierre. He's a more complete player. What the Cubs are going to pay for Pierre in talent and money it could be used better elsewhere. Furcal Bradley Lee Dunn Ramirez Barrett Murton Cedeno The money and players saved in getting Pierre could afford the Cubs a chance at getting Dunn, Giles, ect. Say the Cubs land Bradley on then make a move for Dunn . Sign Furcal, and still have the change left over to make a run at Burnett.
  11. weavers is a true sleeper I think he can still be a great starter somewhere down the road but I doubt in this free agent market with teams having money to spend he gets a one year deal.
  12. The reason I am thinking the payroll will be higher than the 105 million that has been tossed around is that Hendry knows that a subpar performance by this years team means his job, I still think he the Cubs brass trust but with the money there spending he can't miss the playoffs two years in a row. The Cubs are gonna see some new revenue from the two new rooftops and the new bleacher seats, parking garage and resturaunt. Ticket price increase again this year? It wouldn't suprize me to see the prices raised after the Cubs open the vaults a little bit this offseason.
  13. I don't understand why Hendry wants to trade Todd Walker a second baseman who gets on base, hits left handed, and does a decent job of knocking in runners. But he seems intent on it. If Hendry manages to get Furcal and Pierre wouldn't it make sense to go an RBI guy for second base. Pierre Furcal Lee Giles Ramirez Kent/Soranio/Walker Murton Barrett Kent is a Baker boy and on the market. I dislike Kent but he does bring a level of intensity. Soranio was on Hendrys radar at the deadline and could bring another big booper into this lineup and more speed to boot. Not enough money I'm gonna make a bold prediction the Cubs payroll for 2006 will be 115 million.
  14. How about Choi for Lee? Bobby Hill and others for Aram? Brendan Harris and others for Nomar and Murton? Even baseball America gets it wrong sometime guys. What was Juan Cruz's era last year just under 8.00? The Braves know there pitching and they dealt Cruz. I could be wrong but I thought he got caught up in age gate after 9/11.Besides the guy looks mid thirties not 28.
  15. Bruce any chance you can get Hendry to do a Q and A with us?
  16. My cyber money says that Murton is tired. I wish these games were on TV. With Murtons 4-4 today I bet your glad your betting with Cyber money
  17. If Ramirez was offered to the Cubs for Patterson, Williams, Hill, Walker, and picked up half of Ramirez contract would u do it? As good as Sizemore is Manny Ramirez is HOF that still produces so paying him less than you would have to pay Giles with the amount of holes the Cubs have would be worth it.
  18. The Cubs cannot trade Rusch w/o his permission until June and why in the wide, wide world of sports would Toronto take the Cubs trash for Vernon Wells? I think the Cubs can trade Rusch whenever they want since he never went to free agency although I agree that Jays would never do that trade.
  19. No way we get Sizemore for Walker . Reports out of Ohio had the Indians calling the Phillies and Boston looking for Thome or Ramirez, the Indians backed away because in order for either team to trade Thome or Ramirez while picking up some of the check they wanted Sizemore and prospects or Sizemore and Lee.
  20. The Cubs have enough cash for Furcal , Giles , Burnett and Lofton they have at least 40 million . The bullpen will need to come from trading some young arms.
  21. Re-sign nomar, sign Dotel, Sign Burnett, Sign Giles, trade for Bradley, Trade for Manny. I wish Hendry would follow my MVP baseball moves.
  22. wow looks like everyone can put the pitch forks away now that Glendon has been promised nothing and could still be bumped out of the way for Burnett or Millwood.
  23. Maybe go after a CF (Bradley/Cameron) with those extra starting arms we have, but I agree.. LF - Murton CF - Patterson (Bradley? ) RF - Giles 1B - Lee 2B - Walker SS - Furcal 3B - ARam C - Barrett To me, that lineup looks good enough to compete for the division. Amazing how much of a difference 2 signings would make. I think with Giles and Furcal, we could afford to let Patterson try one more time in CF. The line-up could be: Furcal SS Walker 2b Lee 1b Giles RF Ramirez 3b Patterson CF Murton LF Barrett C I think that line-up could conceivably be a top 3-4 offense. We could afford to let Patterson try again in center field but I would rather not chance it. Go and Get Bradley the Dodgers are in dump mode. Forget Furcal and get Nomar on the cheap. Walker Bradley Lee Giles Ramirez Nomar Barrett Murton man I wish the Cubs where the Yankee's and could replace Murton with Dunn, Manny, Floyd, Matsui.
  24. It depends on what Hendry decides to do with the bullpen, with the rotation, the bench, and his current players. What if he extends Lee? How much will he set aside if Aramis opts out or if we need to swing a deadline deal? There should be enough to spend on both, but only if Hendry properly prioritizes the needs on the team. The Rusch contract may be proof that he still will overpay for bench/backup players that aren't worth it. assuming there's really one bullpen spot left up for grabs , possibly a rotation spot, there should be plenty left both for Giles and Furcal if the Cubs payroll is 105 million but I think it will be higher with the new revenue streams the Cubs are bringing in.
