    honestly this might be the best the Cubs have had in years. The only thing the bench lacks is right handed power. Mabry is a fine left handed power bat off the bench and can play four postions. Nefi is a Gold Glover caliber fielder that can play three postions. Jerry Hairston can all over the diamond and get on base. Pagean has a load of talent . Bynum can play everywhere and run the hell out of the ball. On MLB radio they had some scouts on that where raving about the talent that both Bynum and Pagean have. Blanco is fine defensive catcher with some pop. Remember guys this isn't playstation your bench is a place for role players.

    I didn't know this kid had this kind of talent. I've read from other publicatiosn comparing him to Beltran also. It seems like a steal with what Hendry paid for him.

    I highly doubt Nova will break with the big league club . If the Cubs do bring him along it will be a waste he lost a of weight and hasn't pitched all spring. They should let him get his strength back at extended spring trainging or Iowa. Ohman Eyre Howry Wuertz Dempster Williamson I think Williamson is healthy and Wuertz will be fine.

    If Z is showing up his teamates thats pathetic. Zambrano is still a machine and a great pitcher .Showing up an umpire or opposing player is one thing but when your doing it to your teammates there's still a lot of work to done and at 24 he's got plenty of time.

    Todays Tribune has a tidbit with about Zambrano kicking dirt and making gestures on the mound after a couple plays didn't go his way. Baker talked to Zambrano after the game in a "long session". Baker is worried that Zambranos behavior can be "destructive" in Zambranos relationships with his teamates. I keep hearing Zambrano talk about being a Bull and a leader but he continues to do this even during Spring training can we ever expect Zambrano to take that next step and keep his emotions in check this season.

    I was hoping the Bears where going to add another big time defensive player if we couldn't get another WR threat but this offseason is looking more and like the Cubs offseason.

    i'm pretty sure that Prior stopped working with Tom House this offseason. Sadly I'm not sure that was such a good idea.

    I mentioned this in a pervious thread hoping Barrett would do this. With Prior and Woods health it's okay to dream.Also Barretts journal has been a great read throughout the classic.

    He didn't say they didn't get peak value, he said he wasn't traded "at his peak value". And let's not forget that Lee was an average first baseman when the Cubs got him. Nobody else was going after him because teams that could afford him either had first baseman or wanted better first baseman. DLee circa 2005 was nothing like DLee the rest of his career. Sorry but your wrong on that Goony the Cubs didn't get Dlee because no one else wanted him. DLee was dealt to the Orioles but they couldn't get a contract worked out . Hendry stepped in and got a deal done. Granted no saw Dlee season coming last year but everyone knew that Dlee was a young gold glove first baseman , runs well, and was playing in a pitchers park. Last year season from DLee was an MVP type year everyone around baseball knew DLee had all star potential and was after him before the Cubs got him.

    I really really hope the Chicago media takes the Cubs organaztion to task for not being forth coming with information this has gotten out of hand. Does this hurt Jim Hendrys ability to trade with other teams did he tell the Orioles Prior had lingering injury problems? I think not.

    How come we couldn't ever get decent major leaguers who could consistantly hit .300 for minor league pitching when that was all we had to offer a few years ago? Too reluctant to trade the pitching. Now most of that pitching has been injured and/or didn't pan out. I blame the scouting dept who hasn't been able to help Hendry recognize when to make a trade or not. The Cubs haven't traded a minor leaguer at their peak value yet. Sanchez? Beltran? Choi? Bobby Hill too... Just because the Cubs got good return for those guys doesn't mean they were traded at their peak value. Choi was coming off an injury he never seemed to recover from. Hill struggled in the spring and was mediocre in the minors before he was traded. Sanchez had thrown horribly in the spring and his control was fading even more so than before. Jones was injured at the time he was traded. I'll give them Beltran. He was at his peak value having some ML success. Brendan Harris could go either way as he didn't get a chance in the majors to show what he could do, nor did he completely tank in the minors. I never understood the argument that the Cubs fail to trade there players at peak vaule. If they did trade them at peak vaule then the argument would be that the Cubs don't vaule there young talent or give them enough of a shot. The Cubs have a pretty good return on the guys they have traded lately.

    trading your third best hitter for a backup center fielder? Grissom could fill that role. Greenberg might warrant a shot. There was plenty of guys on the scrap heap to pick up this offseason to make this trade now would be terrible. I don't want Walker going to the Orioles unless it brings up back some quality prospects or part of a package to get Miggy.

    I think the Cubs think Marshall might be ready to suceed at a higher level in the majors sooner than Hill will reach his. Right now Hill with that Curve and a fastball in the low 90's could be very effective out of then pen even if he doesn't add a third pitch his control will play a lot more important to his sucess.

    In tommorrow Trib Phil Rogers mentions that Tony Graffinio being shopped has hurt the trade vaule of Todd Walker and Jerry Hairston Jr and the best deal they could get might be if they picked up the salary and shipped either to Flordia. Jerry Hairston Jr might be an option for them at second and center field.

    I don't see Hendry being let go, I don't think Dusty wants to stay in Chicago either way.

    everyone's favorite site Mlbtraderumors has some info about the Cards kicking the tires on Cabrera. Pujols/Cabrera talk about a foundation for years to come. Mentions the Cubs begging to get in on the action for Cabrera. Site also mentions that he got report yesterday from an emailer about a Soranio report on the score that the Cubs were still kicking the tires.

    The fact that Luis is only 24 makes me thing he still has a chance to nice utility role for the big league club.

    wow he's third in the league in hits the last few year behind Pujols and Ichiro. Thats some nice company.

    Sam Madison is a free agent and the kind of guy that could cover Steve Smith.

    His biggest goal this season is to win a gold glove doesn't think it's beyond him. Says the White Sox have put a sense of pressure for them to win. Doesn't want the White Sox to steal a younger generation of fans . He wants to be that team that everyone roots for.
