I'm not sure how it can be any worse. I mean there really doesn't seem to be any end in sight for this and it's likely they will come back from the break and continue the absolute terrible pitching. I guess if your searching for a bright spot at least we scored some runs tonight? We could not be in first place. We could have a tiny lead. We could have had a rash of long term injuries to key players. It shouldn't take a slide rule to figure out how things could be worse. -

He's not Barry Bonds. Especially this year. It is generally a poor idea to put hitters on base on purpose. Yeah, pitching to him wasn't the problem there, it was Warren missing by half a foot on the 1-2 pitch.

Most of these guys were due to regress at some point, but all the pitchers regressing at the same time is just inexplicable.

are you for serious? Latroy Hawkins was acquired to be the closer. I'm pretty sure Hawkins was acquired to set up Joe Borowski. He only became the closer when Borowski was injured.

I don't mind him, but he is hammered and babbling nonsense It's like that drunk person who thinks that they are being hilarious and won't shut up, but in reality are just being annoying as horsefeathers.

This series has been the baseball equivalent of rolling a string of natural 1's in D&D. No idea what this means, but I'm going to bet that rolling a string of natural 1's really sucks. Basically, it's rolling a 1 on a 20 sided die. So even if your character is an ultimate badass, you will fail spectacularly at whatever you are trying to do. Rolling a series of them is just inexplicable, like the performance of the pitching staff in this series. I haven't played D&D in twenty years or so, but that's what I recall, anyway.

I'm continuing to watch this debacle in hopes of seeing a consolation dong or five, but these guys are taking such horsefeathers at bats that I'm thinking this will be a total waste of time.

I'm wondering the same thing. The Mets aren't THAT good, that they'd just destroy our pitching like this, are they? Are we tipping pitches? Getting squeezed with the zone? All I can attribute this to is it being a confluence of unfortunate circumstances. The Mets' offense is nowhere near this good, the Cubs' pitching is nowhere near this bad (well, the bullpen might be), and the Mets' pitching is pretty good. Definitely a heavy dash of babip today, too (and on that go ahead hit last night, ffs). Pretty much just a horsefeathers sandwich.

The team seems to have been doing a lot less of that recently, too. Could just be my inner meatball clouding my perception, though.

i think it's the 2 months of mediocrity and the realization that we don't have a superteam I never really bought full into that. Our SP, while really good, aren't as good as they have been. The team will be fine. The bullpen, however, is going to need attention.
