    He's had it for a while, just not from us. If he's going to be batting with runners on a lot, those runners are going to have be sent much more often. The frequency with which he hits hard grounders almost demands it.

    He has barely seen 3 of them pitch. His lack of confidence is more from Edwards, Concepcion and Patton not being in the majors that long rather than him actually throwing them out there to see them struggle. Obviously, but that's part of the problem. We need more known, stable quantities in the bullpen, especially with Grimm being terrible.

    I blame the bullpen. Joe probably pulls Lackey earlier if he has any confidence in middle relief. This stretch is largely an aberration, but the bullpen needs to be addressed.

    No, but the bullpen is a bunch of question marks right now. As the rotation regresses, it's going to become more and more of an issue.

    Seems like the Cards are going to stick with Rosenthal as the closer, which is great news for their opponents. Matheny really is an idiot.

    I'm still irritated we couldn't take advantage of Rosenthal being hot garbage.

    Took a pitch off the shin. Stayed in to run the bases, so I doubt it's serious.

    Isn't that 3 of the last four games in which the Cubs lost but had the bases loaded in the ninth? Or am I crazy (I didn't actually see Tuesday night's game)?

    Stanton has been tepid horsefeathers for most of the year. That said, I would have put him on with first base open and a 3-0 count.

    I'm not sure where I'd find team pitches/PA splits, but anecdotally I feel like the team hasn't maintained quite the same level of plate discipline over the past few weeks that they showed during the first couple months, at least consistently. I know the the team hasn't walked at the same rate over the past month or so. I could be off base about the overall discipline, but it sure feels like it has played a role in the relatively inconsistent offense of late.
