  1. I'd bet the farm that if they threw through, Villar comes home.
  2. Walks generally piss me off, but walking Lucroy wouldn't bother me.
  3. Well, except in that glut of blowouts we've had so far.
  4. haha, I thought there was no way Wood gets out of that.
  5. Wood throwing his mediocre FB more than I'd like. But that works. ...and now comes the feeble hit
  6. A little late to the party here, but I'm not sure how there can be a discussion of an all-hate team with no mention of A.J. Pierzynski. That hate will never die.
  7. This is a bit like beating a dead horse (and it isn't likely to change, astoundingly) but Diaz is batting eighth again tonight. He has an OPS at least .150 higher than any other qualified player on the team, and at least .350 higher than both of the players directly in front of him. Eventually he's going to cool off, and much potential production will have been flushed by Matheny.
  8. To be fair, that homer was a total wind job. The walks, however, piss me off.
  9. That kind of explains the "last calendar year" bit. When he's healthy he hits. He's 36 and was slumping pretty hard for a month plus prior to the injury last year. Again, he's not a .700 OPS guy yet, but incredulity at the idea that he isn't considered an offensive machine isn't really well founded. Yeah, he is aging and before long he's going to stop hitting, regardless of his health. But the point that I was trying to make was that sliding him down and a guy like Diaz up until he started hitting would have been more prudent, imo. Even if a struggling player has a proven record, that doesn't mean you have to let them figure it out in a vital spot in the order. A player's spot on the lineup card doesn't have to be fixed, regardless of their history.
  10. In Matheny's years as manager he's benefited tremendously from the groundwork laid before him, but he is an awful on field manager. His apparent obstinance in the face of common sense is Dusty-esque. I thoroughly enjoyed him repeatedly going to lefties to face Rizzo in the playoffs last year in the face of every statistical indicator that it was a stupid idea. From what I have seen, he certainly seems to be one of those who are almost OCD about doing things a certain way regardless any other factors. Like the Diaz thing; he's decided he belongs at the bottom of the lineup, and he's sticking to it (and probably costing the Cards wins). Or batting Holliday in the middle of the lineup even though he has been bad all season to this point. It's like Dusty, seemingly unaware that you can move players around the lineup based on their performance, and that winning is more important than "disrespecting" players
  11. i have no idea what you're referencing Kristin Cavallari?

  13. Or even Wilson Ramos (who has been hitting well), since Dusty is apparently locked in to not bunching up LH hitters.
  14. The sound it made was quite satisfying, too.
