  1. I really, really detest cold weather Wrigley. Even when the Cubs win there's an air of frigid, offense suppressing misery to the games. The wind has deprived us of many, many dongs thus far in 2016.
  2. Apparently the plaintiff is claiming that Martinez knowingly gave her multiple STDs, which in Florida constitutes battery.
  3. April baseball in the north sucks. There's nothing to be done for it, but it still blows.
  4. I loaded up the FSMW MLB.tv feed of the Cards/Nats game from last night, and the intro was something like "would you rather have a team with the best player (showing Harper), or a team of great players (showing gritty Card highlights)? This weekend it's glitz and glamour versus guts and grit!" That last part is pretty much verbatim. It was eye rollingly gross. It's no wonder many of their fans are so obnoxiously deluded when their media spoon feeds them the narrative.
  5. I'm pretty sure he was warming at the start of the half inning
  6. did he sing "take me to the ball game?" He did, and that's right when I hit the mute button.
  7. Or Tunsil's stash
  8. If you're gonna pinch hit with a pitcher, why not Wood?
  9. I'm totally with you. Coomer is not good, and while Pat is, I think he's a little overrated by some. Len and J.D. >>> Pat and Ron.
  10. no...it's his dumb doofus sounding stumbling bumbling delivery which is further exacerbated when he's doing pbp Yeah, he's just not good.
  11. Also, the Astros have been...not good. Pedestrian offense, ineffective pitching. Probably the most surprising development thus far in 2016.
  12. Yeah, this was very predictable. The Nats will play the way they should have been regardless, and Dusty will win acclaim for it, and probably the MoY. The man has a knack for finding himself is extremely favorable starting positions. It'll be interesting to see how he will botch things in the mid-long term, though.
  13. Yeah, we haven't had a difficult schedule. But aside from the Cubs and Pirates, they've played a very soft schedule this far. Plus they've played the Braves, who are probably the worst team in baseball. They have nothing to be complaining about.
  14. From GRB: Yeah, you're in for a looonngg haul, buddy.
  15. I've read a lot of Reds fans moaning about "all these bandwagoning Cubs fans" in GABP, as if Cubs fans haven't been coming there en masse since the place opened. What actually bothers them is that the Cubs fans stand out because place is 2/3 empty due to their own fans being fair weather chumps, and their team sucks.
  16. I think the "enough already" comment was a continuation of his rant about Cubs fans chanting "let's go Cubbies" during the top of the ninth, not in response to all the hits. He was clearly butthurt about the vociferousness of the Cubs fans in attendance. Either way it was a sad and petulant little tantrum.
  17. WTF is this? THAT is Skyline chili? Chili over spaghetti with cheese? And the chili itself is an abomination. It's an abominable component of a greater abomination. It's an affront to humanity.
  18. As painful as it will be, you have to let him go, assuming it's going to take a mega deal. It's too bad he's not a couple of years younger. That is unless the Rickettses decide to go full Dodgers with the payroll.
  19. The hitting hasn't even been all that good yet. The Cubs have scored runs because of their approach, but almost every everyday player outside of Fowler has underperformed. Once they all get tuned up, things will get even scarier for opponents.
  20. I think it was, and by game score it was. When you look at the run scoring environment then (and the team he was facing), it becomes even more impressive. If it weren't for Kevin Orie, it would be talked about even more. As for 'pitching styles", the most rare and effective is to miss lots of bats, taking all other variables out of the equation. On that day, Wood essentially turned a formidable lineup into spectators of his greatness. But as for tonight, Jake wasn't really even on his game and still got the no-no. Pretty impressive.
  21. I woke up after the game had ended, and fired up MLB.tv half expecting to see that we had been held to a run or two. I saw the final score was 16-0 and thought "well, this should be fun to skim through", and hopped from one offensive highlight to the next, making it nearly to the end without realizing Jake had thrown a no hitter. It wasn't until I switched to the Reds feed to listen to Brenneman's call of the final out that I discovered the full scope of tonight's domination. Needless to say, I went back and watched a lot more of the game.
  22. Yeah, coming into this series, I was prepared for the Cubs to lose two of three, given the pitching matchups. If this ends in a sweep, it will feel like a bonus for the Cubs, but it would have to be at least moderately demoralizing to the Cards. And really, the series has been already, since they seemed to have gained some confidence in their offense (which was a huge question coming in to the season and after the Pittsburgh series) whilst beating up on awful teams. That confidence has to have been shaken a tad by these last two games. The Cubs could be five up, and they haven't even started hitting yet.
  23. It looks to me like he has a slight underbite.
  24. ESPN seemingly has them as the #1 offense at the moment, which cannot stand. It won't stand. That offense is not good, and time will bear that out.
  25. Seriously. Do the Cubs have a bad scouting report on Hamilton or something?
