  1. It will be more fun when he gets traded for an underwhelming haul of prospects after this. The only way they'll be able to move him is if they eat a good chunk of that contract or take a mediocre return, so you may be right. Statements Votto has made seem to indicate that he actually thinks the Reds will be competitive in 2016, so that should be fun.
  2. Indeed they are (though the Brewers may be worse). To make things worse for Reds fans is that their FO has been fumbling the rebuild, so they're not gaining as much on the long term front as they should be.
  3. Yeah. I've seen Almora make some legitimately great plays, but that catch was definitely an Edmonds job.
  4. This is the problem with the Cards offense. They have so little power that it really takes a chain reaction to score runs. Liriano has opened the door wide a few times, and they just can't string enough together.
  5. Liriano struggling with command. A non-mediocre offense would have hung some runs on him by now.
  6. When he broke it on 2010, it was a fractured growth plate, and part of the bone came off. It happened when he tried to use the arm to brace himself on a diving catch. While the force involve in that injury was ostensibly greater than last night's, the position the arm was in was probably pretty similar in both injuries. Perhaps the bone there is permanently compromised to some degree.
  7. IIRC, it's the same elbow he'd previously broken as a prospect, and that he'd been having issues with all spring. Makes you wonder if it's going to be an issue that dogs him for his entire career.
  8. Again, he's not well known for his play, because he's not good. No, it's not an indictment if you don't know who he is, but it'd be mildly surprising if someone who has watched a lot of national baseball coverage over the past few years hadn't at least heard of him. He's made a name for himself with his personality. But someone hasn't heard of him, they've missed some gold, as his interviews are always amusing.
  9. Maybe I've just watched way too much MLB Network, but it seems to me that Kawasaki is fairly well known. Not for his play, of course, but he has developed a reputation as one of the best interviews in baseball over the past few years (and one of the best clubhouse presences).
  10. tbh, I hadn't read either of them for the reasons I mentioned. Having just read Gordo's, it is pretty benign.
  11. In contrast, there's this [expletive]. Trigger warning: Rick Morrisey http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/the-cubs-let-in-a-mime-say-a-silent-goodbye-to-the-world-series/ And Gordo: http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/djs-pimp-suits-and-mimes-oh-my-are-cubs-enlarging-the-target/ Morrisey is a hack, and I'm pretty sure Gordo has a giant hate boner for the franchise. That said, the tiny superstitious voice I've driven to the dark recesses of my mind screams "DOOM! JINX!" every time I read one of the fluff pieces.
  12. ....or the greatest choke.
  13. I think you have to fire him, that said we will probably lose JCL, AJ, Tejon Lucas, and Frankie's son when we fire him. Really awesome situation our program is in. Have to bring in a major major name if Groce goes. Or else it just gets worse. Based on his football hire, I would guess Whitman isn't going to settle for another mid-major guy.
  14. Maybe I missed his name, but Christopher Russo would be a finalist for me. He and Stephen A.
  15. That's exactly it. And the smart ones know that it was the historic outlier in run prevention they posted that is largely responsible, but they acted like Matheny was robbed of the MoY regardless. But they're obligated to feel that way, I suppose. If the Cards finish around .500 this year, they'll go right back to hating him. As for the Maddon hate, I think that was building all year, and the "we'll finish it" and the MoY just drew it all the way out. They'd have been thrilled if the Cards had fired Matheny and hired him, though they'd have to reconcile Joe's style with the stuffy pretentiousness the organization usually sports.
  16. I'm sure many Cardinals fans would agree. He hasn't been canonized yet, after all.
  17. I know the common sentiment is that the Williams commit (and the injuries) might have bought Groce another year, but I wonder if this rash of criminal behavior might lead to his ouster. Paul, Black, Tate and now Nunn? I know Groce isn't their babysitter, but it's getting ridiculous. It might cost a recruit or two, but I really wouldn't mind if Whitman cans Groce and goes big on another hire right now. Even if Groce gets another year, it just feels like a temporary stay.
  18. Choosing a 1B over a CF based on positional value, essentially.
  19. Not that I've seen, but guys looked way late on the FB.
  20. Ramirez strikes out the side in fairly impressive fashion.
  21. Heyward 3 RBI double.
  22. Is it just me, or is the MLB.tv feed being really wonky today?
  23. It's worth mentioning that in the 3/13 game, Candalario went 3/4 with a HR (nearly 4-4, had a line drive robbed) and Contreras had two more hits, including a double. They are having a nice spring.
  24. Well, it seems like Jarrod Parker's career is over. Unfortunate.
