I decided to take a siesta to cut time off the wait and woke up to this. Unfortunate to say the very least, but after I saw some of the stills of the collision, I was preparing for this outcome. Coming into the season people were asking where Soler and Baez would be getting their ABs. Now the answer to that question has been clarified. Certainly, Schwarber's approach is more advanced and this is probable a net loss in production, but if there was a position on the field where this loss could be absorbed, it was in LF. I didn't mean to imply in my earlier post that this loss wouldn't (won't, ugh) impact the bottom line at all, just that the team's depth will mitigate it to a fair degree. It sucks, but the offense will still be an engine of doom, and the Cubs will still win the division.
