  1. Stop moving the goalposts. Your initial complaint was that Taillon or Rea should have started today. Other than you're frustrated that they're losing, what does five years ago have to do with Shota Imanaga over those two today? I get it. You're upset. It's a bummer they're losing. But let's stay on the topic of the debate. The Padres are a bottom-10 team against LHP in almost any metric you can imagine. They're bottom-3rd for HR's. Shota's biggest issue has been the HR and the Padres just don't hit LHP or HR's. It was a fine decision.
  2. Well, it's October 1st. That's long gone. The Cubs would have had Justin Steele starting one of these games and Boyd the other but things happened. As well, the Cubs developed a roster that won 92 games. I have quibbles on the roster construction, but it's quibbles. I don't know what you wanted them to have realistically done at this stage. Imanaga was the correct call today.
  3. The Padres are, generally, really bad against LHP. The only two hitters you really have worry about are Machado and Tatis. Going with Imanaga second is the right call. I'll give you this: I think he should have yanked him at that PA, however. That's the mess up.
  4. Lineup construction does not matter. We literally have data from the last 20 years to prove it. As long as you generally have good hitters at the front of the lineup, whether Happ hits 3rd or 5th, it doesn't matter. It just doesn't. Also, you ignored the rest of that post. Should we tweet at the Guardians to bench Kwan because of 8 poor PA's? You are better than being an overreaction machine, Peanut. I know you. We can be emotional while also not throwing a fit because of 6 PA's. Here, I'll be emotional: Cousnel horsefeathered that inning up. If you're worried enough about Imanaga against Machado that you threw an opener, he should have brought in a RHP there.
  5. I don't think seeing a pitcher two days in a row matters. I do think throwing three-days in a row matters. Yes. Relievers generally get a day off after two on. They have a full season of innings. It will likely matter in some fashion.
  6. Lineup construction is a really dumb thing. No, I don't really care where he's hitting. Also, 6 PA's is less than 2 games. Steven Kwan has one hit for the Guardians in 8 PA's. Should they bench him? Spencer Torkelson has 1 hit in 2 games, Tigers should probably bench him. Machado doesn't have a single hit so far and he's hitting third. Should he be benched? Should he hit 7th? C'mon. Stop being an overreaction machine. Ian Happ has literally a career of hitting well. I wish he'd have hit better in his 6 PA's too. But everyone who strikes out people on here flip out like they've never watched a single baseball game. Chill out.
  7. The Padres are really going to have to extend their BP. They have some really good arms, but everyone of consequence except Suarez saw innings yesterday. We talked about the Padres seeing Kittredge yesterday. The Cubs will get that benefit for most of the rest of the series.
  8. So who plays RF then? Tucker the guy with a bum calf? Or Moises Ballesteros, the guy who's never played RF? It's not only a terrible take on the sense that the rookie is almost assuredly going to be just as over matched but you ruin your defense on a windy, terrible day on top of it. You are smarter than this. I know you are.
  9. Fascinating decision here. Do you let Pete strike out against Morejon and lose the glove on a windy day?
  10. Way to work out of it. Hope he can get you one or so more and then go to the pen. Today would be a good day for your favorite of Soroka/Civale/Rea to eat an inning or two if need be
  11. The one positive is that every single one of those good arms sans Suarez saw time yesterday. A little less rested. And even if they all go today, they'll be in a weird spot tomorrow where they'd almost all be on a third day in a row. Underrated aspect of yesterday was Schildt using his good arms. He can't simply rely on them. They'll either have to use less good arms today or tomorrow (if they hold on). At some point we'll get to the softer arms for a few innings.
  12. That and this time was his 1st time facing Tatis and Machado. We can assume the numbers will be worse the 2nd and the 3rd time, so this was a great time for him to see them a first time instead of a second.
  13. In PCA's defense, ESPN's K-Zone makes it seem like he's chasing more than he is.
  14. Unless they pull him in the 3rd, the Cubs are going to get a second look at him. His wOBA against the 2nd time through is the same as the 3rd time through. And mirrors most pitchers 3rd time through. They can pull him in the 4th. They'll still get through the hitters you want to see him a second time.
  15. Cease really struggles once teams have seen him once. First inning was a lot of really hard hit balls. wOBA against jumps almost .100 points once it's a 2nd viewing this year. Feel good that the Cubs will get to him, even if it's not the first two or so innings.
  16. Rea is a much worse pitcher than Kittredge. If we're worried about the Padres seeing BP players two-days-in-a-row in a three game set, then we were already screwed.
  17. The Cubs have hits of: 99mph, 101 mph and 99mph. Fans are reacting to really hard hit balls. Wind is killing things today.
