  1. He was in the Big 10. Most scouts thought he could at the least be a good left handed reliever if he could ever get his control under wraps, given that curveball. He's not going to be an ace if he reaches his ceiling (in all likelihood), but a #2/#3 is definitely not out of the question.
  2. Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson plz. My bad; I don't know those guys. Stats? I was also hoping we'd get some proven talent back for him, so I was not thinking of AA or AAA guys. They're the #2 and #3 prospects in the AZ system behind Stephen Drew. Quentin projects as a RF, Jackson as a LF/1B. Jackson is 23, Quentin is 22. Both project as unbelievable hitters, with Quentin being a prototypical LF and Jackson having some defensive issues. The numbers this season in AAA (PCL)... Jackson: 324 ABs, 115 H, 37 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR, 31/68 K/BB, 3 SB, 2 CS Totals (AVG/OBP/SLG): .355/.459/.556 Quentin: 325 ABs, 100 H, 19 2B, 2 3B, 19 HR, 45/53 K/BB, 8 SB, 0 CS Totals (AVG/OBP/SLG): .308/.425/.554 Quentin is more the total package, but Jackson's walk rates are simply off the charts. Both will likely be offensive forces for the Diamondbacks whenever they manage to open up space for them (Green and Gonzalez being the two guys blocking them).
  3. What is that third pitch that he throws? I was under the impression it was a change, but according to some of the people in the Q&A session with Hill, it was a cutter. We'll see come game time.
  4. Standard lineup given the past few days. I'm still royally annoyed that Burnitz is batting 4th and not Ramirez, but whatever.
  5. Hill as a prospect has always had a much higher ceiling than almost all of the pitching prospects in the Cubs' system. He had pretty much fully developed with regards to his body and mound presence and his fastball had pretty much topped out. Everyone knew that curveball was the filthiest pitch ni the system; it was just a matter of if he could ever control is properly. He also needed a third pitch, which has come along decently to my understanding. Last season, it seemed as if he had finally broken through to start the season, stringing together some good starts before fatigue and hurricanes cut him short down in Daytona. He just needed to make the right mechanical adjustment in order to consistently throw that curve for strikes and not make the backstop quiver in fear in the process. His ceiling is much better than Mitre and he'd give the Cubs a much-needed left handed starter for the foreseeable future if he comes through. A good start might also vault his trade value and help the Cubs acquire a much-needed bat in the OF. This move makes sense to me, imo. Mitre should be down in AAA starting, not rotting in the BP. But, when it comes to personal preference, Hill should get the nod over Mitre for this one.
  6. They lost last season when it counted the most while he was hurting.
  7. Mora is 33 I was under the impression he was in his late 20s. Hm, go figure. Nevertheless, given his offensive production and ability to play two positions the Cards have some degree of need at, given their health, this is not an acquisition I'd like to see them make.
  8. Considering Wood's current status, moving Jerome would not be in the Cubs' best interest right now. Mora would be a nice addition, however...
  9. Why would the Orioles trade one of their best young positional players like that? Are they seriously going to do this Mike Lowell deal and get a significant downgrade at 3B? Also, Mora can play the OF. Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh. I really do not want this deal to be true.
  10. Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson plz.

  12. I predict Bowden goes out and does something really stupid to keep them in the race.
  13. It could also be they were looking to get him more bullpen work for an upcoming callup.
  14. Injury? TRADED?!?!?!!!!      CALL PAUL SULLIVAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111 We'll see. Hopefully nothing serious.
  15. If by sellers you mean trading for equal or better talent with major league talent (i.e. Maddux for Teixiera on the better talent end), then yes, we should always be sellers. If you mean selling off big contracts and guys in the last year of their contracts off for prospects...then no, not when adding a good bullpen arm and an everyday LF would help this team compete for the WC.
  16. By the way, in that conversation, I censored it appropriately. :D
