  1. Burnett would definitely pick up where Wood left off. And heck, if we sign him to an extension, all the better. If not, oh well, next June we'll hopefully get a 1st rounder and a sandwich pick for him.

  3. It makes no sense to throw a guy out there who has labrum problems for bullpen duty so that he can shred his elbow and his shoulder while overthrowing everything. I mean, there's a ton of potential there that he could very well destroy his arm if it's overused. Wood should just throw the towel in, get his shoulder scoped, and find some one in the offseason to work on his mechanics with. A bullpen jaunt could be career suicide for Wood. A frayed labrum will only get worse with more wear and tear. I'm convinced this is posturing by Hendry. If he has Wood in the bullpen, it will make his need for relievers seem less than what it really is. If he came out and said Wood was being shut down for the season, some one like, say, Chuck Lamar might bump up the asking price for Baez to be traded to the Cubs. The same could potentially be said for starting pitching if it turns out that Wood might not be fully recovered from this thing until some time next season (as you remember, Matt Morris had plenty of issues last season despite getting the surgery). The timing of this injury could not have been worse for Hendry, imo. I predict that, following the deadline, Wood throws some side sessions, mysteriously feels really bad pain, and is shut down for the rest of the season to get surgery.
  4. That'll be a fun contract if his injury problems don't go away. Major ouch.
  5. Harvey went 3/4 with a double and 2 RBIs today. Also, Milb.com is not updating the box scores for some reason. I'll post all of the numbers whenever they post them.
  6. Anyone else think this might be posturing by JH so that teams don't try to ream him in attempting to acquire a SP or a reliever?
  7. The Reds are definitely skewed in their visions of what they want in return - but I don't think Dunn was ever in Hendry's radar. Kearns was always the man he wanted, or talked about. I'm still convinced Hendry's playing coy with that situation. He's never been one to make his intentions public, ya know?
  8. That wasn't a slide so much as a controlled crash.
  9. Jeromy with an even more impressive basket catch.
  10. It seems like everything SF hits, it manages to sneak past a defender. For the Cubs...not as much so.
  11. Every Cub game is always been a utterly bizarre game. Truth thou spake.
  12. Anyone else think that this has been an utterly bizarre game?
  13. What was the trivia Q? Who had the best porn moustache before Jeff Kent? I've always thought Raffy and Jose Valentin had underrated pornstaches.
  14. Please tell me this is sarcasm. Um, no. This team has underachieved all season, and by clinging to the hope that the Cubs are only 4.5 games out of the WC, we're giving up the opportunity to trade retreads like Remlinger, Blanco, Garciaparra, Walker, and Burnitz to a real contender, and rebuild our farm system. Mark it down. This team is not going to the postseason. And wishing like hell for it to happen won't make it so. You also got next week's powerball numbers, out of curiosity?
  15. He'll have a fun story to tell the kids in his old age.
  16. Hill tripped over third. Ouch. Diagnosis: Bruised ego
  17. A ball thrown at chest-level is not a strike, ump.
  18. Got into some trouble and got out of it. Nicely done. BREAKFAST CLUB!!!!
