    Aw, c'mon Mush--Fez is a total zero, and Nolasco and Pinto only look good because they pitched well while REPEATING AA. That's a big leap to get from AA success to useful major leaguer, as their failure in AAA in 2004 attests. None of these guys are anything other than marginal prospects. So, good trade! When the situation is dire, you need to overpay, OK, but what's done is done. We finally have a leadoff man. You are right--if Pierre performs in 2006 as he did in either 2001, 2003, or 2004, Cub fans are going to be very VERY happy. I'd say that Pinto's struggles at AAA were more concerning than Nolasco's struggles, especially considering Nolasco was described as "not ready" by most reports when he was initially called up to AAA. Sometimes guys need more patience than others. I'm going to wait and see on this trade in terms of the pitching prospect from the Marlins. If it's some one who could crack the Cubs' Top 10 prospects list or some one with a nice ceiling, that could make this deal more pallatable. Or, he could potentially be used in a second trade for a RF.

    I'm going to guess Washington. Bowden loves toolsy guys. Any confirmation on whether a pitching prospect is actually included or not?

    I wouldn't call those three highly-rated prospects...but I am of the mindset that the Cubs could do much better in trading those three prospects.

    Something tells me this post is going to lead directly to another ten pages of replies. I apologize, but it's a thought that I've been sitting on for a little while. I know Patterson has had some issues, but I truly believe it's because no one has let him settle into a specific role at the plate. I would be happy with that as an outfield. I guess that's just me though. I'm still of the mindset that Patterson could turn it around with another organization. I don't think he has much of a future with the Cubs, but that's just me.

    I think it's going to cost more to get Wilkerson or Bradley. I can tell you right now that Pinto and Nolasco are much better than Saarloos and Ramos. If those two A's prospects are all it takes to get this deal done, then I fail to see how Nolasco & Pinto wouldn't trump it.

    Pinto is the 2nd or 3rd best LHP in our system. Nolasco had a breakout year this past year, but IIRC doesn't project to be better than a #3-4 starter. Personally, I don't think that's the case any more. 1) Mark Pawelek 2) Rich Hill 3) Sean Marshall 4 is a tossup between Pinto and Veal. Nolasco's breakout year was last season in AA. He was bumped up to AAA before being ready and got knocked around accordingly. He had a pretty darn good year in AA this past season, though.

    If the A's are offering Zito for Bradley, what should Hendry offer? That was one rumor. The other and more prominent rumor was for Mario Ramos and Saarloos. IF we are giving up two pretty good prospects I would rather have Bradley. Saarloos is pretty good? Huh. News to me.

    I'll agree with Sosa and Cruz, but Farns is a wait & see guy with me. Scott Moore is some one worth keeping an eye on and Novoa could turn out to be halfway decent.

    The Braves also have insane depth and talent at SS in their system. I'm not even kidding.

    Walker, Hawkins, Maddux, and Nomar are pretty much it as far as I can tell. You could also toss Williamson and Dempster on that list if you want to.

    1. Takes value to get value. 2. Aramis helps even out the money--leaving plenty of cash for Hendry to still get the starting pitcher he covets. It depends on whether or not the Phillies are looking to save money. Considering that Blalock was locked up to a fairly cheap deal and could still manage a good degree of production in that extremely hitter-friendly park, I think the Phillies would most likely have interest in him. Also, A-Ram's second year opt-out might be problematic if the Phillies have interest in retaining Ramirez.

    Blalock's home/road splits scare me. Why not just flip Blalock to the Phillies instead of A-Ram?
