  2. Marshall, Cedeno, and Dempster for Tejada. So...why exactly would Baltimore do that?
  3. Gotta love random references to the 1936 Olympics.
  4. Not a bad line in his debut. 8)
  5. It might just be that the Cubs trying to rebuild his arm strength since he's been so plagued with injuries during his relatively short career. Granted, he might have an easier path to the majors as a reliever, but I wouldn't quite head to this conclusion yet. If he's still relieving by next year, then things will be a little bit more clear on that front.

  7. Maybe it's time to make Guzman a closer candidate. i say we just take him out back and shoot him. Nah, we should do that with Hill instead. :P
  8. Mark Reed is probably the guy you want out of that list. He's probably the best hitting prospect down there, which is a major plus considering his D at catcher. He needs to work on his patience a bit, but he projects to hit for decent power and already has established himself as a potential .300+ AVG guy, much like his brother Jeremy. Out of everyone else on Nate's list, it gets a bit more questionable. Carter has a powerful bat with surprisingly good patience so far, but his average needs work. Johnston is the most intriguing guy since he has one of the best IsoDs in the system (.109), but needs to work on upping his average to a respectable level (although, he's holding his own for a 19 year old in the MWL). Valdez makes me leery because of his lack of walks, but he's shown himself to be a good high contact guy. Norwood needs to get moved up at some point, but again, the lack of walks make me curious. As for Reynolds, he might not hit enough to be an everyday 3B. I'd agree with Nate's rankings. As things stand right now, Reed has the best chance to come up and be a good everyday guy. In terms of ceilings as hitters, Carter's is the best due to his good power.
  9. Ligtenberg is 35 years old and has sucked in his last two years. He's nothing special.
  10. Nah, he'd likely end up lumped in the Smith/Martin/Bettis group of guys who were consistent and healthy for a long period of time. If I need four yards to get a first down, give me Payton or Brown. If I need a guy who's a threat to score every time he touches the ball, give me Barry or Bo. If I need a guy to catch a pass out of the backfield, give me Brown, Faulk, or Payton. If I need a guy to block, give me Payton. If I need to run a gadget play, give me Payton or Tomlinson.
  11. My post was during the game! :P Murton blew it in the OF on the first double, but Marmol will be lucky if he goes four innings with the way he's been pitching.
  12. Zambrano has three kids?! If he has daughters, Lord help the men who date them.
  13. I think this team at its core is mediocre, but not atrocious. With good coaching, this team could be an 85 win team (assuming health...which is problematic). However, I think the pitching has a much better chance of being good than the offense. I think some one from the group of Marmol/Hill/Marshall/Guzman/Ryu will step up and be a dependable and effective starter next season. It could be possible that another one of them becomes average or so, but it's hard to play those odds. Prior could bounce back or only end up being useful for half a season. The bullpen is actually pretty good when used correctly. Ergo, I'd opt for the big bat.
  14. Veal could have been a DFE if he had gone back to Pima.
  15. Thanks a ton DJaxx! That was a fun read!!
  16. I wouldn't have had Jones against a lefty starting to begin with.
  17. The Pantsless Mascots QB - Tom Brady WR - Anquan Boldin WR - Chad Johnson RB - Kevin Jones RB - Cedric "The Entertainer" Benson WR/RB - Thomas Jones TE - Jason Witten K D Bench - RB LenDale White Bench - QB Byron Leftwich Bench - WR Matt Jones Bench - RB TJ Duckett
  18. Mesa's currently losing (again, sadly) 5-2 in the 8th. Drew Rundle got the start in CF and is currently 0/2, with a walk and a K.
  19. I think this will be a fun topic of conversation in a few years if Tomlinson can stay healthy. He's the one RB I've seen since Payton retired who actually reminds me of Walter, right down to his passing TDs, great blocking, and excellent ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He's 27 and entering his prime years. If SD gets a semi-competent offense in order, we could be slipping Tomlinson's name into this discussion in ten years. It's a shame most people only know him from highlights and fantasy football due to people ignoring the west coast; the guy is hands down the best RB in the NFL today.
  20. I think the inherent comedy value of this thread will keep it chugging along. Scott, I have to admire your optimism. If this team were sitting at 20 games under .500 with 20 games left in the season, you'd be stating that this team will rattle off 20 wins and get back to .500. That's looking on the bright side of life. If you're this peppy and hopeful in real life, more power to you. Nevertheless, this is one of the worst Cubs teams I've seen in my lifetime. It'll take a lot of changes for them to turn it around. The problem is, they've dug themselves into a really deep hole. As far as I can tell, Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker think the best way to get out of it is to dig their way out. That's a bad thing.
  21. You'll probably see Pina and Muldowney/Pawelek starting the two games Saturday and Sunday. Anything you can report on Pawelek and Muldowney would be most welcome; especially Pawelek and Pina. My knowledge is really limited on Pina, so anything you can report on his build, stuff, and so on would be most welcome. In terms of hitters, there are a number of guys who could be interesting to watch. Controversial draft pick OF Tyler Colvin will be present. I'd like to see what you think about his approach at the plate, speed, routes to flyballs, etc. SS Sammy Baez was rated as the best defensive SS in the AZL by BA last season; his bat has been coming around slowly as he fills out. I know 1B Russ Canzler has great power, but I'm curious as to his speed/athleticism/defense. RF Alfred Joseph has been making an impact with his bat and his arm. OF DJ Lewis is a favorite on the board. Yakima is the Diamondbacks affiliate. OF Cyle Hankerd was their second third rounder in 2006 and is currently one of the better hitters in the NWL. Cesar Valdez and Shane Dove appear to be their two best pitchers.
  22. Now if only we can find that post he made... Maybe Huh? made it as his own screen name...
