  1. Dear Lord.
  2. Garrett looks like he's busy working on his resume on the sidelines.
  3. I buy the first part completely. But defensively? Really? He's always taken bad reads on balls and taken questionable routes, but he was able to make up for it with his speed and arm. However, for whatever reason, the last two years have been unkind to him. His UZR was bad in 2007 and 2008 (-17.4 and -9.7), his FP and Range Factor both dropped significantly. Maybe Coors has hurt him, but something more might be going on. He had good years in 2005 and 2006, but I really think the guy is overrated.
  4. We're looking at 20 in the draft. If any of the following teams win, the Bears should move down: Arizona Philadelphia Washington NY Jets Denver
  5. To me, the Bears could use a WR pretty badly. Part of the problem with Forte and the TEs being the primary receiving targets is that teams can easily stack the short and middle fields without having to worry about the WRs. Hester is eh. Lloyd is inconsistent. Davis is below average. Booker is trash. Bennett is an unknown. This WR corps has to be one of the five worst in the NFL. The offense wasn't all that good this year. I'm particularly worried about the offense regressing next season, to be frank. Forte shouldered an enormous load and could use some help next season. Orton needs a reliable WR who can run routes and not drop everything thrown his way. Keeping this offense as is will only result in this team getting worse next season.
  6. Nah, let him continue this. I'd prefer to see both retire as Reds!
  7. I can't wait to read the press clipping with Dusty trumpeting the fact that he finally has a legitimate leadoff hitter. Taveras is atrocious offensively and defensively. This will be fun.
  8. McCovey Chronicles' Take It's honestly not a bad move on the Giants' part. Their rotation will be really good, especially in that park, and their other options for offensive upgrades were lacking. Now they don't have to rush their name pitching prospects to the majors and they'll get decent production out of RJ. Plus, they don't have to forfeit a draft pick. If he flames out, oh well, it's a one year deal, no biggie.
  9. I like him, but I get the feeling the Bears will over-pay him and he'll have a subsequent dropoff with this team.
  10. I'm guessing Andre Johnson will have a big day.
  11. It's impressive how no one's been talking about Miami this season. Joey Porter is a freaking stud while providing the added bonus of being freaking crazy.
  12. yeah for some reason defense is suddenly the new hotness on here We need something else to argue about since we've pretty much beaten all of the offensive stats to death.
  13. Defensively, the comparison doesn't work. However, I was talking more along the lines of offense. Frankly, I always thought Francoeur was overrated from an offensive standpoint. I don't see him being a career .270 guy and I don't think he'll ever live up to the hype because of his atrocious plate discipline, despite how toolsy he is. Vitters has enough raw talent and ability to make the majors if he's healthy. However, if he doesn't learn to take more walks, he won't make the majors to much fanfare.
  14. Jump on a bandwagon and pretend you've been there all along? I hear the Red Sox are looking for fans.
  15. Samardzija over Vitters, much less no Vitters in the first place, is rather surprising.
  16. Currently: He doesn't strike out or walk a whole lot. He's displayed good power in a limited amount of time. While his defense was initially a concern, he's worked very hard on correcting his flaws and the current consensus is that he will stick at 3B. Everyone seems very high on his attitude and approach to the game. Down the Road: Two big things worry me. First, he has had some nagging injury issues. He's had problems with his hand that has caused him to miss time. The guy's not quite at "handle with care" status yet, but the early injuries are cause for concern. Second, while his K/BB suggests pretty good plate coverage, keep an eye on his plate discipline as he advances. If he's going up there with a hacker mentality, thinking he can foul off anything thrown his way, rather than take bad pitches, pitchers at more advanced levels will make him pay for it. Scouts seem to think he has a good idea of the strike zone, but it's hard to tell if they're a fan of his plate coverage or a fan of his eye for bad pitches. This guy comes to mind in the former regard. Here are his minor league numbers. So, what do I think? Ceiling: Aramis Ramirez Floor: Jeff Francoeur at 3B.
  17. We have to see how the free agent market shakes out and how the economy treats teams over the next year. Teams have shown a willingness to spend money so far on bigger names like Burnett and Sabathia, but we haven't seen how this market is going to treat lower level guys like Paul Byrd, Jon Garland, and Randy Wolf. Hell, considering the Mets' owner reportedly lost $300m, a 1 year deal worth $10m might not be all too bad for Marquis come next season.
  18. He can't be any worse than Glenallen Hill.
  19. I see Jim's latest "Copy the WS winner" approach involves getting a lot more left-handed hitters. Victorino, Rollins, Utley, and Howard all can bat left-handed, clearly that must be why the Phillies are so good!
  20. Marquis as a type A free agent would be a bad thing. There is no way you'd offer him arbitration. He'd likely take it and get $10 million +. I understand your overall point, though. I've gotten the impression that Marquis would likely have to be moved for the Cubs to add a major piece. Please explain how a SP, coming off of a season where he earns Type A status, accepts arbitration for a one year contract? I think it comes down to the Cubs not wanting to take the chance of him accepting arbitration and being on the hook for his salary. Which is what happened with Kerry Wood this year (I think K.W. would have accepted arbitration to stay with the Cubs at $10 million for 2009 - I know that he's a closer though). Our payroll for 2010 is one of the major sticking points to trading for Jake Peavy, and offering arbitration to Marquis when we would most likely be looking to move salary would not be a wise financial move. Plus, would we really want another year of Marquis? He'll be on the wrong side of 30 after next season and I have trouble seeing him maintaining his recent production.
  21. I don't think so, but you'll find a lot of people who will argue to the contrary.
  22. Word is Dunn doesn't want to make the move. A number of teams with interest in him as a 1B have been informed that he wants to stay in the OF, which has resulted in somewhat cooler interest in him.
  23. The target is for some time in the Spring, hopefully before the start of the regular season.
  24. He won't win it, but the Titans would be below .500 without Albert Haynesworth. I'd vote for him.
  25. Vlad Guerrero's father got around.
