  1. Cashner will probably be in the minors all season unless he puts up strong numbers in AA or AAA going into September. My guess is that the Cubs will start him out at Daytona in the warmer weather to work out his mechanics and give him quality time in the FSL's pitcher-friendly parks.
  2. No doubt about that. They'll pay what it takes to get a player they want, slot recommendations be damned. After the Gerrit Cole incident, I have to wonder with the Yankees.
  3. Right here, to be exact.
  4. Yeah, I am surprised they even won a game/got into the tournament. Being a Wisconsin resident and getting to see most of their games, this had to be one of their worst/least talented teams in 10+ years. They just are an awful offensive team and marginal defensive team. They don't have 1 guy who you could go to offensively when you needed a basket that you know they could get a good look/shot and have a good chance of making something happen. Their schedule helped a lot in terms of them getting in. I figured they were due for a 9 or 10 seed, so I was surprised to see them get a 12 seed. However, it made some amount of sense when the tournament officials explained that they did it to accommodate their rules for matchups and seedings. A lot of their recruits haven't panned out so well, but I think there's enough talent there to help them make a run next season. Their inconsistency has been their achilles heel, but I think the coaching staff is good enough to help the younger players get past that.
  5. I was kind of bummed to see Wisconsin go down, but Xavier was the better team. Wisconsin just got out-rebounded and couldn't keep up at the end.
  6. Oh, hell no. Cub game threads put the most raging manic depressives to shame. There are some classics in the archives. This is a personal favorite.
  7. Only if he missed another five or six go-rounds after that.
  8. Watching ACC basketball is like watching fat people have sex. 59-61 OT 59-62 55-72 Watching Big East basketball is like watching fat people have sex. 59-54 58-57 60-68 Watching Pac 10 basketball is like watching fat people have sex. 65-64 66-57 Geez. So you're saying watching college basketball is like watching fat people have sex? Also, what the hell have you people been doing watching fat people have sex?
  9. I was talking about this with my roommate today. It's probably my Big 10 homerism at play, but I have actually come to admire and even enjoy the Big 10 style of play over time. It's probably because its all I see, plus every single non-Big 10 person rips it nonstop, but I enjoy it. says the fat guy trying to have sex 7.5
  10. i got the ohio st game wrong, and i've never been so happy to get a game wrong. f*** ohio state and yay for northeast Catholic schools. It's hard to dislike Evan Turner, though. he wears an ohio st uniform, so it's really not. He went to St. Joseph's out in the suburbs of Chicago. I'm willing to cut the guy slack for the uniform he wears.

  12. This needs to be stated one more time. I think I woke up half the neighborhood when Hughes made the layup and got fouled. That was an intense game.
  13. Tough ending for Utah State.
  14. That was quite possibly one of the most ridiculous made three pointers I've seen.
  15. And awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Wesley goes.
  16. That was a thing of beauty by OK State!
  17. He's a daywalker, imo.
  18. The refs have not been very kind to Marquette in this half. I'll give Utah State credit for playing well, but there have been some ticky-tack calls and egregious no-calls in this half.
  19. It kind of figures that things decidedly improved in those games after I posted that. :-))
  20. Well, at least two of the games on now are interesting in terms of upset potential. Yeah, 9/8 is not really an upset, but whatever. In terms of game quality, Marquette/Utah State has been decidedly eh.
  21. That pretty much describes him. He won't hit for much power and will have to sustain good numbers BA-wise and OBP-wise if he wants any shot in the majors. He could make a decent 4th or 5th OF, but I don't see him becoming a starter down the line.
  22. That pretty much describes them to a T. They're a very hot and cold team, imo. As long as Blake Griffin doesn't somehow get decapitated with piano wire, I think Oklahoma should handle them.
  23. Purdue/Washington is going to be a war. That's the second round game I'm looking forward to the most right now.
  24. Digger Phelps now needs to take his pants to the dry cleaners.
