  1. Flaherty's peripherals tell me he'll be fine. The guy's hitting for a decent amount of power and is maintaining solid walk and strikeout numbers. Plus, he's managed not to be horrifically incompetent at SS like many of us were predicting him to be. Granted, I still think he'll have to be moved off of the position, but it seems like defense won't be much of a problem with him when he does. He's still in my Top 15 FWIW.
  2. Aw man, I was hoping to see Vitters one more time when the Chiefs came back to Peoria. :(
  3. Fuld's been bouncing around the organization for awhile and had a cup of coffee back in September 2007, when rosters expanded. His ceiling is a 4th OF on a decent team. I'm guessing this move was done to fill the hole Reed Johnson left when he went on the DL.
  4. Normally I would agree with you, but in this yr's class there isn't a sure-fire, you know for a fact, 100% guarantee superstar. Not even Griffin---the best player in the draft---is a player you know will be a superstar. So getting players who can contribute in certain roles in a draft very light in big time college players is prolly the ceiling for this draft. Yep. Outside of Griffin-Rubio-Harden, this was a really questionable draft at best. Expecting your team to pick a future starter this year outside the Top 5, much less outside the lottery, was just unrealistic. Yeah, I'm sure some of these guys will pan out, but this draft was just filled with long term projects and future bench players. If the Bulls got two guys who can effectively contribute from the bench in this draft, I won't complain about it. Yeah it's unrealistic to expect Jonny Flynn or Stephen Curry to be a future starter. Obviously the draft was weak but there are a good number of guys outside of the lottery (especially the top 5) who will be regular starters on bad teams in the next few years. 2000 was the worst draft in recent history and look at how many regular starter's came out of that draft. Jamal Crawford, Joel Pryzbilla, Turkoglu, Desmond Mason, Quentin Richardson, Jamaal Magloire, Morris Peterson, DeShawn Stevenson and Michael Redd have all started more than 300 games. That's 9 guys drafted 8 or lower. I should have rephrased that and said "future quality starter," in that case. I really did not like this draft.
  5. If you're only going to focus on the draft as being the back-bone of the farm system you're ignoring the contributions this team's farm system has had from international signings. Guys like Starlin Castro, Junior Lake, Ryan Searle, and Hak-Ju Lee all came through international scouting and signings. The Cubs have done an excellent job in recent years by stepping up their Pacific Rim scouting efforts, as evidenced by their signings out of Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. They also have picked up a number of guys out of Latin America who have positively contributed to the farm system. In that regard, the Cubs have done a very good job in the past few years. Not to drag off topic but this statement combined with your Milton Bradley sig creates a paradox in my mind. :-)) :-$
  6. Now that the problems have been addressed, I'm going to unlock this thread. Keep the discussions civil.

  9. Nice. I wonder who will replace him in Daytona? Will they just keep Craig Muschko in the rotation or will they promote, say, Chris Carpenter from Peoria? I'd like to see Carpenter moved up. He already seemed fairly polished when I saw him earlier in the season, but he's a bit old for Peoria and I'd like to see him somewhere a bit more age-appropriate. He's a lock for my Top 10 if he finishes the season healthy after having pitched 140+ innings. you get your wish. I wanted to see him one more time! :( Oh well. I'm looking forward to finding out the corresponding move.

  11. Beautiful. Wouldnt the Team of Destruction suggest that its a good team? I thought he was talking about the WWF Tag Team Champions or something. They should be facing off against the Legion of Doom soon enough.
  12. Considering 46th rounder Glenn Cook started in LF for the AZL Cubs yesterday, I'm going to take a wild guess and say he signed.
  13. Which guy should we sell? Remembering that pretty much everyguy has a no trade clause. Marmol, Lilly, Harden, Johnson (if he's healthy), Heilman, Gregg, Lee if he would wave his NTC. I would agree with all but the first two; Marmol despite his control problems is too valuable of an asset to get rid of, and if we get rid of Lilly and Harden who's left to start? Marshall and Samardzija
  14. So am i;is it time to cut loose of him to an AL team? The guy will never learn to control his temper How was his temper an issue today? He didn't intentionally hit Wise.
  15. It'd give the sportswriters fodder for months if a brawl erupted here.
  16. He's not the only one in this lineup who's worthless. No, but hes the only one who the entire offseason was worked around aquiring. Need we recall the offseason that was built around acquiring Soriano? Well done, Carlos.
  17. He's not the only one in this lineup who's worthless.
  18. Nah, the White Sox are going to let it stay there so that Soto can get a career-ending knee injury in the 5th on a foul ball behind him.
