  1. He's a better option at 2B than Fontenot, Theriot, or Baker. I'd happily take him in exchange for Theriot/Russell.
  2. Correct. Daytona's only two games up in their division, so they're not exactly running away with it.
  3. Not at all. It's perfectly normal for a rookie to have a .396 batting average.
  4. Imagine what Paul Sullivan woulda said. Rozner, imo. All he'd have to do is take his past articles, replace "Aramis" with "Manny" and "third base" with "left field", and he'd have a year's worth of material already written.
  5. In loving memory: http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/1466/tackleowned2.gif
  6. Jackson came on as a defensive substitution for Matthew Spencer in the 8th inning. He didn't get a PA.
  7. Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

  9. With their 12th win in a row tonight, Daytona's been the hottest team in baseball over the past two weeks.
  10. He was big into basketball until his senior year of HS, when he switched to baseball. So yeah, he's relatively new to it.
  11. Outside of Castro and Lee, I'm not sure we have a SS as good as Gordon (or close, even). Junior Lake probably is, but all signs indicate him moving to third. I'll always take a little extra minor league depth. I'd probably take Gordon over Lee at this point, although it would be close. I think Lee has a better upside (namely on defense, where his arm at SS is better), but Gordon's playing well at a higher level than Lee right now. Still, it'd be fantastic to have that kind of depth at MIF. You never know who will pan out, plus that depth would be incredibly helpful in swinging trades.
  12. Yes, he was traded from Philly to the Mariners 5 months ago. He was traded again to the Rangers about two weeks ago.
  13. No thanks: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=strang001dev BA had him as the #2 prospect in the MWL last season behind Aaron Hicks and ahead of guys like Brett Lawrie, Jaff Decker, Mike Montgomery, Eric Hosmer, and Josh Vitters. BA also listed him as the #46 prospect in baseball in the offseason and they have him somewhere in the 26-50 range in their midseason top 50. He's a good prospect and a better return than what anyone else would be willing to give the Cubs in return for Lilly.
  14. Hey, you can never have too many SS prospects. I'm not a huge fan of Gordon, but I'd be happy if the Cubs got him in a Ted Lilly deal. He's a Top 100 prospect with some nice upside. Also, fun side note, he's Tom Gordon's son.
  15. Jeter also had peak years of 8 and 7.8 WAR; I'm skeptical as to whether Castro's peak years will be comparable. I'm also skeptical as to whether Castro will be much of a consistent power threat in his career. Frankly, I'll be shocked if he ever hits more than 15 HRs in a season. Don't get me wrong, I think Castro's special and the Cubs are incredibly lucky to have him. I'm just having trouble getting it through my head that he could provide as much value to the Cubs as Jeter's brought to the Yankees. I think the last time the Cubs had a position player post a WAR higher than 6 was Sammy Sosa in 2001.
  16. First off, I think you're overrating Castro. Anyways, Lake is slugging .610 in the second half. In the FSL. That tells you all you need to know about his power potential. Over rating castro??? you are kidding right? Let me show you something tell me if you think he's Quote "Over-Rated" http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=516770 From a 20 year old in the BIG LEAGUES. Not MiLB anymore. I really, really hope Castro is named to 11 All Star Games, and wins 4 Gold Gloves, 4 Silver Sluggers, and a World Series MVP in a 15+ year career with the Cubs. However, saying that's Castro's ceiling is a tad bit on the far-fetched side of things.

  18. Why the hell did the Jays trade Wallace for Gose? That makes even less sense than what the Astros got for Oswalt.
  19. Gose and Villar can best be described as having basement floors and cathedral ceilings. They're both lottery tickets. What a steal for the Phillies.
  20. Rosenthal made a typo. It's Jonathan Villar.
  21. Apparently the Astros are paying $11m in this deal. Happ, Gose, and Worley would be a decidedly bad return for them if that's the case.
  22. While that's true, it's not going to happen it appears. Maybe he needs another tractor.
  23. BABIP hasn't been too kind to him this season, although it looks like he's turning things around a bit since he's hitting .276/.336/.449 in July...however, he's still striking out a whole heck of a lot. I tend to discard Ks in evaluating hitters, but when you strike out in a quarter of your plate appearances without hitting for much power or drawings a lot of walks, there's a problem. He still has the rest of the season to turn it around, but yeah, he's taken a big hit this season.
