  8. IT'S A TRAP!
  9. I wouldn't expect the moon for Theriot, but something along the lines of a DeRosa deal could be attainable. Stevens/Archer/Gaub was considered a mixed bag of C-level prospects with some upside at the time and it seems to have panned out pretty well. I could see a team giving the Cubs a grab bag for Theriot.
  10. 6/18 BA Hot Sheet Chat Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that moving Jackson to the bullpen and then moving him back to the rotation did more harm than good?
  11. The 6/18 Hot Sheet talks about two Cubs this go-round.
  12. Judging from the picks the Cubs have made, it'll probably end up being higher than last year's $4m; maybe it'll end up being around $5m. There are a couple of guys who'll be overslot candidates (Szczur, Pinckard, Geiger, and a handful of others), but I don't see anyone in this draft who'd ask for or be worth seven figures. $5m is still a pretty low number for a franchise like the Cubs, so I wouldn't be too happy with it.

  14. Decidedly blah day on the farm.
  15. BA has a bit more information. Jake Skole, selected one pick before Simpson, received roughly $1.56m.
  16. From BA's Helium Watch
  17. Hayden Simpson and the Cubs have officially come to terms on an agreement. More information will be forthcoming.
  18. I think that losing Nolasco was always the biggest reason to hate the Pierre trade. Losing Mitre and Pinto was just throwing salt in the wound. That and the fact that, at the time, all three players had substantially more value in a trade than netting a year of Juan [expletive] Pierre.

  20. Even I'm at this point, and I've been a proponent of Vitters for awhile. Hell, I could see Brett Jackson vault into people's Top 20 prospects in MLB by season's end at the rate he's going. The strikeouts are a HUGE concern for me with him. I'm very concerned he'll get exposed at higher levels if he can't make more contact. The big reason why the Ks aren't as much of a concern to me is that, in the time I've seen him, he does a good job of working deep counts. Inevitably, that style of hitting will net a guy a lot of walks...and his fair share of strikeouts. Moreover, compared to his Peoria numbers last season, Jackson is striking out substantially less per plate appearance while drawing more walks. I could see him struggle a bit as he advances up the ladder and faces more advanced pitching, but his results to this point have been quite favorable. As long as the Cubs are patient (groan), I think he has the makings of a really good player.
