  6. He's regained some of his lost luster, but I'd be cautious and wait until the end of the season before becoming interested in him. He goes through periodic hot spells and cold spells. Last year he started off hot, but crashed as the season progressed. His '08 was similar. I'll be thrilled if he keeps up his production, but his history makes me leery.
  7. Other than the fact that Ricketts has said he was expanding the player development and scouting budgets. That's the main thing that I'm worried about right now. +1 Regardless, if the Ricketts family really does want to cut costs and slash the budget, trading Zambrano would definitely help, even if the Cubs pick up a good portion of his salary.
  8. That's pretty much the case. Most of the guys who'll ask for more than $150k over slot don't deserve it and/or won't get it. A lot of them seem to be high floor/low ceiling types.
  9. How could this possibly make you or anyone else long for the Tribune over the Ricketts this early into the Ricketts' ownership? Considering this year's draft budget is likely around $4m (which is bad), I'm beginning to wonder.
  10. I want Silva to dominate so the Cubs can offload him for decent prospects.
  11. Manolin De Leon gets the start for the AZ Cubs. Also of note, Yao-Lin Wang piggy-backed Joe Zeller in Boise.
  12. Where'd you hear that, out of curiosity? Not doubting it, just wondering who the last pitcher was to do it. I'm guessing...Livan Hernandez?
  13. Someone get that man a new ulnar collateral ligament.
  14. Brett Jackson was HBP in his second AB for Daytona and had to be taken down for a pinch runner. :( Hopefully he's okay.
  15. If the Cubs could trade Zambrano, he would have been gone earlier this season. If the Cubs pay 50% of his contract ($23 million) at the deadline, they might find a taker. Rangers could be buyers at that price. Z is at the the point where he has to be willing to waive his no-trade clause. He isn't a changed man and his daughter's request not to act like a child was obviously not enough to change him. I don't think the Rangers can take on ANY salary. Their sale hasn't been completed yet. I think they're in better shape compared to a few months ago, but yeah, the odds of them being willing to take on that kind of money are incredibly low.
  16. For those of you who missed it: Story Video Carrie Muskat's Twitter Anyone want to take odds on who gets the inevitable blame for this?
  17. What the heck would he do to make this team better? Did I miss something, or does this team suddenly need more hollering and screaming?
  18. Lee seemed to just stand there and take Z's yelling. I especially appreciated Stone's comment about Lee not being like Barrett. That brought back some happy memories. The fun part about this whole debacle has yet to come. The same fans who've been whining and crying about Lou Piniella not showing any fire, not caring, and not screaming at anyone for their poor performances will be all over Zambrano for this. Imagine if it was Lou instead of Z, what would people be saying instead?
  19. Brett Jackson is becoming a mainstay on BA's Hot Sheet.
