  3. The Cubs want Anthony Rendon really really bad. http://www.baseballrumormill.com/images/gallery/anthony-rendon-walks-away.jpg “Hello, Cubs fans, look at your team, now back to me, now back at your team, now back to me. Sadly, they aren’t me.”

  5. He was drafted last year and BA had this on him: Sounds like a toolsy roll of the dice. BR says he's played CF all this season, so I'm guessing he'll continue being there in Peoria or Daytona. That's about what I'd figure the Cubs would get for someone like Fontenot.
  6. Wrong Crawford in the Giants' system, Jimbo. Still, I figured the Cubs would just let Fontenot go for nothing. I'll take any kind of return at this point.
  7. Jackson with a quality start, albeit not a particularly noteworthy one. 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
  8. Continuing BA's Best Tools series with High A today, Brett Jackson was named Best Batting Prospect and Best Strike Zone Judgment in the FSL, while Junior Lake took home Best Infield Arm in the FSL.

  10. I agree with you on all of that except the last part. I have little doubt in my mind Hendry is going to re-sign Derrek Lee.
  11. Well, at least 2007 was a really good rebound from 2006.
  12. BA's started on their Best Tools by level feature. Yesterday was AAA (subscriber only). The only name from the Iowa Cubs mentioned was Ryne Sandberg as best managerial prospect in the Pacific Coast League. Today, they did AA (sub. only). Only one Cub was listed, with Robinson Chirinos named the best defensive catcher in the Southern League.
  13. Jim Callis' Ask BA this week dealt with some interesting subjects with the signing deadline six days away. A few facts: And...
  14. The top of this draft should have one of the strongest groups of college players in awhile. Tryptamine mentioned Anthony Rendon, who suffered an unfortunate ankle injury a few weeks back, but should be healthy and ready to go next season. Essentially, he's been one of the best hitters in college baseball history and probably would have been taken over Bryce Harper had he been eligible this year. There's also a really nice group of college pitchers in Gerrit Cole, Matt Purke, Sonny Gray, and Taylor Jungmann. I don't know a whole lot about the HS end of things, although that stuff tends to be in flux year to year.
  15. Mateo's release point for his FB and slider are the exact same place on MLB.com. Me likey.
  16. Marcos Mateo being thrown to the wolves here. Go get 'em, rook.
  17. How has his movement looked? Is he having a night where his pitches are running all over the place because there is so much movement or is he just wild? How about his velocity? To me it just looked like he didn't have much control. Velocity-wise I don't remember seeing him hit above 91, but I could have easily missed it if he did. MLB.com says he never got higher than 91 on the gun.

  19. They're entertaining, imo. Plus, Fred has eerily encyclopedic knowledge of them in person.
  20. I don't care if it's Chirinos, Castillo, Robinson, Clevenger, or Brenly. I want Hill gone next year.
