  1. Doesn't just F5 work? It DOES! Also, news of major signings will be trickling out about an hour or two after the deadline passes.

  4. "If I want to hit him, I hit him! I don't want to hit anyone with splitters, or sliders, or cutters. Who wants to hit someone with those pitches??" Fantastic. The look on Kaplan's face at the end when Zambrano screwed up his name was priceless.

  7. Link Reed [expletive] Johnson? Seriously? I don't think Colvin will be much more than a 4th OF in his career, but there's more to be gained from playing him every day than Reed Johnson.
  8. In other words, the deal isn't official yet.
  9. I imagine Z will work out some sort of settlement with the Cubs once this whole mess is figured out and he comes back. Then again, if he files his retirement papers, he won't see another dime from the Cubs. Oddly enough, from a salary standpoint, this might not be the worst thing in the world for this team. An additional $18m in freed up salary would give the Cubs plenty of ammo to go after Pujols and Wilson, with enough left over to pick up some spare parts for the rotation, bench, and bullpen.
  10. Paul Sullivan's Twitter feed is getting decidedly stalkery.

  12. That poor Gatorade Machine was a few days from retirement. :(
  13. Dave Bush opted out of his minor league contract with us and is a FA now, or am I wrong? You are correct. I hadn't seen anything about it until I did a quick Google search. MiLB.com didn't have anything. Oh well!
  14. Oh sweet, I just realized there's a chance Dave Bush gets called up to replace Zambrano. This night is all kinds of awesome.
  15. Paul Sullivan is on the case!
  16. Plus, the Cubs have a bunch of those kinds of guys at higher levels than Jokisch. Off the top of my head, Rusin, Raley, Harman, and Lorick all fit into the same mold as Jokisch as soft-tossing college LHPs from big programs. His performance has been nice, but until Jokisch is doing this in AA/AAA, I really don't have him on my radar.
  17. I'm hoping we see something like this happen tomorrow. Link
  18. I'd love to see a three man booth with Len, Bob, and Z. Someone may very well get murdered at some point.
  19. On the one hand, Z previously talked about retiring at the end of his contract. I can see the motivation; his team sucks, the Chicago media is happy to rip on him at any given opportunity, and he's made his money. The borderline racist crap that will be spewing forth in the next few days will be utterly painful to read. On the other hand, Z is a headcase and I could see him showing up to the game tomorrow like nothing happened. He's in line for a suspension after what happened tonight, so we'd see him again in about a week. With $18m potentially freed up next season, I could see the Cubs going after CJ Wilson. Hopefully they'll also ink someone like Jeff Francis or Hiroki Kuroda.

  22. Aw man. You mean I've been wasting my time with these threads? *Sigh* MY LIFE IS OVER.
  23. The problem with trading Soto is, even when he's slumping, he's still a better hitter than the average catcher in baseball. Plus, while Soto has his share of defensive hiccups, he's done a very good job of throwing out runners this season (leads the NL with 28 and has a respectable 31% CS%). He's a decent defensive catcher. Putting it bluntly, considering that young players and rookies tend to have a learning curve and catcher is one of the most difficult positions to play in the majors, I have a really hard time seeing Castillo or Clevenger outproduce Soto over the next two years (when Soto's a free agent). Heck, if both were used in a platoon of sorts, I still have a really hard time seeing that. Plus, when was the last time a team played two rookie catchers? If Soto's gone, I could see the Cubs bring in a veteran like Rod Barajas or Jose Molina with one of the rookies as a backup. That's not an appealing option. As for the return, teams will pay a good price to get Soto, but I have a hard time seeing the Cubs get the kind of return that would justify trading him.
