  1. I think theres a good chance it will happen with a new owner on board. He wouldn't have the political BS past with Sammy. Plus they may wait until he is in the Hall. Also worth noting, it is occupied for the next three years. Who has it now? Bradley, I'm pretty sure. Better than Marquis, at least. Yes, Bradley is wearing it - and yes, it's better than marquis. I agree, marquis with that number made me sick. There is no reason that Sammy's number shouldn't be retired even if he did take PED's. Even more so since it's been five or so years now and there's still been no evidence to come out against him.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425768.jpg Looks like he's in a trance. Creepy.
  3. or the Los Angehimlifornia angels.
  4. That's nice of them. I heard that their ice rink tore the field up something awful - so good for them. EDIT: and LOL at Charles getting his name and picture in there for guarding the gate.
  5. The cubs didn't retire jackie robinson's number. MLB did. Those are two COMPLETELY different sets of circumstances.
  6. I really like this. I don't particularly take as much of an interest in reading the guys we just got rid of this offseason, but it's kind of cool to hear about guys like Scott Chiasson who are still floating around somewhere.
  7. No, it's not. He was with this team for FOUR YEARS. Two of which, as pointed out above, he was "league average." The Cubs are retiring his number completely based on what he did with another team, and that's stupid. I mean, at the end of the day, I like maddux, and I wont have a problem with his name flying above Wrigley. But when it comes down to it, that number should belong to Fergie.
  8. The best part would be unloading the rest of Soriano's contract and getting Jason Bay in return. Well, sure. Be serious about it, Mr. Mod.
  9. Not when I'm in chicago. But back in indiana where lots of businesses don't have their own websites and I still want to contact them, yes, all the time.
  10. Yellow Book. Not because I think it's good or anything, but rather because It's what shows up on my doorstep. Not that I think it's bad either. Just convenient.
  11. Rosebud was the sled, guys.
  12. The best part would be hearing them pronounce his name. Sohiano!
  13. I'd do that so fast it would....cause some effect due to how fast I did it. It will never happen though.
  14. cream and sugar please Would you like the fancy sounding "grande latte" that costs 29 dollars and comes in the fancy paper cup (and tastes like turd water)? http://www.boston.com/ae/music/blog/starbucks.JPG Orrr... This one that comes in a cup that the earth will never ever break down, but is dirt cheap and tastes pretty good. Oh, and they call it a medium coffee. http://www.notesofintelligence.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/coffee_03_dunkin.jpg
  15. Yeah, rotoworld reported a couple days ago that the giants, marlins, and twins were interested.
  16. FF is my primary browser and I'm not seeing anything like that. Is anyone else having a similar issue? Hmm. That is strange. I just tried also to click to view 5 Internet articles on the front page, and the writing only allows me to see appox half of 1 letter on each line. The rest of it is just blank white space. I switched the engine to explorer and it showed just fine once again. Update: I just tried it on my upstairs computer. It works just fine on firefox. I tried disabling all my addons on the laptop to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. So I guess my best guess now is that it has something to with Vista? (my laptop runs Vista but my desktop runs XP). It doesn't seem like it would be that, but I don't really know any other significant differences between the two. I have vista and use firefox and I have no problem.
  17. FF is my primary browser and I'm not seeing anything like that. Is anyone else having a similar issue? I'm using FF and everything is fine for me.
  18. The astros apparently are interested:
  19. Yes, but soto is also probably the slowest of that bunch. So putting him at seven keeps him off the basepaths for guys who are more likely to hit gappers.
  20. how? Because he's got Bradley, Ramirez, and Fontenot in front of him. Three guys who get on base at a pretty good clip?
  21. The point is, though (as mojopin pointed out) this isn't the first time. Why wasn't the integrity destroyed with greenies? Maybe Aaron wouldn't have lasted the full season (or as many seasons) without the aid of an upper pill. And thus would not have hit as many homers. And how is that fair to the evaluation of players in that time period who did not use uppers? Or what about players who threw spit balls? Or used other forms of cheating (Pine tar, hidden ball tricks, etc). Or how about the fact that until 1947 minorities were held out of major league baseball - therefore the best talent was not on display. Only teh best WHITE talent. How did that not destroy the integrity? The point is this; baseball has gone through things like this before, made it so the same mistakes won't be made again, and moved on. That's what we need to do here. We've pointed out the problem, put in place rules to prevent it, and now it's time to move on. Nothing can be gained by sitting here and continuing to complain about how horrid of a time it was.
