  1. I looked at some things this morning and find no mention of Arrington being out. I read a few places that he comes from 30 miles from Iowa City and went to Michigan because of the Fab Five. I wondered if it was the money or the clothing style Good one. If it was the money that gravy train aint rolling no more, Ed Martin passed away :P (Note: im not infering im happy Ed died). When AA came to AA he was their top recruit that year if he hadnt gutted his knee he would have had more playing time last year and Mario probably wouldnt have gotten as much PT. He also knew going in that they had a 5 star top 3 qb in Henne committing to UM. Thats nice for a WR. But yes he probably would've been a more focul point at Iowa. Mike Gottfried blows. I swear he sounds drunker than Harry Caray.
  2. This thread is intense. Whew. I think Juan plays great D with his glove. His arm sucks big ones. I dont know the difference from a great jump and good jump, just a bad jump. That term is so overplayed. Just catch the damn ball. I prefer my CF to catch the ball more than a CF who is average with the glove than great with his arm. Thats just my personal preference. Corey was said to get slow jumps, i never believed it. He caught the ball in the in end, so what...he caught it. Call me a nut job but i dont a care about arms in CF unless you are Jim Edmonds or Andruw Jones (oh they could still catch, so the arm to me is bonus). I dont want Juan back because of his d. I dont want Juan back because there are better options. I do like his socks though.
  3. Arrington might be out for UM tomorrow. Might be something like grades or something off field. Find out tomorrow. Suddenly the receiver corps could be really thin. Ill be watching the Wisc/Purdue game at noon tomorrow. I really expect Wisc to beat them by 10+. Wisc has flown under the radar this year and really rolled up some points lately.
  4. Its not like Edgar Martinez would fly down the line either. Lou aint dumb, id be shocked if he made public any disatifaction with Aram's hustle.
  5. I agree with this. Baseball players arent use to sitting for a week. Its not Detorit needed to rest the pen or starters. BP aint the same thing as live pitching. Rogers has pitched 2 outstanding games in the playoffs. He's a good pitcher but pitching 3 in a row is a tough task. I havent looked but im going to guess the Tigers have been really good with RISP. I dont have facts supporting this, its just what i seem to see. Mets have a great lineup, if Detoit doesnt pitch well they will get ransacked. Detroit starters have been pitching out of their minds, expect a regression. Detroit has an advantage with rogers and roberston being lefties against the mets lefty lineup. Carpenter can win 2 games for the Cardinals alone.
  6. Is this the game 7 thread too? im already drinking my caffeine. im a lot older than i used to be and have been having a hard time staying up and watching baseball this year. 10:30 is late for me
  7. I've been hastling with this....Do the Cubs offer Pierre arbitration if he hasnt signed before Dec 14 or 15? If they dont, they wont get the 1st round draft afforded his Type A free agency tag. Hopefully he will sign a multi year deal before then, but looking at the last couple years of FA teams have been waiting a long time to sign FA and many are signed post Dec 14 or 15 or whatever that day is.
  8. I like Lugo. Let him play 2b, and then when Iz gets hurt, which he usually does, move him over there and start Theriot at 2b. Lugo could also play a little 3b when Aram needs a rest or has his hamstring tighten up, which it usually does, and ooh ooh put The Riot at second again. If/when the Cubs find a suitor for Iz (or in 2007....OMG a plan in advance!) you can put lugo at SS and you guessed it, move The Riot to 2b! Yah-yah.
  9. Damnit about Mike Brown. The Bears are going to make the playoff without him but i sure want him IN the playoffs. Playoffs are like 11 weeks away so that gives him 3 months to recoup. If its close ill take the chance of not IR'ing this year (a good gamble as was the Rex one last year). Id like for him to play 1 or 2 games before the playoffs too, but that would be bonus. I liked what i saw in McGowan last year and a fair amount in Harris too. I know T Johnson had that big hit, but i dont like him in pass coverage (at least i didnt last year). With this defense id prefer a better pass coverage guy than run support. Dont let the offenses get a big play and easy score, id rather they had to work for the Tds. Im ready for Benson. Lovie isnt tied to veterans, we've seen that. If Benson can be in the game and make a huge spark thats all he needs. I think we will see more of him and hopefully he take advantage. If he can there is no looking back.
  10. I can see old guys losing velocity but when young guys less than 25 lose velocity and in matts case serious velocity its a real head scratcher. Going from mid-90's to 81-83....thats peculiar.
  11. Not me unless Michigan loses. Really i dont think i could handle 2 of these games, especially one for the title. I would rather lose to Miami than OSU for the title and i hate Miami, i dont really hate OSU. They piss me off, but i dont hate em. NUN laid out a possiblity but an incredible amount of situations would have to fall in place for it to occur. The world as i know it would collide.
  12. People think that a way to make a team hurt is by not buy tickets. Nope, dont watch the games on tv, then they will feel the pain. Its not about the asses in seats its about the boobs who watch the tube. The trib just got their wake up call.
  13. They just showed a clip of the Piniella/Dibble fight. Lou yells during the fight to Dibble. "YOU DONT WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A MAN". So classic.
  14. Found this... "Something that's never mentioned is that there are still limits to the type of free agents that teams may sign. If there are 14 or less type A and B players available, no team may sign more than 1 type A or B player. If there are 15-38 available A and B players, no team may sign more than 2. From 39-62 this becomes 3. The club quota increases accordingly for higher totals of available free agents. There is no maximum allowed for type C free agents. Lastly, a team can sign up to as many type A and B free agents as they've lost, regardless of the above quota."
  15. I dont agree that the Cardinals changed their game plan. Leinart at the begining was the recipient of great field position and Q Boldin was his main target. I dont remember Leinart throwin more than one deep ball ball. They did find some soft zones in the middle of the field but thats also dangerous to keep going there with a rookie Qb. The playcalling and playbook wasn't anything fancy. They started simple and kept it simple. They couldnt run the ball worth a damn and credit the Bears for that. If they were going to rely on Leinart passing downfield more he would of been picked off and probably sacked more. If they could of run the ball like an average NFL team they would of won easily. The only way they could move the ball is by passing and they werent doing anything differently at the end than what they were doing at the beginning. Its not like Leinart was ever dominating them at the beginning, the first drive was nice but that was dink and dunk city. Leinarts intermediate passing ability was always in question, i still dont think he answered that last night. And i dont like the team of destiny BS. Let the media say that, it shouldnt come from within.
  16. Hitting coach is unknown at this point, I think. It appears we know Rotshchild as PC and McLaren as bench coach. It seems it is speculated that Quade will be first base coach. Elia may be the hitting coach. I'd prefer Chamblis. Im putting my money on Elia. Ok so lthe rumor is Lou wants arod and if elia comes to chicago will he want corey patterson to come with him too?
  17. I'm not sure the Yankees will require a top notch 3B in return for Arod. Offense isn't their problem and there are plenty of "lesser" options to be had at 3B. They want starting pitching, which of course leads back to the Zambrano, Hill and Prior discussions. That, or you get another team involved (Marlins). Cashman would be nuts to use Prior or Hill as the cornerstone for this deal. And yeah i think the only way for this to go down is for a 3rd party to get involved. Then the Cubs could use some of their prospects and guys like hill/marshall in this deal. I dont have much optimism in Hendry pulling off a 3 team deal.
  18. I havent heard a limit of Type A free agents you can sign. The Cubs first round pick is protected anyway. So does that mean they cant sign a type A free agent? No way. I believe the team with a Type A gets a sandwhich first rounder if one isnt available.
  19. For the life of me i cant imagine the Cubs getting Arod without giving up Aram or Z. Neither of which i like all that much. Aram a little more than Z. Both of these are relatively lateral moves. If the Cubs had a David Wright in the minors waiting in the wings, id do the Aram thing in a heart beat. Unfortuanetly guys like Wright dont grow on Ivy. Prying away Arod from the Rangers is a lot easier than the Yankees. They could care less about blue chip prospects or salary dumps.
  20. I too thought he was very good at handling the pen in seattle. To me, this is really what i look for in a manager, how they handle the pen.
  21. I just read in todays trib that Lee Elia would consider coming to work with Lou if he is asked. He told baltimore he is a free agent. The man may actually come back to Chicago. If Lou wants him, id say he's coming.
  22. I refreshed too late!!! But I finally saw it! Have to admit: any tirade involving the word "ass" usually cracks me up. Stayed tuned for Cubs 2007. Lotsa asses gonna be thrown around some pressers :D
  23. Crown the bears super bowl champs i think. All the hype about them being the best team in NFL. 'You wanna crown them, crown their asses' i love it.
  24. Bears something like 36 total yards in last 22 minuts and erase 20 point deficit.
  25. Holy cow. Hilarious. I'd feel bad for him if they weren't playing the Bears. I still feel bad for them. Their defense is nothing to be ashamed of though. Rex was bad because Az played very good defense. He didnt adjust. You know, despite the fact that they outplayed us, I STILL cant believe that they are referencing the preseason game, as if it actually meant something. I really don't believe that despite everything. They asked Urlacher about the preseason game, and he laughed and said he doesn't remember the preseason... :) Well he wont be forgetting this one anytime soon.
