  1. Good stuff. Im looking forward to having Jacque or Soriano in CF. Not necessarily defensively but bat wise. 8-)
  2. There are 2 examples of plays made by Vasher why i like him so much now. I still like Peanut, but these 2 plays by vasher were outstanding. The int in the saints game and almost int in the Super Bowl covering Marvin deep. Both of those were on deep fly routes where 90% of the CB would be running their ass off downfield with their back to the QB and hopefully break up the pass by flailing there arms in the air at the last second. Vasher was in coverage literally running the route with the WR and his eyes on the QB. This is stuff i see champ bailey do all the time. Im not saying he is champ bailey but to me that is a major bonus in his coverage skills. I hate guys who just run down the field with no idea where the ball is and then get beat or get pass interference calls. How many guys have the skills, guts to do that against Marvin Harrison, not many. If i was a QB and saw the CB looking at me and running the same route as my WR like Vasher i wouldnt throw at him either. I am worried about how the Nate Clements and Asante Samuals deals plays apart in the negotiotion of Peanut and Vasher.
  3. The Pre and Post AS splits are definetly encouraging. Numbers that suggest significant change. Ryu to me was at best a middle relief pithcer. How many back of the rotation guys to the Cubs need? If you looked on the scouting report of the Cubs best pitching prospects close to the Majors, or in it for that matter, there would be like 8 'back of the rotation' starters. That phrase gets thrown around way too much. Add all the 'front of rotation' starters and you got yourself a 12 man rotation.
  4. Im with you on everything here but Vasher and Harris. Ive heard a lot about signing Tommie long term. I dont see what the hurry is since he is signed through 2008. Of all the people on this team they need to build around it is him so they should tread carefully but keep in mind the cap is raised another $7M next year and im sure it will go up in 2009 when Tommie will be getting his big money. They can use the added cap space next year if they have to for signing Tommie to an extension then. If they need to make cuts they can dump Wale and his $6M+ salary after 2008 and use that money on Tommie (they could role the cap hit of dumping Wale in the year 2009). Making Tommie fit shouldnt be a problem. Also to consider is they could Franchise Tommie in 2009. If Tommie were a UFA this year it would actually be cheaper to franchise him than Briggs. Who is more valuable? Tommie. DT dont carry a huge franchise tags, which is good for the Bears. Vasher needs to be signed. Ive been really impressed by his cornerbacking play this year. He fits this defense really well. Manning Jr. is very good in the slot but he is a drop off compared to Vasher. If you are going to pay Manning Jr. $4M+ year you better pay Vasher his money or they didnt budget well. Tillman needs to be signed to an extension too. Berrian is a RFA after this year so they dont need to worry about a huge pay raise until 2009. Grossman's performance in 2007 is the wrech, if he does well they might have problems (but if he does well they could drop Griese and his $3.5+ salary to offest his pay raise).
  5. When has Jim Hendry not spent money on players he likes? Overpaying for him....thats another story. Xerox a copy of Zitos contract and just change the names to Zambrano.
  6. Jeff Blowser. First year as a Cub he posted a .299 SLG %. .299 people. When your slugging is the same as combo meal from Wendy's you freaking SUCK.
  7. Not quite sure if Rufus will be there in round 2 for us. I'll be pissed if we take a TE, we didn't lose the Superbowl because of poor TE play. Yeah, I doubt it too. Before the workouts, though, we're all throwing darts. Clark was one of the more productive TE's in the league last year. Doubt we'll pick a TE. Especially considering we didn't last year. Ive seen Rufus or Beason go the Colts after the Bears pick. I go back and forth on TE. If the Bears resign R. Brown and get Steinbach they dont really need an OL in the 1st round. If the Bears only Franchise Briggs and cant get a long term deal done maybe they go LB. There seem to be some good OLB that will fit the Bears defense available in later 1st round of this draft.
  8. Nevermind. Says they have the cap room to franchise Briggs and that's it. I didnt read it that way about Briggs. Arizona looks to be interested in Ian Scott. Washington might release Adam Archuletta. I bring that up because the Bears were interested in him last year. Id be happy with R. Brown for a one year deal.
  9. Wisconsin is a severly underappreciated program no doubt. I dont think it matters so much getting the #1 or #2 rankings. There is much debate on how to rate a class anyway; stars, average stars, whatever you choose there are flaws. Are all stars equal? Id rather have uber QB prospect than a uber LB prospect anyday. Well according to rankings they are treated as the same but when the game is played they have different degrees of how they effect the game, and thats what its all about. Wisconsin is very good, but i think it can also be said what holds them back is getting these uber prospects.
  10. Interesting. I like it. The Bears didn't sit on their 15 win, SB runner up season, and got rid of the coaches for the 2 most inconsistent units. I like it too, although I dont know much of either. Lovie is definetly not cut from the same ilk as Jauron. Jauron and his loyalty to his coaches was freaking assanine. Feb 22 is the deadline for the Bears to designate Briggs as a Franchise Player.
  11. It does matter. It may not be a perfect science but more often than not there is a correlation that leads to success on the football field. Trust me, UM doesnt have the success they have because of the coaching, its because of the recruiting and talent they put on the field. If they didnt recruit so well consistantly they would be an average program. As for Charlie, he IS doing things differently. He's making it public about his disatisfaction with the process and pointing the finger directly at the kids. Every coach in America knows about the circus of recruiting but he can't shut up about it.
  12. Players decomminting is something fans and mostly coaches need to come to grips with. It's becoming more common. Charlie can talk all tough about recruits commiting to his team, but it could end up backfiring. John L Smith called out Zook in his recruiting saying something like 'where theres smoke there is fire'. Whatta jerk. John L is such a big mouth blowhard POS. Maybe Zook is just good at recruiting.
  13. He had 16 yards rushing. Willis had 11 tackles and was Defensive MVP. ...And from what i hear he had a very good week leading up to it. The practices leading up to the game are as important if not more important.
  14. Ask the Commish has rough numbers for 2007 salary cap as of Jan. 2007. This is a good guideline where the Bears are at relative to the other teams in the league. I think they are in fine shape considering all the talent on this team. 1 San Francisco 49ers $42.1 M 2 Buffalo Bills $39.7 M 3 Arizona Cardinals $36.7 M 4 Tennessee Titans $36 M 5 Cleveland Browns $33.305 M 6 St. Louis Rams $31.98 M 7 Minnesota Vikings $31.5 M 8 Jacksonville Jaguars $31 M 9 Cincinnati Bengals $28.8 M 10 NY Jets $28.455 M 11 Green Bay Packers $28.36 M 12 New England Patriots $26.98 M 13 Chicago Bears $26.9 M 14 New Orleans Saints $26 M 15 San Diego Chargers $24.6 M 16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers $23.985 M 17 Detroit Lions $23.8 M 18 Seattle Seahawks $21.9 M 19 Dallas Cowboys $21.5 M 20 Houston Texans $19.8 M 21 Miami Dolphins $17.8 M 22 NY Giants $15.7 M 23 Oakland Raiders $14.105 M 24 Philadelphia Eagles $12.4 M 25 Atlanta Falcons $11.5 M 26 Denver Broncos $7.6 M 27 Kansas City Chiefs $7 M 28 Baltimore Ravens $5.7 M 29 Indianapolis Colts $4.9 M 30 Pittsburgh Steelers $1.44 M 31 Carolina Panthers $-3.1 32 Washington Redskins $-2.388 M
  15. Tiger has won 7 PGA golf tournaments in a row. Thats like winning 30 tennis tournaments in a row. Winning 7 tennis tournaments in a row is much more commen than a player in golf. The secone best golfer in world would have a heart attack if he won 3 in a row. Federer is freaking good no doubt about that. What he is doing isnt leaps and bounds better than what Sampras did for a period there. Tiger is blowing everyone of his previous counterparts away.
  16. I had NFL Live on DVR. It was Manning on the play. Harris was in the end zone with Peanut because he came from the other side to try and get to Wayne.
  17. I just saw the Wayne TD. It was Manning. He jumped the inside route.
  18. Warning: do not hold me to this. Wale signed a 6 year contact with a $15M bonus. He's played 3 years so half of the bonus would be a cap hit. Roughly $7.5M. I think if they cut him after June 1st it would count towards 2008. Either way its a huge hit. He is going to get $3.9M in salary next year (not a cap hit). So its better to pay him than cut him (roughly $2.5M bonus + $3.9 salary= $6.4 cap).
  19. I don't get why you'd think that. I think this team is in a better position to sustain success than any super bowl loser in several years. Maybe they won't make it back for a long time, but they've got as good a chance as anybody in the NFC for the time being. ...And it helps being in the NFC North. The Packers might be better next year but unless the Bears fall completely on their face they should win the Division. Then Favre retires they will go downhill. The Vikes are going through changes at the QB and the Lions are the Lions.
  20. That's not really a fair example given that Vick IS the Atlanta Falcons. Regardless of how bad he plays, they are not going to bench him. Yes the i logic proposed had many holes in it. But if he is so good i dont see why they would let him go via trade or FA. They will give Vick one more shot next year, they are going to need a backup anyway and why not Schaub. It wont cost them much money compared to a vet backup QB. If a team really wants Schaub they are going to pay for draft picks. RFA do not change teams very often. It averages about 3-4 players a year changing teams. Schaub reminds me of the backup QB hype awarded to AJ Feeley a couple years ago.
  21. I read over the week Briggs say something about a 'hometown discount'. Maybe this was his face saving way of accepting the deal he turned down last year. Angelos should be committed if he doesnt franchise Briggs after a long term deal falls through
  22. Screw it. Try and get Schaub from Hotlanta. He's gonna be bad to the bone if he gets a chance to start somewhere. Well then he should start over Vick then. If he cant start over Vick he shouldnt come in for Rex. Its not like Vick is light years better than Rex, if he is better than Rex. Vick doesnt appear to gotten any better and hes been in league for like 6 years. Rex's better games are better than Vicks better ones and he's only really played 1 year.
  23. My comments to the coaching offseason moves: Rivera-Dont really mind if he leaves, hes good but this is Lovie's system, they should be able to plug a Def. Coordinator no problem. Turner-I would be more concerned if he left. I actually liked his game plans in the NFC playoffs game, the Super Bowl was so so. As stated earlier it would be better for Rex if he stayed and was able to use the same offensive system next year. Rex wasnt able to audible much this year, next year i heard Turner will looking into incorporating that more in the offseason. Toub-If he stays, if he goes, whatever. On Gould, I read an article in a local paper about him and he credited the NE Special Teams coach for his improvement not the Bears guy. Changed from 3 step to a 2 step.
  24. Garcia's the type of QB who needs weapons around him to make him really good. He has his limitations as a QB that can be exploited if there aren't the proper pieces-Cleveland and Detroit were not good fits for him, but a team like the Bears would be a much better fit. I agree with this, but im just thinking its not a no brainer. And if they are going to do anything it has to be a no brainer. I dont know how they would make this work, theyd have to get rid of Griese or trade him, i just dont think this acquistion is plausible. It would be totally unconventional.
  25. Garcia had a very good year this year; however, he was awful in Cleveland and terrible in Detroit. Leftwich, if he was so good the Jags wouldnt have questions going into this offseason if he is the starter or Garrad is. Garrad isnt great shakes, so why would they themselves have questions on Leftwhich? Lateral move. IF Kris Jenkins is released by Carolina for $ reasons id really like to see the Bears go after him hard. He's a freaking bad ass.
