More arbitrary end point crap: Russell has a .498 OPS over his last 170 PA. How can you possibly be so bad for so long and still get penciled into the lineup every day? I get it, he’s very good defensively. But his hitting is too bad to even be worth having his defense out there

Coming into today the Cubs had a .188/.266/.263/.529 batting line over the last week, OPS dead last in baseball by a full 26 points. Last in hits (35), 23rd in doubles (8), 29th in dongs (2), 22nd in walks (17). If we push it out to 14 days we improve to 27th best OPS at .631. Last month 21st (.701).

The Cubs SHOULD be able to figure it out and win that series, but I swear it seems like going to Arizona ends up in a horsefeathers series for the Cubs more often than not, regardless of how well either team was doing going into it. Someone crunch the numbers on that. Either way, I always automatically hate it when they go to Arizona because of the late start times and their dumb stadium for jerks. We actually won the series in Arizona in 2016 and 2017. I'm too lazy to look it up but I just happened to remember those two. We might have won the 2016 series in Arizona but we lost Schwarbers knee so it was a net loss. I have absolutely no recollection of the series in Arizona last year

8-6 would be the Cubs playing the pace that they have been playing all year so..yeah seems doable especially once we get that precious day off

So over the last 7 days despite the death march being extended by 7 more days, despite having to fly from Chicago to Washington and back within 24 hours to play a single game, despite having a .577 team OPS and absolutely no one looking good at the plate, and despite our bullpen looking depleated and all of our top guys either struggling or injured, we’ve gone 4-2 and lost no ground in the division.

Colorado is losing 2-0 early to SF. If they lose they would drop into WC2, 0.5 behind the Dodgers in the West and 0.5 ahead of the Cardinals for the Wild Card. Would be nice to avoid LAD in the LDS. And it would be nice for the Cardinals to miss the playoffs entirely. And I could totally see Colorado bludgeon Milwaukee pitching in a 1 game playoff
