  1. Brewers lose again so the Cubs will have to help them out again tomorrow to potentially force a 1 game playoff
  2. I mean they sent Happ down to work on things and working on those could be the reason he’s been better since he was called up. We’ll never know for sure if he would have hit like this if he was up all year but that’s how I always looked at it He was better than those players before the swing change or any AAA work. Yes, but it’s possible that the changes he made will make him a better player for the rest of his career. As much as we should be all in every year, I’d like to have this Happ for the rest of his arb years. Also the better critique for me is that they shouldn’t have tendered a contract to Human Garbage and they should have spent the money to sign someone better than Descalso for that role.
  3. I just don’t want the Brewers to win the World Series. One because their fans would be way too annoying smug. Two because that would mean Ryan Braun has a World Series title. Three because Brewers fans are mostly Packers fans.

  5. Yep, roller coaster Cubs offense is going back up again. Too bad it stops abruptly tomorrow
  6. Would like it if the Cubs managed to force the Cardinals and Brewers into a 1 game playoff. Ideally the Brewers win that, Nats beat Cardinals and Braves crush Brewers
  7. That’s now 11 Cubs with double digit homers this year.
  8. Who of their best (assuming health) are they not playing? I’m genuinely asking because my uncle from Milwaukee is complaining and I looked at the lineup and said “they suck but that’s the best (aside Heyward who pretty much sucks)” Oh I’m not sure I just assumed they weren’t. I see Kemp and Almora are in there and Mills is pitching
  9. You have to almost applaud the way the Cubs completely gave up. I mean none of this matters anymore and they aren’t playing their best players but you’d think there was some level of pride to not want to finish the season losing 12 in a row including 7 to your arch rivals. (I know it’s only the 4th)
  10. How many $ is a win worth these days? I’d say yes he should definitely be picked up, he’s probably more of a 4.00ish era pitcher than a 5. His ERA was below 4 before he inexplicably fell apart these last 5 starts.
  11. Last 5 Q starts: 5 IP, 4 R 3 IP, 6 R 2.1 IP, 5 R 3.1 IP, 5 R 4.2 IP, 7 R (so far)
  12. I am split on Addison being in the lineup. Part of me is mad that he's ever getting another PA for the Cubs, but the other part of me loves the embarrassment of being part of the surrender lineup.
  13. He doesn't even really touch on the fact that we've had to throw resources at fixing holes because we haven't developed any talent in several years. Oh except Bote, who they were so excited about getting an average player from their farm system that they quickly extended him through his arb years. Dodgers have won 7 straight NL West titles and the last 2 NL pennants. They also have a top 5 farm system. I expected a Theo run organization to be something like that.
  14. Pretty good breakdown on the Cubs FO failures since the World Series. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/9/26/20884788/chicago-cubs-missed-playoffs-theo-epstein-joe-maddon-kris-bryant From 2017-2019, the Cubs have given out $285.5m in FA contracts (valued over $1m) to 13 players (well 12 as Duensing is counted twice having signed 2 contracts) and have received 7.9 wins so far (4 of those contracts - Darvish, Chatwood, Kimbrel and Descalso don't expire after this year).
  15. They projected 82 wins. Which is where we've been for the last 10 days and will be 10 days from now. They projected 79 and were complete horsefeathers about it when defending it. Rob Arthur, Trueblood and the other smug horsefeathers there will not get any credit. Ok but finishing with 82-84 wins in my mind is a win for PECOTA since many people had then at 92-95 wins. They were more right than those that had them with 92-95 wins. I can't speak to them being dicks while defending their projections.
  16. The Cubs have scored 2 runs in each of the first 2 games of this series. In their last series, the Cubs scored 2+ runs in literally half of the innings they batted (12 innings with 2+ runs, 24 total innings)
  17. Brewers are about to go 17-2 in their last 19 games with more than half of them without their MVP bat. Such a stupid season
  18. Update: The Nationals have started out 3-0, the Cubs 0-1. Whoops
  19. Lucky for Flaherty that he didn’t get drafted into our development system
  20. It took 8 hitters but we finally got the 1st out of the 7th
  21. The pirates have been outscored 87-26 during the 9 game losing streak they are currently on. 87-26
  22. I mean I know they probably aren’t trying that hard at this point but losing to a team you outscored 45-17 10 days ago and is 25 games under .500 since the All-Star break is always bad
  23. I hear t!tties help him focus.
  24. Versteeg has already been sent to Rockford where he'll tutor the younger guys. Kruger was part of the price of unloading Hossa's contract. Surprisingly, Shaw isn't the worst player ever. He might actually be a useful player this season and I have never really thought much of Shaw. I love Saad so there's that. A lot of the season comes down to de Haan. He could be the other half of the shut down pairing that the Hawks so desperately needed last year and didn't have. Have their 2nd and 3rd pairings gotten any better though? I'm guessing no because any pairing involving Seabrook at this stage is going to suck. Love the dude for what he did from 08-16 but he's just horsefeathering bad now.
  25. Yeah he was not impressive last night. The throw to Gabriel was really nice but one throw does not make a good QB. But it does frustrate you because you think that if he can just be a little more consistent with his accuracy he could be good. Of course there are a lot of failed QBs you can say that about. Does that fact that he seems to do best when he's scrambling or during broken plays (or with the game on the line) suggest that he has a mental issue? Like in normal game situations he's trying too hard to run the offense properly and make progressions, etc that he overthinks things and ends up either making bad decisions or making the right one but not throwing accurate. But when plays break down he just plays football and finds the open guy based on instinct and raw talent.
