  1. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/28/business/media/deadspin-staffers-start-defector.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur That’s awesome but I’m not sure if I can afford another paid subscription in my life even as much as I love many of these guys.
  2. I can’t remember which thread we were talking about Marquee making ridiculous errors but here is another one: Let’s count how many errors this graphic has: 1. Obviously Strop’s name is misspelled 2. Jason Hammel never made a relief appearance for the Cubs. 3. At the very least Lee Smith and Bruce Sutter qualify for this list so obviously this list doesn’t capture all of Cubs history. WTF Marquee? Put some effort into your jobs Edit: Oh and I guess Sean Marshall qualifies for this list too which is funny because he was in the studio while this graphic aired
  3. Wow, Pirates blew a 5-1 9th inning lead? What a night for NL Central bullpens
  4. Disagree. Not when it gives someone a heart attack or worse... I was concerned that playing in empty parks wouldn't capture the same emotions as a normal game but this game officially proved otherwise
  5. I’m fine with a manager showing confidence in his closer but the dude walked or hit 5 of the 6 batters he faced and was clearly struggling to get the ball over the plate. It’s not like he was trying to paint the corners and was just missing. He had absolutely no command and to leave him out there and expecting anything but another walk is foolish.
  6. It doesn’t seem to matter. Anyone meaningful the Cubs sign for the pen besides Cishek inexplicably loses their command and/or gets hurt
  7. horsefeathers that ball was smoked. Definitely one of those wins where you are relieved but not feeling great about the team afterwards
  8. Walk Groundout Walk Walk Hit by a pitch Walk
  9. Just a reminder that Kimbrel hasn’t allowed a hit yet. This is all self inflicted
  10. Through next year Remember when we spent every game thread begging Theo to sign him last year? Whoops
  11. Holy horsefeathers, how can you leave him in this game?
  12. We should really get Kyle Ryan throwing. 60 game season, can’t afford to let Kimbrel figure it out
  13. Why do 90% of the pitchers that come here inexplicably lose their control?
  14. Tying run up in a game we were once leading 8-1 in the 7th
  15. Cubs have 11 relievers on the active roster and I only somewhat feel good about Kyle Ryan, but based on track record could easily feel good about Kimbrel and Jeffress with a few good outings. But wow, really crazy to see a team that is supposed to be competing with such a poor pen. Still early though, it’s possible a couple of these guys will figure it out as the season goes on.
  16. It’s definitely going to be an adventure to make it through 9 innings every night
  17. Lester 5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 base runners reached Bullpen 2 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 8 base runners reached Good news is this is mostly the bad part of the pen.
  18. I really enjoy inactive game threads because the Cubs are winning by so much
  19. I haven’t noticed any delay. There have been a couple of hits where it seems like it’s a second or so until Len starts his call. Like on the Contreras double down the line he didn’t react to say it was fair until well after the ump made the fair call. There was one in the 2nd inning too. Edit: this is the Willson hit. Thought maybe Len had trouble seeing the ball or something until I remembered he’s probably watching the same feeds we are, or very similar feeds.
  20. Is it just me or are Len’s calls about 1 second delayed? I know they’re doing the broadcast from Wrigley, just didn’t expect there to be any technical concerns from it.
  21. horsefeathers that guy. He was always one of my favorite obscure Cubs, mostly due to the fact that he managed to outpitch Roy Halladay at a game I went to at Wrigley in 2005. But screw him.
