Sounds right per my OP. bears are 6-5 in conference. Losses the next 2 games for Arizona would have them at 5-6. And the bears win the common games tiebreaker so even if the bears lost week 17 they’d win the tiebreaker

Answered my own question - weeks 2-4 of the 2013 season By the way, this is only the 3rd time in the last 25 seasons the Bears have scored 30+ points in 3 straight games. The other 2 times were 2013 and 2011. Before that you have to go back to 1995

my thoughts are this: unless you know you can get someone better, you should resign Mitch. You should also draft one, and keep a pipeline until you have a Rodgers/Mahomes, if you can Yeah pipeline is important either way. It annoys me that Pace said he believes in drafting a QB every year until he gets it right and he’s only drafted 1 QB in 6 years

Mitch is looking good with better playcalling but does anyone believe he can read a defense, make pre-snap calls, make something out of broken plays? I don’t. He can look good when things break in his direction but he’s still not able to read the field in the pocket or find guys when plays break down. Look at Rodgers when plays break down, or Mahomes with his side arm passes. That is in my mind what separates average QBs from elite ones. If Mitch was signed for 2 more years or something I’d say ok let’s ride out the lifecycle of the defense, draft a second or third round QB and see where it takes us. But if we want a true elite QB that can help the bears sustain success for a decade, we need to make plans to move on. Give him a 2 year prove it deal, 1 year fully guaranteed, 1 year without dead money. If another team offers him more be prepared to let him go. Just my opinion, I’d love to hear a logical counter. Too many bears fans on Twitter who have never rooted for an elite QB are blinded by a minimal amount of success IMO. Edit: I will also that this somewhat revitalization has been sustained long enough now that I have no choice but to revise my long term plan for him whereas initially I was unmoved and ready to move on regardless

That would certainly be chaos and would probably ensure Nagy and Pace are retained another year, and Mitch is given an incentive laden 'prove it' contract with the QB position not addressed. But I agree that while it still makes more sense for the Bears to lose, at a certain point you have to just suck it up and root for some short term enjoyment.

I suppose it's due to the 7th seed now, but discussing playoff opportunities with a team like this is kind of wild. If this was pre-2020 is there some outside narrow shot where we're sitll talking about the 6th seed and making the playoffs? I keep seeing all 4 of them going in the top 10-12 of mock drafts Teams that I could definitely see picking a QB that will probably finish ahead of the Bears if they go 8-8: Jets, Jaguars, Panthers, Broncos, Giants, 49ers, Patriots, WFT Teams that could pick QB but less likely: Falcons, Cowboys (if they dont keep Dak), Eagles (if they dont like Hurts), Lions, Vikings, Raiders Teams that definitely won't pick a QB: Bengals, Texans, Chargers, Cardinals

For some reason, I looked at the Bears playoff scenarios. That 7th seed looks like its going to come down to the Cardinals, Vikings or Bears. The Bears winning this week would obviously put them ahead of the Vikings in the standings. As for the tiebreaker, a win this week would: 1) tie them H2H record 2) Bears would move to 2-3 vs. the division, and the Vikings drop to 3-2. So Bears would lose the tiebreaker unless they beat GB and the Vikings lost to Detroit...which couldn't happen in a scenario where the Bears win this week and they ultimately tie in the standings, so the Vikings basically are going to win the tiebreaker Now Arizona.... their remaining games are Philly, SF and @ LAR. Fairly difficult, and they'd need to lose at least 2 of those games to tie the Bears if they go 2-1. In terms of tiebreakers: 1) did not play H2H 2) Cardinals are 5-4 against the NFC, Bears are 5-5. In the scenario where the Bears go WWL (knowing that a MIN win is needed and its more likely they beat JAX than GB), that would but them at 6-6, with the Cardinals at 6-6 3) Common games are: DET, Carolina, LAR, NYG. Right now the Bears are 3-2 in those games, the Rams are 1-3 so the Bears win the tiebreaker. So much better position vs. Arizona in terms of tiebreakers. Most likely scenario that leads the Bears into the playoffs (IMO) Bears go WWL (loss to GB) Vikings go LLW (loss to NO) Cardinals go 1-2 against their remaining schedule (doesnt matter which games)

man, I really want to throw in the 'but its preseason' objection but you are right, he looks really solid out there. No doubt there will be growing pains but the kid is 19 so he has a lot of development and improvement in him. I can see why AK loved him so much

My thoughts on Nagy and Pace are complete opposites. I hated what Nagy did with the kicker search. And his offense has been garbage most of the time. But I think he's been hamstrung by Pace's roster miscues. I could see Nagy learning from his mistakes and doing better down the road, whereas I think Pace is what he is. I'm terrified of Pace drafting sometimes. He (like every other Bears GM before him) can pick D well, but when he focuses in on an offensive player, ufff. He's a hard one for me because I like the Smith, Jackson, Johnson picks, but getting duffed on Trubisky because the 49'ers supposedly had interest from another team, and the fact he just liked Trubiskys car, scares the hell out me. We've talked a ton about Pace's issues. If we are unlikely to keep him beyond 2021, we need to just cut him loose now. He simply does not accurately value draft picks and we cant afford him running another draft IMO.

Update, since I know everyone is dying to see how things have gone. Traded Kyler Murray for Tyreek Hill. Picked up Herbert. Traded Mostert, Beckham, and Tonyan for Travis Kelce (this was immediately terrible for my trading partner obviously). Picked up Ekeler and stashed him on IR. Started 1-5. After the trades, the only week I lost was when the chiefs were on bye. Finished 8-6, top scoring, third place. Playoffs start this weekend. I'm hoping the chiefs need to keep playing for the top seed. I love fantasy football. Impressive turnaround! Can't believe you were able to grab Kelce for those 3 guys - even pre-injuries that seems light for by far the best TE in football. I'm in the semis with my team and somehow blew out my opponent this week despite 2 of my 4 starting WRs getting injured in the first quarter and scoring a combined 0.9 points (Deebo and Mike Williams). Now need to figure out how to replace at least 1 of them from the waiver wire.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. If you have a top ~12QB there is no NFL hell because you can piece together a contender without necessarily needing a top 10 pick. If you need a great QB you are probably going to find one at the top half of the first round. Bears need a QB but they are going to pick after the first 4 QBs are off the board. So they will have to find a stop gap which doesn’t really work that well in the NFL and try again in 2022. Or resign Mitch which...please no Eh. Tell the Lions, Chargers (Rivers years), and Falcons that having a top 12 QB means no NFL hell. NFC is constantly putting teams in the Superbowl with a middle of the pack starting QB. They use the term NBA hell to describe teams that are good enough to not be in the playoff lottery but not bad enough to get a top pick. Superstars make such a gigantic difference in the NBA that a team that doesn’t have one (especially in a small market) needs to get some lottery luck to acquire one. Similar thing in the NFL but only in regards to QBs. A good one makes such a gigantic difference but you are very unlikely to get one later in the first round or via FA. Those teams you mentioned had good QBs but of course even good QBs need talent around them to succeed. That other talent can be grabbed later in the draft, via FA or via trade. Their failure to get that talent ultimately limited their success, but they were never in a position where they needed to lose to dramatically change the fortunes of the franchise. Basically all I’m saying is the Bears need a franchise QB and they are too good to have a top 10 pick which greatly increases the odds of finding one. But they are too bad to be anything better than a fringe playoff team
