Sorry this becomes the daily chat thread. I saw Henricks was put on the IL today meaning that our IL now consists of Hendricks, Stroman, Miley and Smyly. Imagine if this was a season where fans expected us to compete when our top 4 starters are all injured. On the bright side this has given Steele and Keegan tons of major league innings and given us a chance to evaluate several other starters, though I'm not sure if anyone else has really emerged.
Bote's contract is just as bad as Heyward's. What a dumpster fire. I have no idea why they rushed so quickly to try to extend him. It was like they were trying to tell Bryant, Rizzo, Javy, etc 'hey look we are extending people, you should too'
Wow the Cubs do not think highly of Bote at all. What the horsefeathers? For those not watching, runners on 1st and 2nd, 0 outs and Bote up. Ross put on the bunt sign, Bote took 2 strikes. They kept the bunt sign on and he fouled a bunt away for a strikeout
With a runner on 2nd and 0 outs, you are expected to score 61.1% of the time. The Cubs have scored that runner just 38.9% of the time in extra innings this year and have failed in 10 of their last 11 extra inning innings
I was really hoping Big Ten would grab at least 2 more west coast schools. Looks like Stanford and Cal would be the 2 more likely options at this point. Poor Washington State and Oregon State
Correa talks about the Cubs pursuit a little in an interview/article. If he's being truthful, it may be hard to land him this offseason.
Not sure if it means much but it also mentions the Cubs never made a formal offer. Of course that doesn't mean they weren't talking with him Also says this about this offseason:
I wish the Cubs would win more extra innings games, mostly because I don't want my complaining about how much I hate the extra innings rules to seem like sour grapes
I haven't kept up with the NBA cap like I used to many years ago, but aren't they likely need to use additional space in season that would push them over that then? The tax is only applied at the end of the season so they could add during the season and cut someone to stay below the tax. heck they could have went over this offseason and made a trade or cut someone during the season. Seems like they don’t even want to come close to messing around with the tax
There’s a group of Cubs Twitter that trolls the opposing teams Twitter account after a win which is weird but whatever. That said, this one always makes me laugh:
Such a weird season. They’ve had stretches where they’ve been absolutely plummeted and barely look like they should be a major league team and then other stretches where they look pretty competent and dare I say almost enjoyable
