  1. I just don't see how it helps to throw your head of baseball operations under the bus like that. Maybe they don't fire Jed but seems like the relationship will be damaged because of it. Or maybe its nothing and everyone will get over it quickly.
  2. I know there are bad vibes with what happened to the last core, but there's no reason someone wouldn't come to the Cubs if they were offering the most money unless a guy is really really hung up on being guaranteed to be in contention next season. we have no idea what these FAs really are interested in. maybe they don't like the cold, maybe they don't like playing in wrigley, maybe they have friends/family elsewhere, etc. it could easily be that we're just getting unlucky with this particular free agency class not having a lot of chicago fans. i'm just struggling to find reasons for why we haven't done more so far. if we aren't serious about correa, there are so many other free agents we should have come away with/ nothing makes sense right now unless we're getting correa. It's only cold for the first 6 weeks. Bogaerts grew up a Cubs fan, Correa has engaged with the Cubs the last 2 seasons and has been recruited by other Cubs players. Swanson's new wife plays soccer for the Red Stars. I don't think they are turned off by the Cubs at all, unless they simply don't believe the Cubs will be good anytime soon. I think its really just a matter of Jed not wanting to give out contracts longer than 6 years and he's waiting in hopes that the market comes down to where he wants to play.
  3. he's probably trying to, but nobody wants to come to the cubs for whatever reason I know there are bad vibes with what happened to the last core, but there's no reason someone wouldn't come to the Cubs if they were offering the most money unless a guy is really really hung up on being guaranteed to be in contention next season.
  4. Didn't realize he's not a local guy anymore. Good for him. I still prefer Correa but I can get behind Swanson. Little surprised that he might go before Correa. Figured he'd wait it out and then profit from the teams that are left with one SS left to fight over.
  5. They won’t fire him this offseason. But I have to think he has to be on the hot seat unless he swings a trade for Tatis or something. If he doesn’t get either guy I may have to buy a cubs convention ticket just to see the atmosphere I don't know that I'd have the restraint to keep myself from flipping off Ricketts if I ever saw him, so I'm pretty sure it's best I avoid the convention. I'm certain you won't be the only one flipping off Ricketts if he makes a public appearance at Cubs convention lol

If he doesn’t get either guy I may have to buy a cubs convention ticket just to see the atmosphere Jed HAS to be pissed at Crane for putting him in the hole by saying all that horsefeathers just before the winter meetings. But anything Crane says comes directly from Tommy Boy Ricketts. I don't imagine there is a lot of trust right now from the baseball opps people. Completely agree. If I was Jed I'd be pissed off at the ownership right now. I'd also be out there signing lots of sweet FAs but that's beside the point.

  8. Guess its time for a new game thread. Bears 9 point dogs at home. Hoping for another electric Fields performance. While losing would be greatly beneficial, it would be nice to see him and the offense manage to keep pace with Philly for most of the game.
  9. something something rain delay speech
  10. Of course. Going to win 9 in a row to finish 11-3. Top seed in playoffs and have scored 200 points more than any other team. Everyone was healthy going into the playoffs. And then Kyler Murray tore his horsefeathering ACL and I have to start Heinicke or Sam Darnold in the playoffs
  11. How is Cubs twitter taking this?
  12. Another one bites the dust
  13. Sorry for posting DOM, he's the only one I've seen recap this interview Jed does know that he won't be here to see the 2018 scenario play out if he doesn't pull the trigger on these deals right? What I don't get is, if he's so scared of that scenario happening, why did he even take the job? Were they in alignment that he could run the team like a mid-market team while they went through this rebuild and fan angst has caused them to change their tune? Not defending Jed but he's gotta be frustrated that they deflected all the pressure onto him.
  14. Seems like it? It does seem the owners are expecting money to be spent, probably aren’t to picky on who or what (outside of maybe a big name or two to market) since that’s Hoyer’s job. They might not even be a 77 win team if he doesn’t do some stuff Yep, the reports that came out last week plus the Crane interview leave it pretty obvious. This is a franchise that has been cautious and calculated about setting expectations about individual offseasons and using vague statements like 'the money will be there when needed' to describe their future payrolls. The narrative has changed completely now based on the things they've said. They had to know that they were dramatically raising fan expectations. And now instead of 90% ownership blame, 10% FO blame (on twitter at least), its reversed.
  15. One Contreras in St. Louis, the other in Milwaukee. We live in hell
  16. No idea how substantiated this is but
  17. Remaining schedules Houston - KC, @TEN, JAX, @ IND Denver - ARI, @LAR, @KC, LAC Chicago - PHI, BUF, @DET, MIN Houston probably isn't winning 2 more games, especially because it looks like they are gunning for number 1. Denver has a tough schedule. Arizona is winnable but they probably won't have Russ (is that a good or a bad thing?). Bears will probably lose out. Seem destined for the 3rd pick but crazier things have happened. Seems pretty annoying that the Bears have played the hardest SOS in the NFL and also have the hardest remaining SOS in the NFL. Even though it helps us lose, it continues to kill our tiebreaker
  18. That's terrible. All the best for him and his family. Given the age of many of these coaches and the nature of their jobs it's a wonder this doesn't happen more often. Randy Walker is the obvious parallel. This sucks.
  19. Yep. My level of apathy towards the Bulls is strong. They gave me entertaining basketball so I’m satisfied
  20. Well that was something. 7 points scored in the final 2 seconds of the game. Unfortunately the Hawks scored 4 of those points.
  21. What percent would you say is in favor of the Cubs not signing these “dumb contracts?” Less than 1%. Even people who were saying that 2 weeks ago are now on “do whatever it takes” mode. White Sox fans are even worse right now lol. Chicago is very angsty right now about all of their sports teams.
  22. Also said that him and Tyler Adams got into it a bit during practice.
