  1. Doesn't surprise me. The Bulls had also had never signed a bigger contract than 5/$75m (to Boozer) before LaVine's contact this summer. JR is a cheapass Edit: Nevermind, Boozer was the largest FA contract. Rose signed for 5/$94. But still, I believe they were one of the only teams in the NBA to never give out a $100m contract, possibly the only team.
  2. Any interest once he clears waivers and not on the hook for his contract? Edit: nevermind, I think the Padres are on the hook for his salary regardless
  3. Wonder what accolades we can give to Pat this year to give the fans a feel good story when the team is 55-67 in August.
  4. **caveat, this is not a list by most recently followed, but interesting that he's following Swanson and his wife. Edit: Yes we're gotten to "someone followed someone on social media" part of the rumor mill. whatever
  5. Signing Boxberger seems like something a kidnapper would do if they kidnapped Jed and needed to do something so people wouldn't suspect he was missing.
  6. Considerably less than that. I've got right around $56. Yeah I got $56m from Sportrac which has their estimated luxury tax number at $176.8m compared to the $233m luxury tax threshold. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/payroll/ To answer your first reply, how do you see $56m vanishing quickly without Swanson?
  7. Cubs are $56 million under the luxury tax threshold right? Are we going to have to hear all season about how Jed left money on the table again?
  8. Guess $27m a year for 6 years isn’t intelligent spending
  9. they're like the blackhawks but somehow 2 years behind that was kind of my thought, they are in denial about their need to rebuild. But AKME doesn't seem like a FO that is going to be open to a gut rebuild and will keep doubling down on mediocrity.
  10. If you're taking "blow it up" off the table, what do you do if your the Bulls? Best hope is that they can swing some sort of trade and get a piece that can help you be a 2nd round team. But the Bulls assets are not great if you are considering DeRozan and LaVine untouchable. Vuc's expiring is likely only interesting for a contender who is looking to add another piece to their roster. Not really going to get a valuable player or prospect back, most likely a draft pick. Our younger guys have only lost value over the last year. Coby and Ayo are both expiring contracts and neither seem like anything more than role player. PWill is putting up some numbers but metrics show him as a slightly below average player. While he's still young its getting harder to sell teams on his potential. Like I just don't know how you can stay the course at this point, especially if Lonzo doesn't play this year. Are they just going to take it on the chin and give up a top 10 pick to Orlando and then run it back again next year? I'm not necessarily on "Team Blow Up" but I'm just struggling to see options for building onto the current team to make them less depressingly hopeless.
  11. 3 responses, 3 different options lol. They are all pretty close so I might just close my eyes and choose one. I could also play D'onta Foreman in that spot but even below average QBing usually gets more points than anyone but top tier WR/RBs. I'm favored by 25 points so hopefully can survive a bad choice but obviously fantasy is unpredictable.
  12. My options for my superflex spot: Baker Mayfield @GB Sam Darnold vs PIT Kenny Pickett @CAR Colt McCoy @DEN 6 pt passing TD if that matters. I hate that I have to pick one of these guys... any advice? Leaning Baker due to having the mini-bye to learn the system and better targets.
  13. They still owe San Antonio a 1st in 2025 (top 10 protected, or top 8 protected in 2026)

  15. I missed this in the Rogers radio segment today...apparently a discussion he had with Jed this offseason: That can certainly be taken out of context and clearly he's not saying he's trying to be the Rays but man that's not the comparison I want to hear lol
  16. Chicago sports strikes again
  17. Rogers also talking about Vazquez/Cubs: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2022/12/14/cubs-reportedly-offered-christian-vazquez-the-same-deal-as-the-twins-so/
  18. Jesse Rogers talking about Swanson/Cubs from Bleacher Nation: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2022/12/14/report-dansby-swanson-has-offers-in-hand-and-the-cubs-do-kinda-sound-like-the-favorites/
  19. Hey another rebuilding year isnt too bad. At least all the other Chicago teams are doing well right now
  20. Yeah we're probably not getting swanson. If Jed hasn't bent on his principles to this point he's already switched into "smart short term FA signings that could be flipped at the deadline" mode.
  21. They basically have to pay double (at least for 2023) what any other team would, so I just don't see how that math possibly works. If he's worth THAT much to the Mets, there must be another team who would be willing to offer him more while paying out less. We’ll see. Your logic is sound but I thought the same about Senga. They haven’t seemed to care to this point. Maybe this is one step too far
