  1. Yeah thats the problem. The Cubs have averaged 5.7 runs allowed in August including this game. The offense has been otherworldly until recently but its simply not sustainable, they're gonna have colder stretches.
  2. That part doesnt phase me. Morel can tie it with a swing, Seiya has been our hottest hitter, and we have 2 more catchers on the bench to take over for Gomes if we need to PH.
  3. I know baseball is a game of ups and downs but its crazy to me how the entire offense all the sudden look so bad. For like a month it seemed like we were putting pressure on every team we faced, starting innings with a couple on, getting big hits. Now it feels like we can barely get anything going. I don't want to act too negative, but just feels like we're entering one of those stretches where we struggle to score runs for a couple of weeks. Hopefully the bad teams we play won't allow us to do that.
  4. Would be so Cubs to win series against the Reds, Braves and Jays and then go like 4-8 during this stretch against terrible teams.
  5. I hope so. The Cubs offense looks to be going into a slump, but a slumping Cubs offense might still be better than the Brewers 😂
  6. Can’t believe Merryweather has only given up 6 HR this year. He’s been solid overall but feels like he’s given up several more HRs
  7. I guess we only play well against good teams now
  8. Dammit Seiya why’d you go too far there? Changes the inning ugh
  9. After all that Kyle’s gonna get a QS tonight edit: I see I was beaten in that observation lol
  10. Damn, runner on 2nd and 0 outs with 3-4-5 due up and couldn't get the run home.
  11. Every time Dansby comes up I expect him to strike out or homer. Doesn't help that we're back to having a terrible ump behind the plate again.
  12. My fear is that the offense is slowing down. This offense is good but I’m not sure what they’ve done over the last month is a sustainable level. Every player/team slumps throughout a season. Starting pitching needs to get better fast.
  13. Only 8 baserunners in the first 3 innings for Kyle
  14. Kyle allows 3 baserunners and a run, Happ hits a 2 run HR. Cubs have the lead but I don’t trust Hendricks very much right now
  15. Maybe?
  16. Dammit. Who can take that start? We're going against Clevenger who is probably their best pitcher this season with Cease struggling a bit. Guessing Assad since he would be on normal rest
  17. Keeping an eye on the Marlins, they flat lined for a bit and are rocking a -36 RD and unsustainable one run games record but think they did a good job of improving their team at the deadline, Alcantara is starting to pitch closer to last year's form and Cueto is just now starting to pitch (not well so far but small sample size and 1 year removed from being good with CWS). After a long down stretch they are 5-1 in their last 6 against the Reds, Yankees and Astros. I don't expect them to run away with anything but I think they'll be in the mix until the end at this point and due to tiebreakers they are currently 2 games ahead of the Cubs essentially.
  18. It is kind of dumb but I don't mind it. For 28 of the 30 teams it really doesn't change anything at all. If you don't care about it, think of them as regular season games because they are. The Bulls aren't going to play extra games against the Celtics because of this, they're just going to have 2 of their allotted Celtics games be considered part of the tournament. If youre looking for a reason to assign extra meaning to games during the slog of the regular season, this will help a little bit. It's a bit gimmicky and remains to be seen if this will do anything at all for fans, but it's not really anything at all unless you advance to the championship and have to play an 83rd game on a neutral court. It could be kind of cool if the stakes were higher though, like the winner gets a guaranteed playoff spot or gets an extra lottery slot with 1% odds or something.
  19. Trying to copy European soccer I guess, except in European soccer the in season tournaments are separate from their domestic league seasons.
  20. 6 groups of 5, 3 in the east 3 in the west. Groups are decided by previous year's record, but pulled randomly (the top 3 teams in the east each in a own group, then the 4-6 teams in the easy randomly put into those groups and so on down the line). Everyone plays the 4 other teams in their group once. These count as both regular season games and in-season tournament games. The 6 group winners advance as well as 1 wild card from each conference. Then there are QF, SF and Finals to crown a champion. I believe every game except the championship is a regular season game. The teams that don't advance will have regular season games added to their schedule so that ultimately everyone plays the same number of games except the 2 finalists.
  21. What do you mean? Is this the first you heard about the in season tournament?
