I think I read somewhere that another minor (or family of a minor) is now suing him which if true ruins the 'she told me she was 18' BS (which doesn't fly anyways). Pretty disgusting. Edit: also cl smooth mentioned this a couple days ago but no one responded about it.

ESPN did an article with a couple of different ways to measure Ohtani's value for this offseason. Not sure how valid these measurements are but found it interesting. So far so bad tonight. Marlins lead the Astros 2-1 in the 8th. Diamondbacks up early too edit: 4-1 now. Looks like the Cubs will be 1 GB tomorrow. Miami will be 6-1 in their last 7 after a long down stretch.

I hear ya. I guess there's just not enough to talk about. He threw 3 passes, one of them was a bit off the mark. I think the discourse is stupid, we should be hyped up about Fields' playmakers breaking off 2 long TD runs, or how well the defense looked after the first drive, or nothing at all because its a completely meaningless preseason game. I think the fan base is excited and nervous about Fields knowing that if he's going to be the elite QB we all think/hope he can be, its going to happen this year or never. If you are on twitter enough you have seen thousands of potshots at Fields for being "just a running back" over the last 6+ months. Fans are itching to see Fields prove them wrong, so everything he does is going to be amplified until he does prove them wrong. Then when he does that, other team's fans will find some reason that Fields can't be a top 5 QB, and Bears fans will go nuts over that, and the process will continue until he's as successful as Patrick Mahomes.

Reds win game 2, Giants also won their game So we lost ground on the Brewers, Giants, Marlins and Reds (0.5 game) We stayed even with the Phillies Not a great day to lose!

That 4 wins in a row consisted of playing 2 teams that are on average 26 games under .500. They won the first one by 1 in the 10th inning, the second one by 1 in the 10th inning, the third one by 1 run before finally winning a game by a decent margin (4 runs) today. I don't think the Brewers are playing all that well right now. Of course, they way they are built (bad offense, good pitching) they will naturally play many more close games, and to their credit they won the games when they easily could have gone 2-2 or 1-3 in that stretch. As it stands, the gap between the Cubs and Brewers SOS has only widened over the last week or two. Based on pure record, the average remaining Brewers opponent is roughly 5 wins better than the average Cubs opponent (82-80 team vs. 77-85 team), and if you go by Fangraphs remaining SOS, the gap is even larger at 7 games (83-79 team vs. 76-86 team). I think that difference in schedule is enough to cover the 3.5 game gap and the division will come down to the 6 H2H games. This isn't really responding to anything specific in this argument, just general thoughts on Cubs vs. Brewers.

Seems like a bad thing that every single member of the rotation is on a poor run right now. Steele is still pitching decent with a 3.54 ERA since the start of July, but also gotten a bit fortunate with 8 (!) different unearned runs during that period, 5 of them coming off one error. His ERA is over 5 during that stretch with less generous scorers calls. You can't ignore those errors but the fact that he allowed 5 runs to score after the error doesn't help prove that he's pitching well lately. Stroman's ERA is over 9 over the past 7 weeks, but hopefully the time off gets him right Smyly (who is expected to return to the rotation 'soon' according to Ross) has an ERA close to 10 over the last 2 months Hendricks has an ERA of 5.59 over the last 6 weeks Taillon was pitching well but got lit up today and his season ERA is 5.71 And yet during this stretch the Cubs are playing their best stretch of winning baseball this season. Offense + bullpen + defense > bad starting pitching

I do appreciate the Cubs offense going cold only on days when they're getting blown out.

Hope they play well against the scrubs and the Brewers struggle against good teams. It often feels like when you get these stretches it doesn’t end up being as easy as it seems

I think the other 2 were fine. I know he’s struggled in the past but we’re putting a lot of weight on one pass attempt. If he’s been working on mechanics all offseason to improve we’ll hopefully see it as he gets more game action.
