  1. I agree with that. Urban had a duty to report DV accusations to his athletic department and didn't, kept him on the staff for years and then rehired him at OSU while more reports of his abuse came in. Harbaugh lied about when he bought recruits burgers because he thought it was stupid that there are dead periods where he cant buy kids who are visiting campus lunch whenever he wanted to. I'm not saying he shouldn't get punished or absolving him of lying, but there are numerous examples of issues around domestic violence being treated less severely than less harmful issues (for example Watson getting 11 games for 30+ credible accusations vs. Ridley getting an entire season for making a $1,500 bet)
  2. I guess the one benefit (outside of the 1st overall pick and waiver priority) to finishing with the worst overall record the previous season.
  3. As the resident Michigan fan I'll homer it up and point out that JH is getting suspended 4 games for buying recruits burgers during a dead period and misleading investigators about it. Urban Meyer knowingly employed a domestic abuser for years, swept it under the rug while the abuse continued and was suspended 3 games. JH is absolutely in the wrong and misleading investigators is stupid and disappointing but why in the age of NIL do we care about when a burger was purchased for a recruit? Blah blah blah equal playing field...with all the shady horsefeathers going on with regards to NIL these days (like pushing players to enter the transfer portal by dangling a bag etc) its just funny.
  4. https://www.marqueesportsnetwork.com/marquee-sports-network-introduces-dtc/ In case you couldn't tell, I was being sarcastic about "only $20 a month". MLB.tv is cheaper for live games, and Marquee has yet to put out enough quality programming to make it worth watching Marquee outside of Cubs games imo. Edit: I realize there is value for Cubs fans in-market that can't access Marquee on their cable outlet or don't have cable and are blacked out from watching on MLB.tv, but $20 a month is insane
  5. We had that one season....want to say 2007 where all the Bears talk was on WindyCityGridiron. Sounds like that forum is lost to history
  6. Funny that they talk about the Crew but it makes sense since they only have 2 pro teams in town plus OSU. I can't remember Chicago sports radio ever talking about the Fire other than reporting the scores.
  7. Wake up everyone - the Crosstown Cup is at stake! Need 3 of 4 to claim it.
  8. Here come the "COVID vaccine causes healthy people to have cardiac arrest" people on twitter
  9. So basically the WC looks like this as it relates to the Cubs WC1: Reds (Cubs 5.5 GB) WC2/WC3/1st team out: Diamondbacks/Marlins/Giants (Cubs 5.0 GB 2nd team out: Phillies (Cubs 4.5 GB) 3rd team out: Cubs 4th team out: Padres (Cubs 1.0 GA)
  10. Tracking the other games on a Cubs off day. -Brewers beat the Reds increasing their lead over the Cubs in the division to 7 games -But all 5 of the teams that are competing with the Cubs for the 3 Wild Card spots and played today have all lost or are about to lose. Reds lost to Brewers, Giants lost to Tigers, DBacks losing 10-6 to Cardinals in the 9th, Phillies lost to Orioles and Padres are losing to Pittsburgh 8-4. Marlins were idle today If all holds, I’m not positive but I think the Cubs will be 5.0 games behind both WC2 and WC3, and 5.5 games behind WC1 crazy as it sounds if the Cubs can gain another game this week we’re probably closer to buy than sell…maybe? I mean 4 games in 2 months isn’t a ton to make up but we’re still talking about a .500ish team that has to jump 3 other teams to be in a playoff position edit: both the Diamondbacks and Padres completed their losses so pretty much as good of a day as possible for the Cubs playoff chances I think.
  11. Wtf was the point of putting him on the PUP list for 1 day before camp even started? I believe that if the Bears for some reason needed to put him back on the PUP list, it can only be the list that requires the player to miss 4 games.
  12. I'm pretty sure GatewayRedbirds was borne not directly from ESPN boards but based on NSBB's own success. So indirectly in this case.
  13. I still really like the idea of a light sell with the ability to maybe add if its not too cost prohibitive. The Cubs have a crapload of prospect depth and are going to have 40 man issues at some point. I'm not saying lets just toss one carelessly at a rental during a season where we can barely be considered contenders, but we have that flexibility. That said, I'm not sure where you can sell without torpedoing whatever small chances you have of competing. The Cubs definitely don't have the starting depth to trade Stroman and still compete unless Wesneski pitches like he did down the stretch in 2022. The Cubs pen is already weak and thin as it is, trading a pen guy to a contender will further hamper them. I don't see how trading a guy who is projected to finish with 4-5 wins like Bellinger be a good thing for their playoff chances.
  14. Welcome to everyone that's signed up in the past day or two. I have to say it's been refreshing to see a bump in activity with the new posters arriving, and several of you have already made meaningful contributions to the board, very much appreciated. I think you'll find lots of great insight from many NSBB posters as well. NSBB was originally formed in 2003 as a hub for intelligent baseball discussion, breaking away from the ESPN and Cubs.com forums that were a repository for terrible overreactive comments. The vibe of the forum has changed quite a bit over the years, particularly over the last 5 or so years when it became a group of 30 or so people who have been talking with each other for more than a decade and became a bit cliquey. But the quality is still there, and I like to think the mission of quality baseball discussion is still there.
  15. Great start: Fields doesn't seem to concerned and noted that Chase was part of Fields' personal camp he held 2 weeks ago with WR, but still a less than ideal start for him.
  16. Making the endpoint more arbitrary, 22-15 since June 9th, which is 96 win pace. They'll need to play at least at that level the rest of the year to have a shot.
  17. About as quiet of a final 3 innings as you can get during a Cubs-Cardinal game. Good stuff. Brewers lose, so the Cubs will be 6.5 games behind Milwaukee/Cincinnati in the division and 5.5 behind the Giants/Diamondbacks for the 2nd and 3rd Wild Card spots.
  18. A grand slam here would certainly be frustrating.... Or walking in runs because the Cubs have so few reliable middle relievers
  19. 90 through 5 for Taillon. Probably 1 more inning and pray that 7 runs is enough for the pen to hold
  20. FWIW, all of the teams ahead of us for realistic playoff spots: Reds tied with Diamondbacks 3-3 in the 6th Brewers lead Braves 2-1 in the 5th Phillies lead Guardians 4-3 in the 7th Giants trail Nationals 6-0 in the 6th Marlins lead Rockies 2-1 in the 7th Padres lost 3-1 to the Tigers If any or all of the Reds, Brewers or Giants lose, the Cubs can gain some ground with a win (can only gain 0.5 games if Giants lose, 1 game if the other 2 lose)
  21. Forgot about the Padres. The Padres and Cubs have the 3rd and 4th best RD in the NL and they are both much more likely to sell than buy. Crazy season.
  22. RD of some teams: Orioles (60-38): +46 Cubs (47-51): +43 Twins (52-48): +42 Blue Jays (54-45): +36 Red Sox (52-47): +36 Giants (54-45): +26 Diamondbacks (54-45): +15 Phillies (52-46): +5 Brewers (55-44): -4 Reds (54-46): -7 Marlins (53-47): -23 7 of those 11 teams are in a playoff position, 3 are within 2 games of the playoffs and the Cubs are 6 games out of the playoffs.
  23. Brewers beat the Braves tonight meaning the Cubs will gain no ground in the division or WC tonight. Running out of time to gain the ground we need to avoid selling. I know some people are saying sell no matter what and that’s fine but I’ll hold out hope until I can’t anymore. I do think even if we sell it should be a light sell and if we’re trading guys like Bellinger or Stroman we should be looking for pieces in return that can help in 2024 or 2025 at the latest.
  24. Nice W. 3 of 4 was the minimum and the Cubs have a chance to do that tomorrow
  25. I just assumed they were hitting back to back like yesterday, my bad. OK well get out Gorman to lead off the 9th so he can't tie it. Or score a bunch of runs here and make it futile.
