Playing terrible teams is masking the slump. But that’s probably a good thing. Teams are going to slump during the year, better it now against teams we can still beat and then have the offense humming again by the time we face the Brewers 🙂

At this pitch count Lyles can probably go 2 more. He’s usually a 5-6 inning starter. Frustrating that we haven’t been able to make him work more.

Reds lose. Cubs temporarily back in WC3. If the Marlins win tonight (they’re up 1-0) the Cubs will be 0.5 behind. giants also have a 5-4 lead on Atlanta. If the Braves come back the Cubs would be 0.5 GB Giants for WC2. I don’t care if anyone reads these updates it just helps me organize all the moving parts 😂

Dodgers come back and beat the Marlins 3-1 in game 1, pulling them even with the Cubs again and 0.5 back of the Reds for WC3. Brewers up 2-1 vs Rangers in the 5th, Diamondbacks up 6-3 against the Padres. Reds, Phillies, Giants and Game 2 of the Marlins are later today

Just drives me nuts that we led the team with the 2nd worst record in the majors 6-1 in the 5th inning and ended up having to use every single one of our high leverage relievers to (hopefully) finish off the game. We are in game 2 of a stretch of 27 games in 27 days. This is absolutely a game we should have been able to avoid pitching all of Merryweather, Fulmer, Leiter and Alzolay. 13 straight Cubs retired by the terrible Royals pen
