  1. 6-4....just like last Saturday Ross pulls Fulmer with 2 outs and 1 on, brings in Leiter who immediately gives up a run. Don't care about matchups or whatever, Fulmer was pitching fine, give him the inning.
  2. Better not end with Alzolay throwing 35 pitches in a 4 out save and being unavailable tomorrow.
  3. Do we like Merryweather as a 7th inning guy, or would Fulmer be better there at this point? Not saying Merryweather is doing terrible, he's an important part of the pen but sometimes has control issues, has given up 6 HRs this year. I get that Ross wants to use Fulmer for high leverage situations that come up during the game vs. giving him a designated inning and maybe thats the best decision. If you're concerned about Merryweather giving up long balls that certainly he's not the best fit for Fulmer's role, although being able to come in and throw 100 mph has its advantages in those spots.
  4. Of course Witt comes through. He's 5-8 with a HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored and 2 SB this series. Now the Royals are a single from a 1 run game
  5. Julian, could you cooperate and throw strikes? Walking back to back guys when your are up 4 runs in the 7th is sub optimal, especially when you have an elevated HR rate Edit: Also Witt Jr will bat this inning if no GIDP here
  6. In other scores, Marlins are up 1-0 in the 5th inning of Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Dodgers Diamondbacks are up 3-2 over the Padres in the 3rd Brewers and Rangers just started
  7. Annoying to give up a run on a well placed grounder, stolen base, and 2 groundouts but either way nice job today Steele.
  8. Morel the only Cub without a hit today. At least he didn't strike out this time. Hard to say about someone who delivered 2 gigantic hits over the last week but he's really struggling, now 4 for his last 47 with 21 K. Actually the fact that he delivered 2 big hits during that stretch is encouraging, he's able to not let this slump get to him mentally.
  9. Cherished number 3 hitter Ian Happ delivers with an RBI single
  10. Really nice inning for Steele after the leadoff double
  11. Nothing like starting an inning by botching a fly ball for a double.
  12. ^^ And I should clarify, I was referring to the first Bellinger HR since he just hit a 2nd one. Clearly Belli saw me put him on the list of slumping Cubs yesterday and he's taking it personally.
  13. I just saw the Bellinger HR, did that Royals OF really try to scale the wall to rob it? lol, did he not realize there's a basket? It was pretty impressive how high he got but hes just asking for an injury.
  14. He’s actually hit well in a small sample size since his return from injury as others pointed out recently. 6 HR in 42 PA and an OPS over 1.000 despite a .188 BABIP. But he’s been hurting us on defense quite a bit and with Candelario, Bellinger, Madrigal and now Mastrobuoni as corner IF options it just doesn’t make sense to play him other than a backup DH for Morel imo. We’ve seen enough of Wisdom over the last 3 seasons to know who he is and I’m not sure there’s a roster spot available for who he is.
  15. 11-9 is a bit deceiving. That stretch started with a 7 game winning streak and they are 4-9 since that streak ended including yesterday’s win. Their offense though has been really good as of late, not a great time for a team with a struggling starting staff and slumping offense to face them.
  16. I had a feeling we’d see a Wisdom DFA today in a “Ross can’t stop hurting the team by playing him so I have to remove that option for him” but I guess I was wrong.
  17. Not necessarily. Theoretically Tom doesn’t care how much dead money is on the payroll as long as Jed stays on budget. Yes it’s possible Tom has given Jed a 2024 budget high enough to not have to worry about the $10m owed to Mancini and Barnhart next year but it’s also possible that these are moves Jed had to make for this year and he’ll pay for it when constructing next years roster. it’s probably more of the former than the latter as it seems inevitable the Cubs will go into the tax next season.
  18. This is crazy, albeit League 2 crazy. Wrexham was down 4-1 at the half, managed to equalize 5-5 on the final play after a free kick deflects back to a Wrexham player for the goal. Also Tim Ream got a red card today lol
  19. Pretty sure Barnhart caught a lot of Stroman starts. Guess that’s why he’s not needed anymore. as TT eluded to, Tucker is owed 3.25m next year
  20. Well its official everyone we wanted to lose tonight won. There'd be days like this mama said..but she didn't tell me they would involve losing to the Royals.
  21. Supposed to be gaining ground during this stretch not losing it haha
  22. Brewers now lead 6-4, Marlins up 1-0. Not shaping up to be a great day for our Cubs
  23. Reds win on a walkoff HR so the Cubs fall 1 GB the Wild Card. Rangers have a slim lead over the Brewers
  24. I know it’s preseason but the Panthers look like complete trash so far lol why don’t we draft Caleb Williams and then just alternate series with him and Fields or maybe keep him as a backup in case Fields gets hurt?
  25. Doesnt sound promising. He also says he has no idea how he injured it which seems odd. Something doesn’t seem right about this whole thing. Stroman is a strange cat but seems bizarre even for him to walk up to the press box during a game to tell reporters about his injury. Is it possible he got hurt in an unusual way or there’s some sort of disagreement behind the scenes about what’s going on?
