  1. A good explanation, but still confuses me that they couldn't find one spot over the last 5 days to give him a token AB. Granted, 2 of the 5 games have been 1 run games that were close throughout, and the other 3 were mostly closer games that were broken open late. But I hope they can find a spot for him to at least appear in the game. There have been at least a couple of opportunities so far and they've chosen not to put him in.
  2. Something about rewarding him and getting some value out of being in a major league clubhouse? I dont know the situation is sort of weird. Like I'm not one of the people flipping out on twitter everytime the lineup comes out, but why have him on the roster if they won't even bring him in for the 9th inning of a 15-7 game or whatever? Seems like there should be someone in Iowa that can provide some value to a team in the middle of a playoff push. This has also made me ponder whether someone is considered a major leaguer if he is on the MLB roster, or if they are not considered a major leaguer until they appear in a game. You don't get a BR page if you are on the roster but never play right?
  3. Anyone else getting loud ads popping up on the site today? I am on my work computer and a few times today an ad with sound obnoxiously starts playing
  4. One more pregame note, the Cubs are saying that Stroman's bullpen in AZ yesterday went well and they are still discussing next steps. Apparently AZ Phil saw the session and said he looked to be throwing without pain and was fist bumping and high fiving guys afterwards. It will be interesting to see how this progresses....seems like even best case scenario he wouldn't be back until maybe the last 10 days of the season. Maybe he can get 1-2 shorter starts in there to build up his arm but I'm personally still not expecting Stroman to make much of an impact this season. We'll see.
  5. Ryan Walker is a rookie and it looks like he's been used as a multi-inning reliever this year to great success. But it seems like today is more of a bullpen type of game for the Giants today which sounds great, but the Giants have a really solid bullpen so could be a tough one. Right now, the Giants also seemingly have another bullpen game lined up for Wednesday as Tristan Beck is listed as the Giants starter. He has made 2 starts this year but generally pitches out of the pen. He also threw 1.1 IP yesterday against the Cubs. Their pen may be gassed by Wednesday, especially with a day game after a night game. Also looks like the wind will be blowing out strongly so hopefully Kyle can get weak contact on his fly balls today.
  6. Not sure if its relevant to the Bears yet, but Kelce reportedly hyper-extended his knee in practice today. They are not ruling him out on Thursday yet, but to me that seems like a couple week injury and the Bears and Chiefs play week 3. Not sure if we get past the Chiefs in Kansas City even without Kelce but it certainly helps if he doesn't play.
  7. Yep. Even HFA isnt that big of a deal to me. Just get in, win 2 games, and advance to the NLDS. I believe home teams are 6-6 in these wild card rounds (2020 and 2022), though thats a tiny sample size.
  8. Right that’s why I said end the day lol
  9. Brewers lose. The Cubs end the night 2.5 gb Milwaukee for the first time in 2 weeks (August 21)
  10. They did just sweep the Giants for us. Yeah, Brewers 2 outs away from going down and cutting the division lead down to 2.5 games for the first time in awhile. In other games Giolito pitched for the Guardians today and gave up 9 runs in 3 IP with the Guardians trailing the twins 18-3 currently. That could have been us!
  11. DBacks and Reds both finish off their wins. The Cubs playoff cushion (and cushion for WC2) remains at 3, but now instead of a 4 way tie, the Marlins are 3.5 back and the Giants 4 back. Also Phillies are up 6-1 so looks like their cushion over us will remain at 2.5 games. Finally, the Brewers are up 2-0 in Pittsburgh. It's looking like the only ground we'll gain today is on the team we played and the team that was idle. Much better than losing though and losing ground on all those teams. Finally, FG playoff odds for the Cubs are now 91.8% based on season-to-date stats and 83.6% based on FG projections.
  12. As mentioned on Marquee, the Cubs matched their win total from last year today, on September 4th
  13. DBacks up 1-0 early too. Oh well just keep winning. Seattle is red hot though and the Reds most difficult remaining series I believe. Need them to win a couple
  14. Worst they can do now is 3-3 H2H. The second tiebreaker is intradivision record. Cubs are 28-18 against the Central with 6 games left (3 vs PIT, 3 at MIL) Giants are 19-14 against the West with almost all of their remaining games after this series being against the West (outside of 3 vs Cleveland)
  15. Marlins are idle today so the most the Cubs can increase their playoff cushion today is to 3.5 games. Reds and DBacks have just kicked off their games.
  16. Giants haven’t scored in 18 innings and have scored 1 total run their last 3 games. Yikes Great win! Get to end the night 10 games over
  17. Clearly Ross is trying to get him as much time as possible to keep him strong for the stretch run. In normal bullpen usage having Alzolay pitch today is a no brainer. But as was pointed out on Friday Adbert has mostly gotten the job done but hasn’t been as sharp of late. Maybe dealing with dead arm?
  18. horsefeathers it let’s get cute and try to avoid the high leverage guys
  19. Got it. So it was Labor Day weekend. I was in Florida for the holiday weekend and remember watching it, just had the day wrong
  20. Yeah I’m not a fan of this but this is a big game. You might need Merryweather and Alzolay the next 2 days I guess. If Steele gets shelled in his next start we’ll know who to assign some blame to
  21. Walked the leadoff guy and still no activity in the pen. Kind of odd edit: or just induce a DP on the next pitch lmao
  22. Pretty sure that was on Labor Day too. At the very least it was Labor Day weekend
  23. Looks like it. He’s never gone past 7. pen must really be gassed. Merryweather and Alzolay should be more than rested but at this point of the season you give them all the rest you can I guess
