  1. I saw the Colts try this yesterday (their new HC was the Eagles OC last year) and failed miserably. But it does work much more often than it doesnt.
  2. We are officially at the point of Bears Monday where people on twitter are posting screen shots of open receivers that Fields should have thrown to.
  3. So far so good with the Braves taking a 1-0 in the 1st inning of Game 1
  4. Blocking grades for the Bears offense.
  5. Sure, but if they are really sitting there watching All 22 tape and focusing on every single player on every play, I'd trust their judgment more than someone who just watched the broadcast of the game. No one should take PFF as gospel at all, there are many flaws in trying to assign a statistical grade using judgment evaluations, but it's not completely worthless either.
  6. Agree, I didnt understand the complaints about Ross sticking with his guys. He spent half the season trying to find a way for Mastrobuoni to succeed (though has pretty much never used him since he's been back) and like you pointed out has given plenty of young guys opportunities to succeed. Wisdom was a starter in April and now has barely played over the last month. He benched Seiya for a week when he was struggling hard, he benched Morel after struggling hard and is now working him back into the lineup. Yes the offense has been slumping but other than Canario there isnt really a ton of enticing options on the bench who should be playing over these guys. Canario situation is odd but they were clear from day 1 that he's not going to play much, so not really a matter of Ross being stubborn and sticking with his guys. I'll complain about Ross with the best of them, but don't really see the issue here.
  7. Maybe coming out of that slump too? 11 for his last 31 (see I can use my arbitrary end point stat powers for good too)
  8. I'll admit we are doing some overreacting but its different when a team like the 49ers lays an egg, and a team with the worst record in football last year plays horrendous
  9. And some defensive grades: Zacch Pickens - 75.6 Jack Sanborn - 58.6 Yannick Ngakoue - 58.5 Gervon Dexter - 56.9 Dominique Robinson - 55.2 Tremaine Edmunds - 51.2 DeMarcus Walker - 50.6 TJ Edwards - 49.3 Justin Jones - 45.9 Rasheem Green - 37.7 Just an atrocious game all around based on PFF grades (and everyone's eyes)
  10. Some PFF grades for the Bears are leaking out Darnell Wright - 72.1 (highest of any Bear on offense, grades out to basically average) Roschon Johnson - 71.5 D'Onta Foreman - 68.5 Khalil Herbert - 65.5 Darnell Mooney - 63.8 Justin Fields - 60.9 (82.0 rushing, 49.4 passing) Nate Davis - 48.6 (26.8 pass blocking grade) Cody Whitehair - 47.2 Chase Claypool - 43.2 Lucas Patrick - 43.2 Also Braxton Jones had a 89.9 pass blocking grade. Must have done really poorly in run blocking, plus im not sure how penalties are factored in
  11. I thought he missed several easy throws, hit a couple of good ones, sounds very similar to a typical Fields game. The question is how he looks when hes facing an opponent that doesn't have the lowest pass rush win rate in 2 seasons, though the Packers oline is good so he'll have more games where hes protected well. Most QBs can hit throws when they are comfortable in the pocket....I just didn't see anything particularly impressive from him. But no means was he bad but he looks more in the line of average to slightly above average more than anything special. But its just one game and I'm a Bears fan so I don't know what good QBing looks like
  12. The stat I posted was the Bears defensive pass rush win rate I believe
  13. I think its real, PFF posts their top graded players for offense and defense for free, the 5th highest graded PAckers offensive player was around 66 and Love wasn't on their top 5 Here's more fun:
  14. Yeah interesting series with Wicks and Assad both getting their first taste of Coors and Taillon going in the other game. Others that are smarter than I can comment on how their pitches will or won't be affected by the altitude.
  15. Of course you would love that lol I'm old enough to remember him as Bears radio PBP, he was ok but he was absolutely atrocious as the Bulls PBP guy imo
  16. Agreed. Packers fans dont want to hear it but he has accuracy issues. If he was being pressured at a normal rate I think he would have had a poor game. He made the passes he needed to though...that one lob pass TD in the corner of the end zone was nice, but similar to Fields he can have nice throws but also miss on simple ones.
  17. More fun stats: The Bears pass rush win rate was 10%, the lowest mark for any team since 2021
  18. Packers had 35 pressures yesterday vs. the Bears 6 pressures. Here is how the OLine did
  19. I do agree that by not taking a QB they absorb some of the responsibility of Fields that they didn't have before, but I also think Poles specifically set things up so that the commitment they made is for this year only. I don't think they evaluated him and said 'yep he's our guy', they said 'Not a fan of these QBs in this class and next year looks awesome so Fields is our guy....for now'
  20. I think the only coach (or important coach) that may be trying to save his job is Getsy. Eberflus is a defensive coach, was hired by the current FO regime, and its his 2nd year. If Fields craps his pants on the field, ultimately Getsy or someone on his staff will be the scapegoat. Eberflus can survive a QB he inherited not working out as long as his defense and overall team are not a disaster (whoops). Poles will survive a QB he inherited not working out. If Eberflus wants Fields throwing more downfield to see if he sinks or swims, he'll make sure Getsy falls in line.
  21. This is what is pointed out constantly whenever I see a video with an analyst breaking down Fields games. Always situations where Fields has to rip it as a WR is coming free but he either waits too long and throws it when the window is closed or waits too long and never throws it and ends up being sacked, scrambles or dumps off. fields has never been considered a good anticipation throw QB and that was why everyone said Nagy was a bad fit for him.
  22. If we can take care of business in Colorado our opponents have some interesting series ahead. Marlins (2.5 GA) have a 4 game series in Milwaukee (3 GB). Winning games will allow us gain on one of them and we are guaranteed to gain on one of them on Thursday when we’re off. Phillies (2 GB) host the Braves (umm 17 GB) for 3. Tough matchup for the Phillies, good for the Cubs attempting to catch them for WC1 Other relevant series are the DBacks (2 GB) playing in NY against the Mets for 4 games, Giants (3.5 GB) hosting the Guardians for 3, and Reds (3.5 GB) traveling to Detroit for a 3 game series (starting Tuesday)
  23. This is going to be controversial but I don’t like Pat on TV, elite radio guy but always feels off when he’s doing tv. Perhaps it’s just because I’m so used to hearing him on the radio
  24. Maybe this was always a low key tank year number 2 for Poles. I realize he didnt build a contender, but most people thought the Bears improved. But thinking about it, he barely got to the salary floor, drafted a RT with his top 10 pick, focused the biggest part of his FA spending on linebackers and not much on pass rushing or pass blocking. He did get a WR, but then game planned to throw short passes and screens. The LB will be useful in future seasons, the RT will develop and hopefully be good, Moore is here for the next 3 years after this one. But as assembled maybe Poles is shooting for another 3-14 but just being less blatant about it. Or maybe he just doesnt know what he's doing
