  1. Sure offensively...but how many errors does he save on D? It seems like 1 out of every 3 throws by Ramirez is in the dirt. Can Todd Walker handle that?
  2. Of course nothing is offical until the Cubs say it is, but if the Score is reporting hes being fit for a cast...well thats not good.
  3. Thanks a lot Scott Eyre, who taught you to do the glove flip, Todd Walker?
  4. Just for fun I Googled the words "preliminary report was false" on google to see how often this happens, and it turned up with 0 results :(
  5. For those wanting media confirmation, watch sportsnight NOW (630 CST) and see what Kerry Sayers says
  6. What the heck? I don't buy that part of the report. Be it Sullivan or Levine, neither one is the epitome of credibility, by any stretch. Yeah, the comment wasn't based on any news other then their personal observations from watching Prior and Wood pitch. I just felt like adding it because it was frustrating enough to hear about Lee as well as hearing that compounded it.
  7. Theres 50 games between now and June 15th (8 weeks from today). If the Cubs played .500 ball, they'd be 34-30 at that point. What do you think the Cardinals would do during that stretch? Probably something like 28-22, making them 37-28. That would put us 2.5 games behind them with Prior Wood and Lee hopefully healthy. I dunno I'm trying to rationalize here.
  8. Kerry Sayers (is that her name?) just reported that her sources said that the Cubs are expecting the worse, the results are in and the doctors are looking over it now, they are currently not releasing any information about the injury, but the range she was told was is 8-10 weeks. She also mentioned something about the Cubs looking over contingency plans while Lee is out. This was reported on Chicago Tribune live, more details to follow on Sportsnight at 6:30. Then Bruce Levine (or was it Sullivan) also mentioned something to the effect that if the Cubs get Prior back by June 1 that would be lucky for them. Wood probably not until the end of May. So looks like we will be without 3 of our best 4 players for the next month at least!
  9. Can we use 2005's numbers? :P Seriously, though, I think the economic health of MLS is in much better shape than that of the NHL right now. MLS just got a sweet TV deal, attendance is up and nearly every team is getting or has their own stadium now. I don't know. While I would agree that the MLS is in much better economic shape a few years ago, the NHL is still a ways ahead of it IMO. I think in Chicago we get a clouded view of the NHL because for all intents and purposes, hockey doesnt exist. I still don't see mainstream media speak about the MLS as they do the NHL. The average American sports fan could probably name 3 NHL players, but probably not MLS players. These are all generalities, but I think you see my point. Here's hoping the MLS does become the 4th sport, and with the baby boom of soccer players growing up, it just might.
  10. Did anyone else hear Gammons mention this even? Seems the source is a post on WSI only. Not worth our time. Well WEEI is a Boston radio statio, most Boston fans could care less about speculating who is going to buy the Cubs. The person that posted it on WSI lives in Boston and for some reason has an affinity towards the White Sox and loathes the Cubs (which is funny because the teams are operated in a similar fashion - save the winning). So he thought it was relavent to share. From the sounds of things on WSI, he mentioned it in passing, perhaps on a different topic all together.
  11. Say what you will about Reinsdorf, but there have been exactly 7 championships for Chicago teams in the four major sports in the last 20 years. All 7 have been Reinsdorf's teams. The Chicago Fire won 2 titles in the early part of the decade.... Soccer just missed the four major sports cutoff....it was REAL close though... :D The Fire probably consistently outdraw the Blackhawks. I'd argue that they are the 4th major sports team in the city... EDIT: Average attendance for the Fire: 98-17,887 99-16,016 00-13,387 01-16,338 02-12,992 03-14,005 04-17,153 05-17,238 Hawks: 98-17,330 99-16,274 00-14,997 01-15,569 02-14,795 03-13,253 The Fire easily outdraw the Hawks. As much as I enjoy the Fire (and I do), lets now compare total revenues, including major TV deals, licensing, etc.
  12. It's too bad we don't get to choose. :(
  13. Don't forget no home games on TV!
  14. Apoligize if this was posted elsewhere. I took this from a rumor on WSI: http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69832 That ought to make the news of Lee's injury look better by comparison...
  15. So much for Dusty's praise about our Bench being so versital(sp). I guess no one expected DLee to get hurt
  16. I could be wrong, but it didn't even look like Lee took a hard blow. He fell over sure, but his hand was already recoiling towards his body when Furcal hit him. Furthermore, it may have been adrenaline, but it appeared that Lee wanted to stay into the game despite the injury. I could swear at one point, he was standing there with his glove on his hand, crossing his arms and watching Eyre pitch. It was about that time that Pat Hughes incorrectly reported that Lee would stay in the game. Something smells like precautionary here. Again I could be really wrong, I'm not a doctor and I have no experience diagnosing injuries, but I wouldn't be shocked if Lee was back sooner then most think.
  17. Right knee contusion - Day to day - Eyre Sprain on wrist - needs more xrays - Lee
  18. I didn't see it. Wishful thinking or honest opinion? That's pretty much what I'm predicting as well. I highly doubt Lee broke anything. Derrek would have been in a lot more pain if he broke his wrist. Worst case scenario, he misses a week with a bad sprain of his wrist. Eyre couldn't even lift his leg, he's going on the DL.
  19. Did you know Jimmy Rollins extended his hit streak to 35 games on Opening Day this year? It was a double I think. Good one.... Sorry, I'm in a random mood...not sure if you were around for the opening day thread... Anyways, scroll back a few pages for a response, but with 0 outs in the 7th, Furcal tapped one back to Eyre, who kinda fell when he fielded it. He attempted to glove flip the ball to Lee on first, but instead threw it way over Lee's head. As Lee was watching the ball fall over his head, he was standing directly in the way of Furcal, who basically had no choice but to charge right into him on his way to 1st. Lee immediatly fell over in pain clutching his wrist. He left the game. Eyre looked shaken up too and tried to throw some warmup pitches, but he couldn't even kick his leg up for his delivery, and he too left the game. My estimates are that Lee will play Friday (IMHO, warning I could be WAY off), and Eyre will go on the DL for 15 days.
  20. That throw reminds me of a game against I think the Mets last year when there was a runner on third and 1 out, Patterson made a catch in shallow CF, the runner faked a tag up and Corey threw it as hard as he could, about 3/4 the way up the screen behind Home.
  21. Did you know Jimmy Rollins extended his hit streak to 35 games on Opening Day this year? It was a double I think.
  22. CUBS LEAD! DERREK IS GOING TO BE JUST FINE!!! SO IS EYRE! THE CUBS ARE GOING TO WI- oh crap Mueller just crushed one, I'm pretty sure Lee's bone is sticking out of his skin, Eyre is getting his leg amputated right no- oh wait it was caught.
  23. You can't be serious right? Yeah, Im 95% kidding. I just like to take jabs at Cubs management whenever possible. Has Bynum done ANYTHING to warrant ABs over Hairston this year? Maybe he runs a 40 in 0.12 seconds faster then Jerry or something.
  24. Eyre hurt himself falling onto the ground to catch a ball. If he got hurt, you can blame the Cubs management for not caring if Eyre got in shape in the Spring.
