  1. Meh, they deserve to put as much advertising up as they want. It's obvious from the Cubs track record that a majority of revenues that devalue Wrigley Field so much are being used to improve the ballclub, one of winningest ballclubs in all of sports. To steal from WSI (which is one idea I really like there) /teal
  2. And some ignorant ones: September 26 -- For the fifth year in a row, Dodgers closer Eric Gagne is awarded the prestigious Greatest Canadian Reliever Award, as voted on by the Canadian baseball press. I wonder if they realize that if that award was real, it more then likely would have went to Ryan Dempster last year.
  3. And then just some odd ones: May 8 -- Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano experiences elbow problems for the second year in a row due to spending too much time online "e-mailing his brother," according to a team report. But since Zambrano also is reported to be suffering from poor eyesight and unusual hair growth on his palms, many suspect the "e-mailing his brother" claim is a cover story.
  4. You are truely a pimp. Let's hope G-Unit pitches better then Z did today...
  5. I was going to start a similar thread titled "I LOVE SPEED" As I sorta eluded to in the game thread, I think speed will be a big factor in the success of our offense. Fast players cause defenders to make more hurried rushes to the ball on grounders, and cause them to potentially make bad rushed throws because they know they have to be perfect to get the runner out. Obviously, it also affects how they run on the bases too, as we saw when Pagan (or was it Cedeno) made it in easily on that single through the left side by Walker. It is also a big deal to the pitcher, as he must spend time concentrating on the runner at first, and lose a bit of concentration on the batter. I don't think the speed will affect the offense as much as it did today, but you'd be suprised how much of a dimension it adds to the team this year.
  6. I think Rollins did get a hit. Can anyone else confirm? Yes. A Miles missed hitting for the cycle in his last ab. Needed a homer, hit a double. congrats on starting 1-0 folks. Redbirds on the way this Friday. You know I'll be there!!! As will I. My goal is to be the first person in the new bleachers. I might have to get there at 8am....
  7. Hey I am doing some research on hitting streaks from last year that were continued on Opening Day this year. Can anyone please confirm if any such event has occured?
  8. Anyone else trying hard to contain their excitement, knowing what happened last year? 2003: W 15-3, Rest of series: 0-1 2004: W 7-4, Rest of series: 0-2 2005: W 16-5, Rest of series: 0-2 2006: Up 16-7, Rest of series: ? Thoughts: Loving the speed, if this holds up all year, I owe JH a huge apology, but I'm still far from that point yet.
  9. I am assuming that he will not negotiate during the season. If I am wrong then forgive me. It was around this time before first pitch last year when Ramirez signed his deal, time is running out for Lee to do the same. How much do you think Lee will go for on the open market next year?
  10. But I thought they cancelled plans for it? Or is that chain-linked fence there just for the fun of it? I heard they were going through with it, but they'd be closing it during games because it 'wasn't fair for paying customers"
  11. I like your team a lot too. Ramon Hernandez should rake in Baltimore, obviously you know I like Holliday and Ellis since they are on my team too. The fact that you have Peralta frustrates me because I was one pick away from getting him before someone else snatched him up. Very frustrating, but he's a good pick. I am predicting Chipper to have a comeback season of sorts (if you've considered him gone in the past), Chrone will give you steals and Giambi will give you power. Bench looks solid too, obviously with a lot of potential and younger players. Jason Michaels is also someone I wish I'd have gotten. The rotation is pretty damn good if you ask me. If Sheets is healthy, he should be a solid pick, as well as Harden. Patterson should see his numbers somewhere around last years with him still pitching in Washington, and Lackey might be a very underrated pitcher in the mainstream. The bullpen might need a bit of work however, you do have some interesting variables there. Overall, I think the team should be pretty solid in the league you are competing in
  12. I picked 2 catchers because I wasn't 100% sold on Willingham and wanted a backup. I thought the top 3 in my rotation is solid, if Duke can recover from a bad spring. The back end will give me wins, but the WHIP will be hurt a little bit, especially with Livan Hernandez.
  13. This.....is awesome. Props to Bruce for getting us the Opening day lineups a day in advance. Prediction: Cubs win 5-4
  14. Got class until 12:50. then another class at 3:30. If the Cubs are within 2 runs or winning i'll probably skip. If now, i'll drag myself to class
  15. A: David Ortiz B: Ryan Howard Albert Pujols C: Bobby Abreu David Wright Lance Berkman D: Matt Holliday Adrian Beltre Chipper Jones Justin Morneau WC: Jim Thome
  16. Rate my team and I'll rate yours :)
  17. Eh, it's all in good fun if you ask me. I don't think anyone openly wishes injury upon anyone, no matter who they are. As much as an injured Edmonds or Pujols would initially trigger our bitter rival sensors and have Cubs fans rejoice in a few high fives, I don't think anyone would truly be serious in being happy for them being injured. It is just good natured ribbing and nothing more than that. As for our scrappy little Neifi, I know we all hold a place for him in our heart ;) I woke up today expecting at least one April Fools article like this, and who better than to write one on than Baker's favorite side dish and our favorite player to love when he's on a hot streak (and disown when he's not, for that matter)? Article got me until about the halfway point. nicely done Good natured ribbing? Rejoicing with high fives for an injury? Nah, I hate Edmonds as much as the next guy, but not enough to high five an injury to him.
  18. I was kinda on the fence. Don't get me wrong, I love Todd, but if you are going for that whole D thing, might as well go all out. JHJ had a decent Spring.
  19. Yeah Hendry's strength is building value on seemingly valueless players. One of his weaknesses is holding onto players with value too long until they have little to no value. I think they cancel each other out.
  20. NLE: Atlanta NLC: Cubs (Not a homer pick, I just cant see the Cards and Astros being as good, Brewers aren't ready yet, so Cubs are default pick in a bad division) NLW: Dodgers NLWC: Philadelphia ALE: New York ALC: Cleveland ALW: Oakland ALWC: White Sox Braves over Cubs in 4 Phillies over Dodgers in 5 Phillies over Braves in 7 White Sox over Yankees in 4 A's over Indians in 5 White Sox over A's in 6 White Sox over Phillies in 6 Oh crap I picked them again :(
  21. No, I'm a firm believer that the AL is much better then the NL right now. The AL has won the last like 4 AS Games (2 that "count), and the AL currently has an 8 game winning streak in the World Series, sweeping the NL's best the last 2 seasons.
  22. Do you guys really have that much hate for Neifi to OPENLY wish he injured himself? Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Neifi, but when coming off the bench he does have some stuff to offer to the team. A) His solid D makes him a good late inning replacement B) He is semi-fast C) He is streaky and when on a hot streak is valuable D) He is (sadly) one of the leaders of the team and helps the chemistry more then most give him credit for. E) He can play both MI positions well I can see why Neifi on the team is a detriment, with Dusty itching to play him whenever possible, but a Neifi used correctly is not necessarily a bad Neifi. It's not like Neifi kicked your dog or anything. Openly wishing players got hurt has never been in good taste and Neifi is no exception. I'd shudder to think about the reaction of this board if Jim Edmonds ever got hurt.
