  1. Yeah, baby! Can you play any worse and win a road game vs. a RPI top 50 team? 14 first half turnovers. 17 in the first 24 minutes. 24 fouls committed. 11 FT disadvantage. Allowed 50% from the field in the 2nd half. That's a tourney bid for IU. Hopefully, a win over Wisconsin puts us in the #7 seed range. Davis deserves credit for once again getting his team to play with a chip on their shoulder when they need a win, as a lame duck coach. Don't get too exited. Michigan is simply not that good. They haven't won a single meaningful game on the road this year (Penn State was probably their best road win, all of their good wins - MSU, Illinois, Wisconsin have come at home). They have lost 6 of their last 8 games and they are starting to look like a one dimentional team (Horton was the only player doing anything for UM in the second half) I doubt Michigan will even make it to MSG this year for the Final 4 of the NIT** ** - If Hunter and Abram come back, they they might be a much better team. But very doubtful Abram and his spained ankle make it back (he's more injured then Kerry Wood) and Hunter is about 50/50 to make it back for the first round of the NIT.
  2. All my sports teams suck. Michigan won't make the tourney
  3. Am I sure? No. Do I think it would be probable? Yes. They would have a .500 record in the conference and 17 wins overall. That resume would include several wins over ranked (at least at the time) teams and the aforementioned single-digit losses against the top two teams in the country. I strongly feel that SHOULD be enough to get them in. Whether it actually DOES is up to the committee. I agree. I think 1 more win at any point before the end of the BTT gets IU in. IU has beat Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State when they were all ranked. Two of the Hoosier losses are to #1 eams in the country (Duke and UCONN). They will finish no worse than .500 in the Big Ten, despite disappearing for 6 weeks. I think IU is looking at a 10 seed. Not to nitpick, but Michigan wasn't ranked when IU beat them. Go Blue today. I know everyone is saying that Michigan is in, but since I haven't seen them in the dance since 1998, I'd be worried if they lost today and in the first round of the tourney, something that is entirely possible given the bad karma of the team remaining since the later-90's scandals
  4. Who is that man and what has he done with Z!?
  5. Sorry 'Cuse, I'm just stunned about the outcome. DePaul shot 16-28 from 3pt range, and I'm almost positive shot over 70% in the second half.
  6. I hate the Cavs. Never liked them before, was hoping they would collapse like they were starting to, thought this game would be the straw that broke the camel's back. Now I hate them more. No disrespect Mike Aller, I like you as a person, but I hate your team. Teams I hate the most: 1. Knicks 2. Pistons 3. Cavs 4. Wizards 5. Raptors (not nearly as much hate now that Jalen is gone)
  7. Yeah the view isn't as great as being in the park obvious, nor do you neccesarily get the sense of being at a baseball game with 40,000 other people, but most of the rooftops have an open food/bar policy included with the price. Can't beat that!
  8. I really have nothing to add to this conversation. I just wanted to post in the first game thread of 2006!!
  9. When I lived in New Hampshire in 2003 and 2004, it worked brilliantly. Like said, the video quality isn't great, but if you put it at full screen and sit far enough away from the monitor, I don't really notice the difference. Make sure your zip code isn't in the blackout range, it can extend pretty far
  10. At least it wasn't called Enron Field at one point. Oh wait... or PacBell. Oh wait... or SBCPark. Oh wait... or AT&T Park...(just wait) Yeah well none of those companies is tied to one of the biggest scandals in corporate American history!
  11. It is? I never hear about it. Never heard of the "Bank One Bears" I remember a huge fuss about it a couple of years ago when it was announced, but I honestly hear almost nothing about it anymore.
  12. At least it wasn't called Enron Field at one point. Oh wait...
  13. The most exhilirating non-playoff series for me, ever. Sammy hit HRs 59-62 during that series, and Beck got the win in the last two games. Anyone else remember the walkoff HR by Orlando Merced? Nice videos Bixby. Merced's homer was nuts. I was a 15 year old kid sitting in the bleachers when it happened. It was pure bedlam after that, with random people foolishly celebrating by throwing everything they could get their hands on onto the field. I had an entire beer land on me. Kinda a shameful way to celebrate, but it was fun nonetheless
  14. So far the Cubs have lowered payroll, raised ticket prices, increased their stadium capacity, and sold naming rights to a part of their ballpark. Interesting...
  15. So that's two head injuries for Duhon in as many days? I think the second one was the first injury being reaggrivated
  16. Oh man I remember that Gracie HR! I was actually at the game the day before when Sosa hit his 60th. Missed history by 1 day :( But that was a crazy series if anyone remembers it. Its the only 3 game or more series that both teams have scored more then 10 runs every game in the series
  17. Last year at the Brewers series, my friends and I spent 3 different days betting a Brewers reliever named Crawford that he was going to get in the game, and he said he wouldn't. My friend jokingly tried to drop 10 bucks into the outfield in game 2 to pay up when he didn't get in Game 1 and Crawford waved it off. Also, we asked Carlos Lee where his steroids were and he jokingly told us to shush, then pretended to inject himself. Good times all around. LOL!! Thats the funniest thing I've read today (well its only 9:30 but still) To continue on Mark's story, the Blue Jays pitching coach gave the heckler a ball eventually, but the fan continued to heckle him anyway. After awhile, Scott Showenweis (sp) was running sprints where the guy was standing. The guy started shouting that he runs like a girl and Scott (or the pitching coach, I don't remember) turned to him and said, "you should be the one running these sprints fatass" and then pointed to the fans obviously round belly.
  18. Last WS Title - Mil: Never, Cubs: 1908 Last Playoff Appearence - Mil: 1982, Cubs: 2003 Last Division Title - Mil: 1982, Cubs: 2003 Last over .500 record - Mil: 1992, Cubs: 2004 Last Playoff Series Win - Mil: 1992, Cubs: 2003 Last 90 win season - Mil: 1992, Cubs: 1998 Number of +.500 seasons in last 10: Mil: 0, Cubs: 4 Finished Higher in Standings last 8 years: Mil: 3 Cubs: 5 Man the Cubs can take crap from a lot of teams, but the Brewers are not one of them. No disrespect to Brewers fans, but when you diss the Cubs based on relative performance between the two teams, I have to step in.
  19. I'm not one for "cool quirks". I hate Houston's park with the too short left field, train on tracks and hill in dead center. (Thank goodness they got rid of the flagpole on the field.) Or San Diego's left field corner with the warehouse hanging over the field. Or Arizona's pool just over the center field fence. At least the new Busch has fair and decent dimensions and didn't turn it into a homerun park to build up Albert Pujols' numbers. The initial indications are that it will be a balanced to slightly favoring the pitcher park. Yeah maybe quirks wasn't the right word. I dunno from looking at those pictures the park looks really bland and doesn't stand out to me from other recent ballparks. Maybe its just a result of the number of new ballparks around.
  20. Regarding MSU, I've seen worse regular seasons from them that have gotten them into Elite 8 and Final 4's. In fact, the one time they got bumped in the first round, they were a 5 seed I think losing to 12 seed Nevada (I think). They will show up come tournament time, as much as it pains me to say it. If Michigan doesn't beat Indiana on Saturday, they will be in danger of being replaced by IU for the 6th spot :(
  21. As far as the Illinois/Wisky jealousy goes, I've been on the other side of the equation living in NH bordering Massachusetts and of course Boston. We called them Massholes (am I allowed to say that? if not, edit please). We criticized them for driving too fast, and making trash of our state as they visited it (frequently). They called us rednecks and countryfolk. Very very similar. I like being on the FIB side :)
  22. Shush PACKERS fan
  23. Is it just me or is there really not much that stands out about the new Cardinals stadium? I looks like a PNC/Citizens/GAB mix to me. Will a Cardinals fan please tell me about some cool quirks or features with the new ballpark. As much as I hate the Cards, the Cubs deserve to play their arch rivals in a great ballpark all the time instead of 50% of the time.
  24. Great he's a Dusty guy. Say hello to our new main setup man
  25. I wouldn't count on winning one of those - not saying they can't or won't - just that losing both is a possibility. They better win the Purdue game because Michigan will be tough. Agreed. Purdue has been playing better since IU saw them last. And that will be tough on their senior (do they have any?) day. But that's a must win. Can't afford another bad loss. I'm actually not too stressed about the Michigan game. Davis owns Amaker. So did Weber and Izzo
