  1. There has to be some effect on Dansby playing every game but I guess as long as it doesn't affect his defense too much you have to just live with the fact that he's old school like that.
  2. All true. As I've said I'm not that upset about his lack of role. But I'd love to see him get an AB at some point. Heck maybe even a medium leverage AB in a situation where the matchup favors him...sometimes young guys have immediate success in the MLB as an unknown entity before the league gets a book on them. Or he could come up there and swing at 3 terrible pitches and have anyone wondering why a most established player wasn't batting there. Just never know I guess.
  3. Brewers up 3-1 on the Pirates in the 6th. Need to keep pace!
  4. Haha if I recall correctly, Giants fans really wanted Seiya and expected him to sign there. They must have loved seeing that happen last night.
  5. Just looked up "Phantom Ballplayers". There have been 2 players this decade who were placed on a roster for a longer period of time than Canario without playing (and then getting sent back down) In 2021, pitcher Miguel Romero was called up by the A's on Sept 8. He was optioned down to the minors on Sept 21st without appearing in a game. Also in 2021, pitcher Steven Fuentes was called up by the Nationals on April 20 and sent back down on April 30 without playing. Seems like the longest a position player stayed on a roster without playing is 5 days.
  6. This was sort of discussed in yesterday's game thread. A day game after night game during a grueling part of the schedule (27 games in 27 days with the 1 off day and a doubleheader), makes sense to work in some of the bench guys I guess. I'm not a big fan of Wisdom being on the roster but if he's here he's occasionally gonna get starts. Amaya by virtue of being the only backup catcher now is naturally going to play on a day like today. Morel is still struggling but maybe that jack last night gets him going. Belli and Seiya are still in the lineup and hey Dansby is 5 for this last 13 so maybe he's snapping out of it a bit.
  7. RE: Alzolay Doesn't say whether he's available today, though the fact that he used the past tense "needed" suggests that he may be
  8. We'll always have that inning in Cincinnati Shane
  9. They've done an OK job of getting the 3 main guys rest over the last 2 weeks and change. Leiter - 6 appearances in the last 15 days, 4.2 total IP Alzolay - 6 appearances in the last 16 days, 5.2 total IP Merryweather - 6 appearances in the last 16 days, 6.2 total IP I think that's pretty solid? That said, prior to that period, they were used pretty heavily the prior month or so, which is probably still taking a toll on them.
  10. I lived at Byron and Ashland for 2 years post college and so many nights ended up at Diner Grill for a Slinger 🤤
  11. Rockies managed to hold onto that 3-2 lead for the rest of the game and beat the DBacks. So the Cubs playoff cushion is 3.5 games and their cushion over WC3 is 3 games (does suck a little that the Cubs have lost the tiebreaker with both of those teams). With the Phillies loss the Cubs also pull to within 1.5 games of WC1. the Reds result sucked especially considering the Reds easy schedule after this series. Brewers win sucked obviously. Marlins beating the Dodgers sucked but it ended up being an alright night. As for Arizona, would be nice to enter that series at least 4 games up. We won’t get swept but if they did somehow lose all 4 they can only tie us. Winning 3 of 4 only gets them to within 2 games.
  12. I have not looked at or thought about the matchups but just spitballing… C - Amaya 1B - Wisdom 2B - Morel SS - Swanson (doesn’t take days off) 3B - Madrigal LF - Canario CF - Tauchman RF - Suzuki DH - Bellinger
  13. No one asked Ross about Alzolay’s status which kind of surprises me. It might not be a big deal but he’s clearly altering his bullpen usage to avoid using him, you’d think that’s something reporters might ask about. 4 straight days off now and 5 of last 6
  14. Plus the tiebreaker that they clinched tonight. Can’t see the giants playing 7 games better than us over a 20 game span
  15. Not to dwell on last weekend but the Cubs have now had the lead in the 9th inning in their last 8 games
  16. Rockies lead the DBacks 3-2. If the Rockies win, the Cubs playoff cushion will be 3.5 games. If the DBacks win, it stays at 3 padres up 3-0 over philly
  17. Girardi broke his curse. Previously the 2 series he did color for in the 2nd half were the 2 series the Cubs have lost since the break
  18. What do you do when all the teams you are competing against win? Go out and win the horsefeathers game
  19. Tomorrow should be interesting. Merryweather looks like he’s throwing enough pitches to be down tomorrow, Leiter looks very shaky and Alzolay might be dead either way, Cubs win!
  20. Seems like his velo is down tonight and throwing a lot of offspeed pitches
  21. 15 pitches and hasn’t gotten an out yet. Come on
  22. Don’t care if his arm isn’t attached get Adbert up!
