  1. According to the 2005 American Community Survey, Chicago has 128,650 people of Asian Decent. I cannot find a breakdown of Asian Ethnicities in Chicago, but I would imagine a large large majority of those 128k are Chinese, Korean and Filipino. Census 2000 shows that there are approximately 7,411 Japanese Americans living in Chicago, and 17,398 in Cook County. San Diego on the other hand has 190,893 people of Asian Decent in its city. According to a 2005 poll, San Diego COUNTY (population of about 2.9 million, roughly the size of Chicago give or take 150,000) has around 20,534 Japanese Americans living in their county. I guess thats a pretty sizable difference, as a much smaller metro (2.9 mil vs. about 9 million) has 3,000 more Japanese people in it. But of course comparing the 2 metros doesn't take into account that LA is about 1.5-2 hours north of SD and has a pretty big Japanese population.
  2. Sweet, I always wanted to learn how to be more gritty!
  3. Our last big fire was in 1871. Oooo...too soon?
  4. The folks at Gas Lamp Ball certainly aren't big fans of the Cubs interest in Fukudome right now. Look at some of their quotes:
  5. $15m per year for a guy who might wind up being nearly as good as Hideki Matsui someday, making considering more than Hideki makes right now. That would be some commitment. I'm out. Let's find a cheaper option that can put up a respectable OBP for a fraction of the cost. This is what happens when Hendry is so public about his interest.
  6. Who is the right person on the O's? Probably the player who plays our position of need (SS)
  7. Sweet we arent getting Fukudome and the Bears blow. I hate Chicago stupid sports.
  8. I gotta question that I know no one will be able to answer with anything other than "It's Jim Hendry..." but with SS being a more obvious area of concern, and Tejada probably being a better overall player than Roberts, why are we going after Roberts and not Tejada...
  9. I don't know about that. Not a ton of people here have been to France, but I'm sure most people would recognize the social and climate difference between Paris and Nice
  10. I'm going to cry if Fukudome just wanted to goto the West Coast all along.
  11. All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy. Its cautiously optimistic news. I didn't really expect a deal to get done today, but its good to see that there is something to this rumor and its no where near dead.
  12. Whats going to happen between the OFs and Nick Johnson/Dmitri Young? They could make a decent package trading Young, Kearns, Langerhans.
  13. That could eliminate them from Fukudome..
  14. Similar Batters 1. Marcus Giles (939) 2. Fred Carroll (932) 3. Adam Kennedy (929) 4. Harry Danning (928) 5. Bill Knickerbocker (924) 6. Solly Hemus (921) 7. Jack Wilson (919) 8. Jocko Milligan (919) 9. Bump Wills (918) 10. Damaso Garcia (918) Daunting list of middle relievers with a couple good years scattered among a bunch of bad ones. Not that I'm against the move, but its funny to see. Man I wish my last name was Knickerbocker.
  15. It was rumored that the Padres make that trade offer to the Cubs back in May of last season and the Cubs quickly rejected it. And I think in early November some writer speculated that those talks could heat up again, but nothing has been heard since.
  16. There are no Josh Hamilton/Joakim Soria's in this draft that we know of are there? I guess no one would predict Soria would have the impact that he did last year when he was picked.
  17. Good, I am glad the people who thought Kenny was a genius for assembling the 2005 championship team are coming to their senses. While no one can take their title away, lets be honest, their team was a pretty big fluke that year. That said, Kenny isn't the worst GM in baseball. He had many many nice moves, as recently as last week with Quinten. But overall he giving his team a Cubs philosophy (there is no such thing as rebuilding), which is only hurting his team in the short and long term.
  18. Thank you So Taguchi-Tony LaRussa relationship for producing one of the most awkward quotes of all time:
  19. Yeah, I think Hill easily has more value than Roberts, especially considering age and salary. Disagree, I think Hill showed this year that he has 3rd starter stuff. Plus he's 28 and Roberts is 30
  20. I actually like the Orioles (I used to live near Towson, MD awhile back and when I was about 8-10 years old, I liked the O's as much as the Cubs). That said, I still hope the Cubs fleece the O's somehow.
  21. Someone mentioned how we need to shed payroll if we got Roberts and Fukudome. Anyone think that we lost Fukudome so Hendry has money to spend now and can acquire a 2B making 6.3 million? By the way: I predict this thread will go at LEAST 132 pages before we get some sort of resolution one way or another....
  22. OMC doesn't like joke entries, therefore a Neifi Perez entry would be nullified.
  23. I heard that as well. Pretty comical conversations taking place with WS fans. Someone from the Sun Times FINALLY came on and said the WS had 0 chance to come close to the offer from Detriot and even went on to say that they couldn't match the next best offer from the Angels. And they should be thanking their lucky stars that KW didn't get Hunter for the 15 million/per that was reportedly offered by the White Sox. Talk about Soriano's contract looking bad the last few years, Hunter's would have looked worse! Instead, they're all upset that Hunter was suppose to be delivered w/ Christmas wrapping! Classic! They did win the World Series in our lifetimes. Did they? I'm 24 and I seem to remember only these teams being World Champions Orioles, Tigers, Royals, Mets, Twins, Dodgers, A's, Reds, Twins, Blue Jays, Blue Jays, Strike, Braves, Yankees, Marlins, Yankees, Yankees, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Angels, Cancelled due to disinterest, Red Sox, Cancelled due to disinterest, disinterest, Red Sox.
