  1. Haha, you live 3 blocks from the Hilton, why would you want to rent the hotel room even if you had the money?
  2. Looks like its a 1 year deal. Probably for like 4 million a year, 6 at the most? Would everyone take Lieber over Marquis? Ok then why did Marquis get 3/24?
  3. Anyone think the Cubs are delaying the announcement of the Roberts trade to give Lieber's signing its day in the sun?
  4. Hopefully this one works out better than Greg Maddux's homecoming
  5. Just interested in hearing people's opinions. I didn't put in Blackhawks because A) I believe that would be the trendy pick and B) I wouldn't be nearly as excited if they won it than if the other 3 did (I would still be excited, but it wouldn't melt my heart like the big 3 would) So: Cubs: Last Years Record: 85-77 GM: Jim Hendry Current Record: N/A Last Championship: 1908 Last Championship Appearance: 1945 Core: Derrek Lee, Carlos Zambrano, Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano Bears: Last Years Record: 7-9 GM: Jerry Angelo Current Record: N/A Last Championship: 1985 Last Championship Appearance: 2006 Core: Brian Urlacher, Charles Tillman, Tommie Harris, Nathan Vasher, Olin Kreutz, Devin Hester Bulls: Last Years Record: 49-33 GM: John Paxson Current Record: 14-22 Last Championship: 1998 Last Championship Appearance: 1998 "Core": Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni
  6. Yes but i makes players like Gallagher and Marshall more expendable in case the right trade comes along...
  7. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/roch/blog/ sounds to me like someone's trying to cover his behind Angelos is such a idiot. If I was were a O's fan I'd hang myself already. The Orioles fans made a good point. Everyone thought (just like GMs in the past like Gillick) that getting MacPhail meant that Angelos would give him the keys and stop meddling in the affairs. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. MacPhail wanted to be the GM because he has aspirations to be the Commish some day, and in order to do so, he has to remain at a visible baseball job until Selig steps down. No doubt MacPhail's resignation from the Cubs was at the very least a mutual parting of ways, and likely a push out job by the Cubs. Angelos knows that MacPhail won't step on any toes as a GM. Not to say MacPhail doesn't want to do his job well, or make the Orioles better, but he's not going to put up a huge stink if Angelos blocks a deal or two. Exactly what Angelos wants.
  8. The Cubs return the same pitchers who gave them the 2nd best staff in the N.L. last year. I think 4th is very fair even with the regression of some of the pitchers, especially if Zambrano steps up like the magazine thinks he will and becomes a top half #1 again. The only huge concern is the 5 spot. Z is a 1 or 2, Lilly is a 2 or 3, Hill is most likely a 2, Marquis is a 3 or 4 (he's been a 3 or better 3 of the last 4 years), and the last starter is a question mark. The Cubs ranking could vary wildly depending on who that last starter is (and which Marquis shows up, the one from 04/05/07, or the one from 03/06), but it is very likely that the staff will be above average once again. But its not the same pitchers because Marshall and his 3.92 ERA is seemingly being benched for Dempster. I just think the Giants and possibly Dodgers rotations are better.
  9. The OH guys are speculating that Angelos rejected the trade, the insiders are all but confirming it. They are suggesting that only a sure fire superstar will be enough for Angelos to sign off on a Roberts trade. They assume that he won't be traded now until July. Whats 6 more months guys?
  10. My sources say that this thread won't last 120 pages
  11. An update! But not a good one... http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/roch/blog/
  12. If the Cubs have the 4th best staff in the NL, then the NL really blows. That said I think the Giants should be ahead of the Cubs too. Possibly the Dodgers.
  13. And ARod. Him and Boras have been speaking for months.
  14. Sounds like one of our own: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=46287
  15. Zambrano, Pie, Gallagher, another minor leaguer for Bedard, Buchholz and Roberts? Nah
  16. Well Peter Angelos is currently on Capitol Hill at the MLB Steroids thing, so I don't think any trades would occur today.
  17. You could also pose those same 2 options with the question changed to "Which would be more excruciating?"
  18. Consolidate three crappy pitchers into one terrible one? I don't see a single reason why we'd do this Hoops. Maybe you can elaborate. I hate Marquis as much as the next guy, but I think he will provide more use to the Cubs than Padilla would. Same with Dempster.
  19. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/3/3f/NewYorkGiants_1000.png http://sandiegobloggers.com/blog-directory/logo/53.gif I know it won't happen but please dear God make it so. If the White Sox, Cardinals and Packers win it all in 3 consecutive years, I might seriously do something bad. Those are the 3 teams I hate more than all others
  20. BRob saga. Day 46. Finality no where near in site. Board members have begun to tear out their hair out of pure insanity. The thought of the Cubs without Brian Roberts on this team causes members to feel sick. However, a new trend is emerging. The thought of the Cubs with Brian Roberts on the team is causing the same reaction. Conclusion needs to occur soon, else I fear the entire board will spontaneously combust. God help us all.
  21. Nope. I would say something like Pie, Colvin, Gallagher, Marshall, Murton, Cedeno for Bedard, Roberts and Payton We would take Payton because we'd need an extra OF with Pie and Murton gone. Ideally Hendry would search for another option to start the third OF spot eventually.
  22. http://hirejimessian.com/index.php/2008/01/14/hjes-first-scoop/ I hope Baltimore burns to the ground... I honestly think with the way that Desipio and HJE are linked, plus Desipios hatred for NSBB, this is all a clever ploy to cause this board to explode for no reason.
  23. Funny how the votes are 50/50, but almost all the comments are geared towards Boston fans.
  24. I wouldn't hold my breath. Just because it was close in December doesn't mean it is now.
  25. When the inevitable Packers/Patriots Super Bowl occurs, I am not watching TV for 2 weeks. The one time I root for the Cowboys and they lose. I hate my life as it pertains to sports.
