  1. I wonder why it is that the Cubs can't sellout every ticket every day. It's not because of lack of interest thats for sure. Is it because: -People assume that the game is sold out and don't try? -The Cubs ticket release policies (day of game ticket sales, etc) -Something else It's weird when the team is having the best season of a lifetime and we got less than 40k last night. I know its not because we're bad fans.
  2. Mel Rojas is where I draw the line
  3. I have to get excited about the Bears. I dropped a $20 on them beating the Colts in a suicide pool. A lot of Bears players have a lot to prove. Hope Clark and Olson are ready to catch a lot of quick, short passes. I know. It's a crazy pick. But, I won an NCAA pool and am still way ahead in winnings. Not to mention the fact that I'm about to win two more bets. Mike Cameron only needs to hit one more home run and Tampa needs to stay ahead of Toronto in the NL East for the other bet. These are bets I made in the preseason. Realistically, I see the Bears at 8-8. The offense will be quite frustrating, but between defense and special teams, there are enough possession guys on offense to score enough points to be a .500 team this year. Wait you picked the Bears to beat the Colts in your suicide pool?? The Bears going into Indy, in their first game in their new stadium, and beating the Colts? I know Peyton might not be 100% and I know everyone has been dogging the Bears, but you must be crazy!
  4. http://www.fangraphs.com/tgraphs/20080902_Astros_Cubs_0.png Wow, looks like the Cubs were around or above a 70% probability of winning the game five separate times yesterday, only to go back to 50% or below all 5 times
  5. How did Lee look silly tonight? He was 2-5 with a walk and the double play was just bad luck. He hammered that ball. He should have been trying to get it in the air, but still, it's not like he reached out and guided it weakly to the shortstop like he usually does. Oh, and they scored 4 runs after Zambrano left the game. The thing is that Lee has been hitting ground balls at people for a long time already. His inability to drive the ball on a consistent basis is a reason for his movement out of the 3 hole. That spot in the lineup, as shown yesterday is one where you are expected to drive the ball or hit it in the air at times and with his inability to do so anymore, Lee should not be moved somewhere else in the lineup. He simply is not the run producer that he once was. Derosa and Soto have driven in more runs from spots in the lineup that are less conducive to collecting RBI. Part of the reason for Aramis' tear this year has been Lee missing out on RBI as well. Agree. And that was not a good pitch that he swung at. There was a struggling pitcher on the mound and the count was 2-1, IIRC. The pitch was way inside. He should be looking for a pitch he can put in the air to bring in the go ahead run. Terrible at bat and this is happening way too often with DLee this season. I don't want him benched, just moved down in the order. If I recall correctly, Fontenot walked on 4 pitches and Lee actually had a 1-0 count when he grounded into the double play. That at bat was almost as frustrating as watching Bob Howry suck. The pitcher had thrown 9 of his last 10 pitches for balls, and the one strike was a borderline call on a 3-0 count to Soriano
  6. My response didn't go through. Anyway, Comcast had a brief story about Tommie's knee bothering him all preseason and rumors that he'd be on the injury report today and potentially out of Sunday. Yeah I just read up on it. That sucks. What is everyone's best case scenario, everything goes right optimistic prediction about this season? I think it everything goes right within reason the Bears finish 8-8 or 9-7. Realistically, I'm thinking 5-11.
  7. If you can still get them, give them to me haha. My girlfriend's best friend (who lives in Indy) has box seats to the game. That stadium looks absolutely incredible, so I would have gone in a heartbeat.
  8. Looking for good captions: http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-09/42064562.jpg Howry: Hey Lou, is that foam coming out of your mouth?
  9. IBL - (Indy vs. Bears = Loss)
  10. Tommie Harris is hurt?? Shows you how disinterested I've been about the Bears. Can that man ever be healthy?
  11. Above you will find one of the greatest rants ever.
  12. It's a 4 game losing streak. Not the end of the world. The fact that we have 7 more home games and 16 road games, all but 3 against teams over .500 worries me a bit though (for the division not the WC)
  13. Z will be fine by Oct 1st. I think we can clinch at least the Wild Card without him pitching until the playoffs.
  14. Apologies if someone has posted this already but.... last nights loss clinched a losing homestand for the first time since April (April 29-May 1 vs. Milwaukee) and our first multi-series homestand ALL YEAR. Also, as we all know this is our first series loss altogether since losing 2/3 at Houston just after the All Star break, That said, its going to take more then 4 games to erase the confidence that 135 games built. Snap out of this slump and get Z healthy by October 1.
  15. Meh, every teams fans say stuff like that. It's selective memory. No one thinks much when you tee off on some scrub you never heard of, but everyone gets pissed off when the next scrub you face locks you down. i think over the past season, Cubs fans have complained that: -The Cubs can't hit young pitchers -The Cubs can't hit established veterans -The Cubs can't hit power pitchers -The Cubs can't hit finesse pitchers -The Cubs can't hit soft tossing lefties -The Cubs can't hit hard throwing lefties. etc etc etc And yet somehow we've outscored the entire NL. I'm not sure which genre of pitcher we seem to hit so well but I digress.
  16. One of these days Valverde will blow a save against us. And when he does, its going to be awesome
  17. Kosuke hits for the cycle. Top that. Ronny Cedeno goes 5-5 with 5 grand slams, closes the game pitching 3 perfect innings, shakes his fist in the general direction of Milwaukee, causing the Brewers to lose, and later declares himself the King of the World, a nomination the United Nations quickly approves.
  18. Random bold predictions (i'm 0 for my life in these types of predictions). Derrek Lee will homer tonight.
  19. Good thing its a night game then. They should be nice and full by 7:05
  20. SOB, I have erred the entire Cubs fanbase.
  21. I...err Kerry...got another question answered in an ESPN chat:
  22. I have no problem with Theriot number 2, but I'm speculating if there are lineup changes, where would Lee fit. I think Lee would fit well as a 2 hitter at this point, with a crapload of singles, a solid number of walks, and a decent number of doubles and the occasional HR. Plus unless he's in a slump and K'ing a lot, he usually has some solid ABs.
