  1. Didn't Arizona do a decent job of selling baseball to an area full of retired Cubs/everyone else fans? I get that Phoenix is a bigger metro area, and perhaps has more lifelong residents than retirees (though there are a ton of old folk), but still. It's all in the execution, and it's obviously been botched in south Florida. Phoenix was smart enough to have a brand new stadium on the first day of the team's existence, which drew initial interest That and the stadium was retractable for those 120 degree summer days, and they placed the park in a centrally located spot right in downtown Phoenix. Even with all that, Arizona has had their attendance problems. If the made the DBacks play at an outdoor park in Gilbert, they would probably be in the same boat as the Marlins.
  2. And winner of the "taking it too far award goes to..." :) You suck at quotation marks You suck at not offending AIDS patients

  4. Wasn't a new stadium promised from the start? I don't know, the MLB probably just looked at the size of the market and determined that they had to have a team there.
  5. OK, these probably aren't funny anymore
  6. Reeling? LOL, the team has lost 5 games in a row for the first time all year, yet they still have a 4.5 games lead because the brewers have also been swept, but they are reeling. Whatever. If the Cubs only go .500 this month, the Phillies can't lose 3 games! They are going to the playoffs people. Hell, the Cubs are off tonight and the onous is on the Brewers and Phillies to win because the magic number reduces if they don't. These writers tick me off. lol, what? I don't think that was real.
  7. The same could be said about just about any "work" that involves using a computer. It takes complete focus & attention, some effort, and knowing what you're doing. It's not exactly easy. What? Complete focus & attention? No. Effort? No. Not easy? No. If you have like 200 tabs open, you have to pay extremely close attention to make sure you catch the one that "makes" it in. I can't sit there and watch TV while I'm doing it. It's also a pain in the ass and there are plenty of people who wouldn't bother making that much of an effort or dedicating that much time to it. To do it, you HAVE to dedicate that block of time to it because you really can't do anything else. Once you actually do get in, it's a race against the clock to make the purchase and get it through before you lose that window, which is a pain in itself. Wow you made purchasing tickets through a VWR seem really exciting. But you're right. Especially with playoff tickets that maybe sell out within 15 minutes, you have to be on top of your game.
  8. This might be the first unanimous poll in NSBB history (waits for some jerk to choose no to be cool)
  9. SI.com's headline: "Bad News Cubs: Zambrano has shoulder injury" Then the sub-headline: "MRI confirms rotator cuff problems for Cubs' Zambrano" Are you kidding me?? I am going to write an article and give it to SI.com titled "Bad news fans of baseball: all your pitchers have shoulder injuries" with the subheadline "Because that's what tendinitis is you morons"
  10. When you set up scenarios that all end with you being the Ultimate Cubs Fan Who Deserves Tickets, you reap what you sow. Show me exactly where I said that? Ah nevermind I'm not getting into this argument
  11. Please. give. updates. Bruce: "Every pitcher in Baseball has this, it's normal this time of the year". O:) That's great, but why is he sucking lately, why did he ask to be taken out of the game, and will 10 days of rest do anything to make him good Z again?
  12. Fixed for typical ESPN journalism
  13. So if we could get proof that there were 45k+ Cubs fans who were better fans than you, you'd willingly give up your seat if you had one? Call the dogs off man, the true fan discussion dead. Dead. Over. No need to follow me around and create more ridiculous scenarios in your mind based off my most recent unrelated post.
  14. A "fair" compromise would be to still use the VWR, but limit it to 1 game/2 tickets. People who really want to get tickets will at least get to see 1 game and more different people will be able to go. At least then you still have some control of your destiny. I don't need to get 20 tickets to every game, but I'd like to have a fighting chance to go to at least one, and with the lottery, no matter what I do, I really don't. Beautiful. I don't want to get tickets to sell them, and I don't have to goto multiple games (although I surely would under the old setup. I had tickets to Games 3 and 4 as well as games 3 4 and 5 of the NLCS). I just want the opportunity to goto the game and not have to be weeded out by a some Elk Grove Sarah Palin clone
  15. Well people work for other reasons than disposable income. But you're talking about taking a day off and that real fans should take a day off... So only real fans who have extra vacation or sick days should be able to go to the playoffs? Well the Cubs have been good since April...if you wanted playoff tickets you shouldn't have taken that 2 week vacation to Hawaii!
  16. I want him to have 2 starts before the playoffs if at all possible. Also, this is a GREAT excuse to have him pitch 3rd in our playoff rotation after Harden and Dempster, if people still want that. Z can return on 9/23 against the Mets (a 21 day break between starts) and pitch again in the season finale in Milwaukee. He would then have 5 days between that game and game 3 of the NLDS. 9/28 - Z pitches at MIL 9/29 - Off 9/30 - Game 1 10/1 - Game 2 10/2 - Off 10/3 - Z pitches in game 3
  17. Simmons might be the first person in the media to not immediately decry the Bears' QB situation or their lack of attempts to fix it.

  19. But that doesn't matter to the Cubs because they set their ticket prices and are going to sell out regardless. They explained their decision as a way to be "fair" to fans and if you define fans as anyone who is willing to go to a game at Wrigley then sure its fair. But it ain't fair to those of us that bleed the Cubs. Buy season tickets. I will when I'm offered the opportunity to purchase them

But it ain't fair to those of us that bleed the Cubs. If you really bled the Cubs, you'd have season tickets and it wouldn't be a problem. Have you seen the season ticket waiting list? I have, because I'm on it.

  22. From Will Carrol. Not sure if it was posted He seems pessimistic, but also gave him the time table of 10 days (isn't that what DXL means)
  23. I'm still not honestly worried that this is any worse than what he had before. Last time he missed 2 weeks and came back and dominated for a month.
