  1. I think even at the time we were pointing out how its silly to put too much weight into 2020 performances because there were a lot of odd stat lines from normally good players. The previous year he had an .871 OPS, and .824 or something in 2018. If the decision to non-tender him based on a 60 game 2020 season, I think that's foolish. Almost certainly there was more to it than that, but it likely largely had to do with Poor Tom Ricketts, his impending FA and the inability to get much in terms of a trade
  2. Fair but given the vast disparity in talent level that you see in college, i would kind of guess that QB that people are seeing as a no doubt first overall prospect (not going to use the g word lest we start that discussion again) would be able to transcend the abilities of a great college defense. I could be very wrong though. Would be interesting to see a comparison of him vs some of the higher regarded college qb prospects in recent years.
  3. I dont know how fans can make that comparison with a straight face. Even if Bagent had Brock Purdy potential, Purdy went to probably the team most equipped to have a random 7th round rookie jump in and have immediate success while Bagent is in one of the worst places to see that happen. Purdy has Deebo, Aiyuk, Christian freaking McCaffrey, a strong defense and an offensive mastermind head coach. Bagent has Moore, several other replacement level “weapons” and a big goof of a defensive head coach
  4. Nick Castellanos? That was the offseason before Schwarber was non tendered
  5. Damn, I knew it wasn’t great but that’s low
  6. He would have wore his Michigan ring too but its only a half ring so it keeps falling off.
  7. Pretty much just this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asjYttU9QPg&pp=ygUYYmVhcnMgZWFnbGVzIDIwMDcgZ3JpZXNl
  8. Oregon at Utah will be good, though would have been better if Oregon didn't choke away the Washington game. But yeah pretty bad overall plus Michigan bye week. I guess I can do something else on Saturday lol
  9. You did just win at Maryland 9 days ago, that was pretty good Edit: Wish I read the entire thread before posting, especially with no delete button these days lol
  10. Definitely nostalgic for Schwarber, but I highly doubt he would still be a Cub if we didn't non-tender him though. He would have played out 2021 and gotten traded with the rest of the guys at the deadline. It does suck though...they had Schwarber on the Score on Friday evening and while he still talked positively about his time in Chicago, its clear that he feels like he found a home with Philly and like the rest of their big bats have fallen in love with the fanbase and the atmosphere at CBP during playoff games. I wonder if Schwarber is an example of a WAR breaker. Is that even a thing that can happen? His value is always going to be limited to his lack of defensive value, but even with the terrible BA and extremely high strikeout rate it seems like his stat line should a better player than a 0.7 bWAR guy. Or maybe cumulatively his value is 0.7 wins but his massive power and ability to draw walks will fit more on a team with good hitting up and down the order. Comparing to 2023 Cubs, bWAR has his value at a midpoint between Miles Mastrobuoni and Mark Leiter Jr.
  11. He's had a pretty big rise the last month or so. Not to say that he couldn't be the 8th best QB, there's a lot of great QBs out there this year and also QB scouting is fickle midseason unless you are a no doubt top 1-2 QB. Plus I have obvious bias and not exactly a great history of rooting for great QBs so what I could be seeing as elite is really just very good. I've been very impressed with what I've seen the last few weeks though (again albeit against not great competition). I see mocks having him as high as top 5, as low as mid-2nd round. I appreciate the link, that's a pretty good outline of strengths and weaknesses though I think he's overcome some of those this year. Looks like it was updated 3 weeks ago so fairly recent. Here are a few mocks from the last week or so 5th overall (NYG): https://thedraftnetwork.com/nfl-mock-draft-2024-october-parson/ 20th overall (TB): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-chargers-give-justin-herbert-another-weapon-jets-add-protection-for-aaron-rodgers/ 17th overall (NYJ): https://nflmocks.com/posts/2024-nfl-mock-draft-one-exciting-first-round-selection-each-afc-east-team-bills-patriots-dolphins-jets-01hd7m944zpn/2 34th overall (NO): https://www.si.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-2-round-week-7-caleb-williams-drake-maye-shedeur-sanders
  12. 1st. Top 15. He’s going top 5 in some mock drafts I’ve seen today
  13. For those that are watching a lot of college QB tape, I'm kind of curious to see what you think of JJ McCarthy? I am trying to fight through my bias, but I just don't see a ton of flaws in his game at all. Strengths: NFL arm and accuracy, is repeatedly putting balls into tight windows and leading his WRs for YAC. Elusive and avoids sacks, he's not Lamar Jackson but running is absolutely a strong part of his game. Strong leadership, poise, quiet but visible confidence that radiates to his teammates. Handles pressure well, can step up in the pocket or scramble out of the pocket and complete long passes on broken plays Weaknesses: Has NFL height (6'3'') but his frame is slender which leads to concerns about injury. Has played behind an elite O-Line his entire career so while I have repeatedly seen him step up in the pocket, stay poised under pressure, etc, I haven't seen him have a game where he's getting rushed on most plays and don't know how composed he stays when that happens. Can occasionally go on runs of inaccuracy (like the Bowling Green game) but seems to be few and far between these days. Also occasionally makes wrong decisions on RPOs leading to losses. Rankings amongst all FBS QBs: -1st in QBR -1st in PFF grade -2nd in completion percentage -2nd in NFL QB rating -2nd in YPA Also one more cool stat: on 3rd downs this year he has 1 incompletion this year which was a drop by the WR. Every other 3rd down throw this year has been a 1st down and/or a TD. As most know, Michigan's schedule has been pretty terrible this year so fairly have to look at those stats with that in mind. This year Michigan's running game has not been as strong in years past, so it will be interesting to see how he does vs. PSU and OSU this year when he'll be relied on to win the games much more than he had to in last year's games (at least for PSU, he absolutely had to pass to beat OSU)
  14. 1.5 games out. TB is 3-3 vs 2-5 for Bears plus we lose the tiebreaker to them But yeah kind of crazy to think that if they didn’t blow a 21 point lead to Denver they’d be 0.5 games out of a playoff spot
  15. Bagent pulls to within 5 wins of Fields for career wins a a starter lol
  16. It’s amazing how not having your entire secondary out with injury helps
  17. NE is about to to be 1-6, they had Jimmy G at QB who while not good is miles better than Hoyer, and the game was in LV. Still a pretty depressing team.
  18. It’s only because they’re up so much. I mean it was conservative before but now it’s just running down the clock. Not defending it, it’s just the kind of coach we have. Just like when we were driving and didn’t use our TOs because we didn’t want to give them another possession
  19. The only time Kmet is mentioned today are during his 2 false start penalties
  20. Well at least the panthers can’t win this week lol
  21. For all the talk of spreading the ball, 8 players have targets for the Bears today, none of them are Cole Kmet
  22. lol what’s Jaylon Johnson doing?
  23. I still don’t think he’s more than a backup but at no point has he looked overwhelmed or out of sync which I expected in his first start. He’s definitely an NFL QB of some sort.
  24. Should Foreman have been playing all year or is the blocking just better/competition worse?
  25. Bagent is exactly what I expected, competent backup QB. He doesn’t make a ton of mistakes. We don’t know he can move it down the field yet but i assume there’s a reason why they aren’t asking him to do that.
